The role of impairment of general oxidative and energy metabolism in pathogenesis of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and their correction by (1-adrenoblocker alfuzosin was studied. One group of patients (N = 126) was examined by standard methods for determination of the severity of LUTS by IPSS and mean effective volume of urinary bladder (MEVUB). In the second group (N = 29) in addition to functional examinations, metabolic indicators in blood were measured: antioxidant activity (AOA) and succinate dehydrogenase activity (SDA). Severity of LUTS depends greatly on the MEVUB. It was the first to show a practically complete correlation between LUTS, AOA and SDA. Severity of LUTS exactly correlates with indicators of oxidative and energy metabolism. In patients with more heavy LUTS, lowest AOA and SDA values were found. In the course of effective treatment, both phenomena developed an improvement of clinical symptoms and a rise of biochemical parameters. Close correlation between functional and metabolic phenomena is evidence of an essential role of metabolic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of LUTS with BPH. This opens perspectives to use antioxidants and energy metabolism activators for correction of UB dysfunction in patients with BPH. 相似文献

Approaches to the presentation of experimental data in databases are considered. The employment of GeneExpress in computer analysis and modeling of the organization and function of genetic systems is illustrated with examples. In the present study, singlet oxygen (1O2) scavenging activity of tocopherol and plastochromanol was examined in tocopherol cyclase‐deficient mutant (vte1) of Arabidopsis thaliana lacking both tocopherol and plastochromanol. It is demonstrated here that suppression of tocopherol and plastochromanol synthesis in chloroplasts isolated from vte1 Arabidopsis plants enhanced 1O2 formation under high light illumination as monitored by electron paramagnetic resonance spin‐trapping spectroscopy. The exposure of vte1 Arabidopsis plants to high light resulted in the formation of secondary lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde as determined by high‐pressure liquid chromatography. Furthermore, it is shown here that the imaging of ultra‐weak photon emission known to reflect oxidation of lipids was unambiguously higher in vte1 Arabidopsis plants. Our results indicate that tocopherol and plastochromanol act as efficient 1O2 scavengers and protect effectively lipids against photooxidative damage in Arabidopsis plants. 相似文献

The epidemiologically important Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing genotype strains, highly endemic in East Asia, have become an emerging infection in certain geographic areas, including Russia, because of its increasing prevalence and association with multidrug resistance (MDR). The aim was to verify whether MDR Beijing strains circulating in the emerging regions present some biological particularities that could contribute to their success in causing disease in comparison with the sporadic strains from locations with low prevalence of the Beijing genotype. We evaluated virulence-associated characteristics of the MDR Beijing strains isolated in Russia and compared them with those of the drug-resistant and susceptible Beijing strains from Brazil and reference H37Rv strain. We found that Russian MDR strains demonstrated an increased bacterial fitness and growth in THP-1 macrophage-like cells, as well as a higher capacity to induce non-protective cytokine synthesis and necrotic macrophage death. By contrast, the biological properties of the strains isolated in Brazil largely resembled those of the H37Rv strain, with the exception of the drug-resistant isolates that presented significantly reduced fitness. The data demonstrate that the emerging MDR strains of the Beijing genotype circulating in Russia do express a pattern of properties associated with the enhanced virulence favouring its clonal dissemination in this region. 相似文献

The IEEE 802.11 network technology is the emerging standard for wireless LANs and mobile networking. The fundamental access mechanism in the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol is the Distributed Coordination Function. In this paper, we present an analytical method of estimating the saturation throughput of 802.11 wireless LAN in the assumption of ideal channel conditions. The proposed method generalizes the existing 802.11 LAN models and advances them in order to take the Seizing Effect into consideration. This real-life effect consists in the following: the station that has just completed successfully its transmission has a better chance of winning in the competition and therefore of seizing the channel than other LAN stations. The saturation throughput of 802.11 wireless LANs is investigated by the developed method. The obtained numerical results are validated by simulation and lead to the change of the existing idea of the optimal access strategy in the saturation conditions. 相似文献
