Topography of bacteriophage T7 RNA polymerase using monoclonal antibodies]

Four clones producing monoclonal antibodies inhibiting enzymatic activity were used to localize the functionally important antigenic determinants of T7 RNA polymerase. All antibodies were shown to bind to C-terminal fragment of the protein (residues 589-883). The competition studies showed the specificity of the three antibodies toward one epitope and the fourth antibody to another one. By means of limited cleavage of the RNA polymerase with cyanogen bromide with subsequent electrophoretic separation and immunoblotting the peptides containing antigenic determinants were localized. These are Met861-Ala883 for antibody 4H8 and Met750-Met832 for antibodies 9B2, 3H11 and 2A2.     

TeleOphta: Machine learning and image processing methods for teleophthalmology

A complete prototype for the automatic detection of normal examinations on a teleophthalmology network for diabetic retinopathy screening is presented. The system combines pathological pattern mining methods, with specific lesion detection methods, to extract information from the images. This information, plus patient and other contextual data, is used by a classifier to compute an abnormality risk. Such a system should reduce the burden on readers on teleophthalmology networks.

Aspergillus penicilloides and Eurotium halophilicum in association with house-dust mites

Aspergillus penicilloides Speg., Eurotium halophilicum Christensen et al. and other xerophilic fungi were isolated from house dust. The isolates of E. halophilicum are described and compared with the type strain of this species. A. penicilloides appeared to be rather common. The species concept of this species is broadened to accomodate some variable forms with different colony characters and conidiophore structures. The role of both species is discussed in connection with house-dust mites, house-dust allergy and skin diseases.Supported by grant No. 230 of the Dutch Asthma Foundation.
