Enzyme activity of the bile and liver after disruption of its innervation and bile loss]

Continuous loss of bile in rats with a bile reservoir applied to the common bile duct caused an increase in specific activity of malic dehydrogenase, lactic dehydrogenase, glutamic dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphoric dehydrogenase, alkaline and acid phosphatase, urokinase and histidinase in the liver homogenates by the 7th day; the specific activity decreased by the 10th day. Disruption of innervation of the liver caused a sharp decrease of the ATP content and the abovementioned specifc activity in this organ. In continuous loss of bile there were revealed oscillations in the activity of the above-mentioned enzymes and sorbitol dehydrogenase in bile from the 1st to the 10th day of the experiment. Marked changes in the oscillations in the dysinnervated liver were in favour of the fact that those oscillations coursed under the control of the nervous system.     

The spatial-temporal structure of fluctuations in tick-borne encephalitis morbidity in the Maritime Territory

The annual dynamics of the epidemic process in tick-borne encephalitis and its spread in the Maritime Territory, endemic for this infection, have been studied. The study has shown that in the central mountainous regions grown with boreal forest, in contrast to the rest of this focal area, a higher morbidity level and more severe outcomes of this infection are observed. This indicates that in those regions more ancient nuclei of the endemic area of this infection with the main stable elements of the natural focus are preserved.     

Novel Mutation of the <Emphasis Type="Italic">GPIIIa</Emphasis> Gene in the Russian Population, <Emphasis Type="Italic">Leu40Arg</Emphasis>, Linked to the <Emphasis Type="Italic">Leu33Pro</Emphasis>

Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex, a platelet surface fibrinogen receptor, plays a key role in producing primary hemostasis. At present, only a single mutation in the GPIIIa gene, Leu33Pro, and a single mutation in the GPIIb gene, Ile843Ser, has been described. The mutations are known to enhance signaling functions of the receptor and are associated with the development of arterial thromboses.
