BackgroundHigh prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with a higher prevalence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Inflammation is one of the important contributors to the pathogenesis and complications of coronary atherosclerotic plaque. Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF-15) and Tenascin-C (TNC) play an important role in the initiation of atherosclerotic plaque as well as its rupture. The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between serum GDF-15, TNC, and the risk of ACS among T2DM patients.MethodsAnthropometric parameters, routine biochemical investigations like liver and renal function tests, lipid profile, and Creatine Kinase-Total (CK-T), Creatine Kinase-MB (CK-MB) were measured in 42 T2DM patients with ACS and 42 T2DM patients. Serum GDF-15 and TNC were measured by Human Sandwich-ELISA kits.ResultsSerum GDF-15 and TNC levels were significantly higher in T2DM patients with ACS as compared to T2DM patients. Serum GDF-15 was significantly correlated with waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure, pulse, serum CK-T, and CK-MB. Serum TNC was significantly correlated with the pulse, serum CK-T, CK-MB, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and blood urea nitro GEN. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that waist circumference was independently positively associated with serum GDF-15.ConclusionsT2DM patients with higher serum GDF-15 and TNC levels were at higher risk of acute coronary syndrome independent of other cardiovascular risk factors. 相似文献

Physoschistura chindwinensis, a new balitorid species, is described from the Chindwin basin, Manipur, India. Biosynthesis of the prion protein at the endoplasmic reticulum generates multiple topological forms. The topology of an individual chain is determined first by the localization of the N terminus and then by potential integration of the transmembrane domain into the lipid bilayer. Here, we provide the first evidence that signal sequences affect the latter of these events by demonstrating that some but not other signal sequences and signal sequence mutations result in significant increases in the fraction of prion protein nascent chains that integrate into the lipid bilayer. Through analysis of the prolactin signal sequence, an especially poor integration effector, we find that the N terminal and hydrophobic regions of the signal sequence affect integration most significantly. Mutations in either region result in a considerable increase in the number of chains that integrate. The effect of the signal sequence cannot be attributed to timing of signal cleavage or the state of the ribosome membrane junction, parameters previously found to affect protein biogenesis. We also present evidence that signal sequences that are poor integration effectors can promote integration under experimental conditions that allow the nascent chain more time to integrate. This experiment was designed to test whether spermatozoa encapsulated in an alginate poly-L-lysine matrix had an extended fertile life in vivo after insemination. Estrus was synchronized in 417 primiparous Friesian and Jersey heifers with a system based on a CIDR-B intravaginal device before the heifers were inseminated either during proestrus (24 h after device removal) or at estrus (48 h after device removal). Pregnancy rates to first inseminations did not differ between the 24 and 48 h inseminations (61 vs 60.6%) with liquid semen diluted in Caprogen (control) but differed with encapsulated semen (45.1 vs 68.6%). The difference in pregnancy rates between the 2 types of semen was more pronounced (P < 0.08) in the animals that were visually detected in estrus. The mean survival time of spermatozoa in the female reproductive tract following insemination at the 24-h insemination time was estimated to be 50 +/- 7.5 h. The increased pregnancy rate with insemination of encapsulated spermatozoa at 48 h could have been due to this process predisposing spermatozoa to capacitate soon after insemination. 相似文献

The effects of storage time and the oxygenation state of the storage medium on motility, viability, and in vitro fertility of stored diluted sperm were investigated. Oocytes collected from abattoir material were matured and fertilized in vitro on defined days with sperm stored for up to 11 days in a citrate-based commercial diluent. The proportions of oocytes fertilized and developing to the blastocyst stage were used to assess the quality of the stored semen. In vitro fertility of sperm declined with storage time. There was no significant effect of the oxygenation state of the medium on in vitro fertility of stored sperm. Increased sperm-to-oocyte ratios resulted in a significant elevation of the proportion of oocytes fertilized on day 0 of storage and the proportion of fertilized oocytes developing to the blastocyst stage on days 0 and 3 of storage, suggesting some form of sperm competition or egg selection of sperm based on the ability of sperm to induce normal development. 相似文献

Thymine and cytosine as well as the intermediates in pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway dihydroorotic acid, orotic acid, carbamyl aspartate and 5'-uridine monophosphate and folic acid, was synergistic. 2-14C-Thymine, 6-14C-orotic acid and 14C-formate but not 2-14C-uracil, were incorporated into DNA more in the presence of aflatoxin. These findings indicated that aflatoxin inhibited the pyrimidine base synthesis which could be overcome to a great extent by the addition of thymine and folic acid to aflatoxin-treated cells. 相似文献
