The eukaryotic biodiversity in historical air-dried samples of Dutch agricultural soil has been assessed by random sequencing of an 18S rRNA gene library and by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. Representatives of nearly all taxa of eukaryotic soil microbes could be identified, demonstrating that it is possible to study eukaryotic microbiota in samples from soil archives that have been stored for more than 30 years at room temperature. In a pilot study, 41 sequences were retrieved that could be assigned to fungi and a variety of aerobic and anaerobic protists such as cercozoans, ciliates, xanthophytes (stramenopiles), heteroloboseans, and amoebozoans. A PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of samples collected between 1950 and 1975 revealed significant changes in the composition of the eukaryotic microbiota. 相似文献

Longidorus aetnaeus Roca, Lamberti, Agostinelli & Vinciguerra, 1986 is reported for the first time from Iran and Ajaria (Georgia). Morphological and morphometric data are provided for two Iranian and one Ajarian populations. The D2–D3 region of 28S rDNA for both Iranian populations was sequenced for the first time and the data reported. A detailed study of juveniles of L. aetnaeus from Iran, Georgia and Bulgaria demonstrated that this species develops through three juvenile stages. Furthermore, phylogenetic studies inferred from sequences for the D2–D3 region of 28S rRNA gene revealed that L. aetnaeus is most closely related to L. leptocephalus. 相似文献

Predators may either learn to avoid aposematic prey or may avoidit because of an innate bias. Learned as well as innate avoidancehas been observed in birds, but the existing evidence is basedon experiments with rather few unrelated model species. We comparedthe origin of avoidance in European species of tits (Paridae).First, we tested whether wild-caught birds (blue tits, greattits, crested tits, coal tits, willow tits, and marsh tits)avoid aposematic (red and black) adult firebugs Pyrrhocorisapterus (Heteroptera) more than nonaposematic (brown painted)ones. Larger proportion of birds avoided aposematic than brown-paintedfirebugs in majority of species (except coal tits). Second,we tested whether naive hand-reared birds of 4 species (bluetits, great tits, crested tits, and coal tits) attack or avoidaposematic and nonaposematic firebugs, both novel for them.Behavior of the naive blue tits and coal tits was similar tothat of the wild-caught birds; majority of them did not attackthe firebugs. Contrastingly, the naive great tits and crestedtits behaved differently than the wild-caught conspecific adults;majority of the wild-caught birds avoided the aposematic firebugs,whereas the naive birds usually did not show any initial avoidanceand had to learn to avoid the aposematic prey. Our results showthat the origin of avoidance may be different even in closelyrelated species. Because blue tits and coal tits avoided notonly aposematic firebugs but also their brown-painted form,we interpret their behavior as innate neophobia rather thaninnate bias against the warning coloration. 相似文献

In F2 hybrids between self-sterile plants of the Volkhova cultivar and self-fertile lines with established self-fertility mutations (sf-mutations) at the major incompatibility loci S (1R), Z (2R), and T (5R), the effect of sf-mutations on the inheritance of secalin-encoding, isozyme, and morphological markers located on the same chromosomes was investigated. Linkage between loci Prx7 and S and locus Sec3 coding for high-molecular-weight secalins on chromosome 1R was shown for the first time The frequency of recombination between Prx7 and Sec3 and between S and Sec3 was 29.1 +/- 4.8% and 30.9 +/- 7.0%, respectively. Independent inheritance of locus Z and isozyme markers of chromosome 2R, Est3/5 and beta-Glu, from locus Sec2 encoding 75-kDa gamma-secalins was shown; in hybrids, the recombination frequency between Est3/5 and locus Z varied from 19.2 +/- 8.1 to 50%. Independent inheritance of morphological (Ddw and Hs) and isozyme markers (Est4, Est6/9, and Aco2) of chromosome 5R from locus T located on the same chromosome was demonstrated. 相似文献

Longidorus fagi n. sp. is described from Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria, where it was found in soil around roots of Fagus sylvatica L. The new species is characterised by its medium size, narrow anteriorly rounded lip region which is offset from the body by a very slight depression, large amphidial pouches which are distinctly bilobed at the base, and a conoid-elongate tail which is ventrally curved with a narrow, rounded terminus. Abstract Streptomyces sp. strain SB9 was isolated from perm frost soil samples in Spitsbergen, Arctic Ocean; it grows in a temperature range between 4°C and 28°C. During the survey of biologically active metabolites biosynthesized by this strain, significant amounts of α,α-trehalose (1) and glycerol (2) were detected. The compounds were isolated from the mycelium, were chromatographically separated, and the structures were elucidated on the basis of MS and NMR measurements. A possible role of trehalose in cold adaptation of the strain was examined. It was determined that the mycelium of the strain cultivated at 4°C accumulated 5-fold higher amounts of trehalose in comparison with the cells cultivated at 28°C. The mesofilic reference strains, Streptomyces spectabilis NRRL 2494 and Streptomyces lividans TK64, accumulated 100-fold less trahalose than the psychrotolerant Streptomyces sp. SB9. High amounts of trehalose in the cells could be a reason for adaptation of the strain to life at Arctic conditions. 相似文献

The Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Mn contents of the liver, spleen, muscle, bones, scales, gills, and the whole body of 3- to 7-year-old notothenioid Antarctic cod (Notothenia coriiceps, Richardson, 1844) were measured. The highest heavy metal concentrations obtained are as follows: Cd in liver, the mean value was 1.36 ± 0.19 mg/kg dry weight (wt); Pb and Zn in spleen, the mean values were 3.33 ± 0.86 and 143.97 ± 16.17 mg/kg dry wt, respectively; Cu in gills, 3.76 ± 1.16 mg/kg dry wt; and Mn in scales, 14.80 ± 4.77 mg/kg dry wt. The comparison with the data reported up to now shows that the metal concentrations varied within relative wide ranges. These first data obtained could be used as a baseline to investigate further relationships among metal contents in fish, their diet, and habitat. 相似文献
