In commercial digested and purified horse diphtheria antitoxin, which is formed largely of the gamma globulin fragment with the sedimentation coefficient 5.3 S, the reactive disulphide bonds were destroyed by S-sulphonation. Gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 in 0.05 M formic acid with 6 M urea showed that the molecule of the S-sulphonated preparation dissociated into chains similar in character to the peptide chains of native horse antitoxins. Antibody activity was still partly maintained even after treatment with 6 M urea. On mixing the two types of chains isolated by gel filtration, antibody activity was recovered, the amount of antibody protein determined in the mixed fractions being greater than the sum of the amounts in the separate fractions. The neutralizing activity of the mixed fractions tested against toxinin vivo was also greater than the sum of the activity of the separate fractions. 相似文献

The soil algal communities of forested and reforested, limed and unlimed plots were compared in the acid rain impacted Kru sné hory Mountains. The floristic composition of unlimed plots is similar to that found in acid forest soils with a naturally low pH and no effect of the acid rain on these communities can be detected. Chlorophyceae are the only group present in these soils. In limed areas with a higher soil pH, algal diversity is significantly increased while algal densities remain similar. Chlorophyceae, while still the dominant group, are accompanied in these soils by Bacillariophyceae, Xanthophyceae, Eustigmatophyceae and Cyanophyceae. Total vegetation cover and thus light hitting the soil surface seems to be most important in determining the algal biomass. 相似文献

Eighteen children with ADD/ADHD, some of whom were also LD, ranging in ages from 5 through 15 were randomly assigned to one of two conditions. The experimental condition consisted of 40 45-minute sessions of training in enhancing beta activity and suppressing theta activity, spaced over 6 months. The control condition, waiting list group, received no EEG biofeedback. No other psychological treatment or medication was administered to any subjects. All subjects were measured at pretreatment and at posttreatment on an IQ test and parent behavior rating scales for inattention, hyperactivity, and aggressive/defiant (oppositional) behaviors. At posttreatment the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase (mean of 9 points) on the K-Bit IQ Composite as compared to the control group (p<.05). The experimental group also significantly reduced inattentive behaviors as rated by parents (p<.05). The significant improvements in intellectual functioning and attentive behaviors might be explained as a result of the attentional enhancement affected by EEG biofeedback training. Further research utilizing improved data collection and analysis, more stringent control groups, and larger sample sizes are needed to support and replicate these findings.This research was supported by an equipment grant by Autogenics Systems. Summary Post-mitotic epidermal cells of barley leaves were found to contain, in addition to cortical microtubules (CMTs), distinct arrays of endoplasmic microtubules (EMTs). These encircle nuclei and continuously merge into the CMT arrays that underly the plasmalemma. Detailed three-dimensional reconstruction of both types of MTs during fungal infection showed that profound and very rapid MT rearrangements occurred especially in the case of incompatible (resistant) barley-powdery mildew genotype combination. The most early MT responses, followed by their subsequent complete disintegration, were recorded around nuclei. These events might be relevant for the induction of such nuclear processes as onset of DNA synthesis and nuclear chromatin condensation. Observed pattern of early infection events, as well as less prominent responses in the case of compatible (susceptible) barley-powdery mildew genotype combination, both findings suggest that rapid reorganization of the MT cytoskeleton could be involved in recognition of the fungus by host cells and in the initiation of resistance responses in barley leaves. We hypothesize that the integrity and dynamics of the MT cytoskeleton, especially of its perinuclear part, might participate in control mechanisms involved in activation of resistance genes.Abbreviations CMTs

Genetically transformed alfalfa (Medicago sativa L., cv. Zajearska 83) plantlets were obtained by inoculating somatic embryos with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains A281/pGA472 and LBA4404/pBI121. Single somatic embryos, 5–7 mm long, were released from a repetitively embryogenic culture, wounded, and cocultivated with the bacteria. The agar-solidified culture medium contained mineral salts, vitamins, 40 g l–1 sucrose, 1 g l–1 yeast extract and 0.05 mg l–1 BA. Five clones, transformed with A281/pGA472, and 4 clones transformed with LBA4404/pBI121, were selected for proliferation by repetitive somatic embryogenesis, on media containing 100 mg l–1 of kanamycin. The transformation of kanamycin-resistant clones was confirmed by assaying the activity of neomycin phosphotransferase II and/or -glucuronidase enzymes, and by the Southern blot analysis. It is suggested that the transformation/regeneration system based on somatic embryogenesis may be suitable for establishing transgenic alfalfa lines. The relatively low frequency of embryo transformation is compensated for by abundant proliferation in secondary somatic embryogenesis.Abbreviations BA

We have constructed a comparative map in mouse of the critical region of human 22q11 deleted in DiGeorge (DGS) and Velocardiofacial
(VCFS) syndromes. The map includes 11 genes potentially haploinsufficient in these deletion syndromes. We have localized all
the conserved genes to mouse Chromosome (Chr) 16, bands B1-B3. The determination of gene order shows the presence of two regions
(distal and proximal), containing two groups of conserved genes. The gene order in the two regions is not completely conserved;
only in the proximal group is the gene order identical to human. In the distal group the gene order is inverted. These two
regions are separated by a DNA segment containing at least one gene which, in the human DGS region, is the most proximal of
the known deleted genes. In addition, the gene order within the distal group of genes is inverted relative to the human gene
order. Furthermore, a clathrin heavy chain-like gene was not found in the mouse genome by DNA hybridization, indicating that
there is an inconsistent level of gene conservation in the region. These and other independent data obtained in our laboratory
clearly show a complex evolutionary history of the DGS-VCFS region. Our data provide a framework for the development of a
mouse model for the 22q11 deletion with chromosome engineering technologies.

A pulse radiolytic study using the cyclic tetrameric Schiff base N-coordinated copper complex Cu(TAAB)2+ has been performed. The reaction of the Cu(TAAB)2+ complex with superoxide revealed pseudo first-order characteristics with the rate constant of k
2 = (2.9 ± 0.5) × 108 mol–1 s–1 dm3. The complex survive presence of competing serum albumin in physiological concentrations. The complex stability constant K = 1.15 × 1018 (log K = 18.06) is two orders of magnitude higher than that of Cu(II)-serum albumin (log K = 16.2).
