Gastrointestinal parasites, and egg and oocyst output in the faeces of captive white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus yucatanensis) were recorded in Yucatan, Mexico. Feces were obtained from from January through December 1995 (ten samples every two weeks per place). Samples were processed by flotation and the McMaster techniques. Faecal cultures for L3 larvae were made by the Corticelli-Lai technique. Oocysts in faeces were cultured in 2% potassium dicromate. Seven genera were determined (Haemonchus spp., Cooperia spp, Isospora spp., Eimeria spp., Trichuris spp., Strongyloides spp. and Moniezia spp.) which represent five orders. The most frequent genera were Haemonchus, Isospora and Eimeria. The genus Isospora is reported for the first time in deer of this region, although it was not possible to explain the source of this parasite. The frequency and level of faecal egg and oocyst outputs were variable during the year and increased during the rainy season. There was a positive correlation between relative humidity, environmental temperature and rainfall with the coccidia and strongylida orders. In the central zone of Yucatan the meteorological conditions during the rainy season are favourable for the development of gastrointestinal parasitism which enable an increased risk of infection for deer.  相似文献

A parsimony analysis was performed on restriction sites at the Hba-ps4 pseudogene locus within one of four inversions associated with mouse t haplotypes. The results suggest that all t haplotypes form a monophyletic group and that the in (17)4 inversion originated before the radiation of the Mus musculus species complex but after the divergence of the lineages leading to M. spretus, M. abbotti, and M. hortulanus. A time frame based on the evolutionary rate of mouse pseudogenes places the origin of this t haplotype inversion at 1.5 Mya, or approximately 1.5 Myr after the origin of the more proximal t complex inversion, in (17)2. The accumulated evidence indicates that complete t haplotypes have been assembled in a stepwise manner, with each of these inversions occurring on separate chromosomal lineages and at different evolutionary times. In addition, the evolutionary relationships of pseudogene sequences resulting from genetic exchange between wild-type and t haplotype alleles were examined. Analysis of sequences from the 5' and 3' sides of a putative site of recombination resulted in cladograms with different topologies. The implications for hypotheses concerning the evolutionary forces acting on t haplotypes and their rapid propagation throughout worldwide populations of mice are discussed.   相似文献

Cholesterol and phosphoinositides (PI) are two critically important lipids that are found in cellular membranes and dysregulated in many disorders. Therefore, uncovering molecular pathways connecting these essential lipids may offer new therapeutic insights. We report that loss of function of lysosomal Niemann‐Pick Type C1 (NPC1) cholesterol transporter, which leads to neurodegenerative NPC disease, initiates a signaling cascade that alters the cholesterol/phosphatidylinositol 4‐phosphate (PtdIns4P) countertransport cycle between Golgi‐endoplasmic reticulum (ER), as well as lysosome‐ER membrane contact sites (MCS). Central to these disruptions is increased recruitment of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases—PI4KIIα and PI4KIIIβ—which boosts PtdIns4P metabolism at Golgi and lysosomal membranes. Aberrantly increased PtdIns4P levels elevate constitutive anterograde secretion from the Golgi complex, and mTORC1 recruitment to lysosomes. NPC1 disease mutations phenocopy the transporter loss of function and can be rescued by inhibition or knockdown of either key phosphoinositide enzymes or their recruiting partners. In summary, we show that the lysosomal NPC1 cholesterol transporter tunes the molecular content of Golgi and lysosome MCS to regulate intracellular trafficking and growth signaling in health and disease.  相似文献

In this study we investigated the saprophyte growth of two arbuscular–mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus mosseae isolate) under increasing Cd or Zn levels and the influence of a selected bacterial strain of Brevibacillus brevis. Microorganisms here assayed were isolated from Cd or Zn polluted soils. B. brevis increased the presymbiotic growth (germination rate growth and mycelial development) of Glomus mosseae. Spore germination and mycelial development of both G. mosseae isolate were reduced as much as the amount of Cd or Zn increased in the growth medium. In medium supplemented with 20 μg Cd mL−1, the spore germination was only 12% after 20 days of incubation, but the coinoculation with B. brevis increased this value to 40% after only 15 days. The addition of 20 μg Cd mL−1 to the growth medium drastically inhibited hyphal development, but the presence of the bacterium increased hyphal growth of G. mosseae from 195% (without Cd) until 254% (with 20 μg Cd mL−1). The corresponding bacterial effect increasing micelial growth ranged from 125% (without Zn) to 232% (200 μg Zn mL−1) in the case of G. mosseae isolated from Zn-polluted soil. Mycelial growth under 5 μg Cd mL−1 (without bacterium) was similarly reduced from that produced at 15 μg Cd mL−1 in the presence of the bacteria. As well, 50 μg Zn mL−1 (without bacterium) reduced hyphal growth as much as 200 μg Zn mL−1 did in the presence of B. brevis. The bacterial effect on the saprophytic growth of G. mosseae in absence of metal may be due to the involvement of indole acetic acid (IAA) produced by these bacteria. The Cd bioaccumulation ability exhibited (76%) by Cd-adapted B. brevis reduced the Cd damage on G. mosseae in Cd-contaminated medium. These capabilities of B. brevis isolates partially alleviate the inhibitory effects of Cd or Zn on the axenic growth of G. mosseae.  相似文献

Background

Current standardized treatments for cognitive impairment in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder remain limited and their efficacy restricted. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a promising tool for enhancing cognitive performance in several neuropsychiatric disorders. Nevertheless, the effects of tDCS in reducing cognitive impairment in patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have not yet been investigated.

Methods

A parallel, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial was conducted to examine the efficacy of tDCS on the modulation of inhibitory control in adults with ADHD. Thirty patients were randomly allocated to each group and performed a go/no-go task before and after a single session of either anodal stimulation (1 mA) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex or sham stimulation.

Results

A nonparametric two-sample Wilcoxon rank-sum (Mann-Whitney) test revealed no significant differences between the two groups of individuals with ADHD (tDCS vs. sham) in regard to behavioral performance in the go/no go tasks. Furthermore, the effect sizes of group differences after treatment for the primary outcome measures—correct responses, impulsivity and omission errors—were small. No adverse events resulting from stimulation were reported.

Conclusion

According to these findings, there is no evidence in support of the use of anodal stimulation over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex as an approach for improving inhibitory control in ADHD patients. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first clinical study to assess the cognitive effects of tDCS in individuals with ADHD. Further research is needed to assess the clinical efficacy of tDCS in this population.

We have now sufficient evidence that using electrical biosignals in the field of Alternative and Augmented Communication is feasible. Additionally, they are particularly suitable in the case of people with severe motor impairment, e.g. people with high-level spinal cord injury or with locked-up syndrome. Developing solutions for them implies that we find ways to use sensors that fit the user's needs and limitations, which in turn impacts the specifications of the system translating the user's intentions into commands. After devising solutions for a given user or profile, the system should be evaluated with an appropriate method, allowing a comparison with other solutions. This paper submits a review of the way three bioelectrical signals - electromyographic, electrooculographic and electroencephalographic - have been utilised in alternative communication with patients suffering severe motor restrictions. It also offers a comparative study of the various methods applied to measure the performance of AAC systems.  相似文献
