It has been widely suggested that oxidative stress products play an important role in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. Capparis ovata (C. ovata) may useful treatment of epilepsy because it contains antioxidant flavonoids. The current study was designed to determine the effects of C. ovata on lipid peroxidation, antioxidant levels and electroencephalography (EEG) records in pentylentetrazol (PTZ)-induced epileptic rats. Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into four groups. First group was used as control although second group was PTZ group. Oral 100 and 200 mg/kg C. ovata were given to rats constituting the third and fourth groups for 7 days before PTZ administration. Second, third and forth groups received 60 mg/kg PTZ for induction of epilepsy. Three hours after administration of PTZ, EEG records, brain cortex and blood samples were taken all groups. The lipid peroxidation levels of the brain cortex, number of spikes and epileptiform discharges of EEG were higher in PTZ group than in control and C. ovata group whereas they were decreased by C. ovata administration. Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and β-carotene concentrations of brain cortex and latency to first spike of EEG were decreased by the PTZ administration although the brain cortex and plasma vitamin concentrations, and brain cortex and erythrocyte glutathione and glutathione peroxidase values were increased in PTZ + 100 and PTZ + 200 mg C. ovata groups. In conclusion, C. ovata administration caused protection against the PTZ-induced brain oxidative toxicity by inhibiting free radical and epileptic seizures, and supporting antioxidant redox system. 相似文献

The receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE), a multiligand receptor of the immunoglobulin superfamily, takes part in various inflammatory processes. The role of this receptor in the context of intercellular communication, like nanotube (NT)-mediated interaction, is largely unknown. Here, we use cell cultures of human and murine peritoneal mesothelial cells as well as murine kidneys from wild-type and RAGE knockout mouse models to assess the role of RAGE in NT formation and function. We show that loss of RAGE function results in reduced NT numbers under physiological conditions and demonstrate the involvement of MAP kinase signaling in NT formation. Additionally, we show for the first time the existence of NTs in murine kidney tissue and confirm the correlation of RAGE expression and NT numbers. Under elevated oxidative stress conditions like renal ischemia or peritoneal dialysis, we demonstrate that RAGE absence does not prevent NT formation. Rather, increased NT numbers and attenuated kidney tissue damage could be observed, indicating that, depending on the predominant conditions, RAGE affects NT formation with implications for cellular communication. 相似文献

Heart rate variability (HRV) is an important and useful index to assess the responses of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). HRV analysis is performed using electrocardiography (ECG) or photoplethysmography (PPG) signals which are typically subject to noise and trends. Therefore, the elimination of these undesired conditions is very important to achieve reliable ANS activation results. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the effects of preprocessing on the spectral analysis of HRV signals obtained from PPG waveform. Preprocessing consists of two stages: filtering and detrending. The performance of linear Butterworth filter is compared with nonlinear weighted Myriad filter. After filtering, two different approaches, one based on least squares fitting and another on smoothness priors, were used to remove trends from the HRV signal. The results of two filtering and detrending methods were compared for spectral analysis accomplished using periodogram, Welch's periodogram and Burg's method. The performance of these methods is presented graphically and the importance of preprocessing clarified by comparing the results. Although both filters have almost the same performance in the results, the smoothness prior detrending approach was found more successful in removing trends that usually appear in the low frequency bands of PPG signals. In conclusion, the results showed that trends in PPG signals are altered during spectral analysis and must be removed prior to HRV analysis. 相似文献

In this study, pepsin from turkey proventriculus was purified, and its biochemical properties examined. Initially, the turkey
proventriculus (stomach) was mixed with 10% NaCl (1∶2, w/v) and extracted by centrifugation to produce a crude extract. The
partial purification of the extract was carried out using Sephadex G-50 resin in gel filtration column chromatography. The
fractions obtained by gel filtration were analyzed for milk clotting activity (MCA), protein content, proteolytic activity
(PA), purification factor (PF), and SDS-PAGE electrophoresis was also performed. The enzyme was purified 207-fold with a recovery
of 36%. The first 4 fractions did not have any activities; fractions 7, 8, and 9 exhibited the highest levels of milk clotting
and proteolytic activity. The electrophoretic patterns revealed that further purification steps should be applied for better
