effects of Mg2+ ions, NMDA, glycine (Gly), antagonist of the glycine site 5,7-dichlorokynurenic acid (DCK), competitive antagonists of NMDA
receptors: D,L-2-aminophosphovalerate (APV), L-2-aminophosphobutyrate (APB), and D-glutamyl-aminomethylphosphonic acid (GAMP)
as well of antagonists of NMDA receptor ion channels MK-801 and ketamine (Ket) were studied on acquisition of alimentary conditional
reflex and its retention in memory. NMDA increased capacity for learning by stimulating shortterm memory. The NMDA receptor
co-agonist Gly activated this NMDA effect. DCK eliminated the NMDA and Gly stimulatoty effects. All tested antagonists at
millimolar concentrations inhibited associative function. The data obtained confirm our hypothesis about participation of
NMDA receptors in processes of formation of short-term memory in the honeybeeApis mellifera and suggest that functional characteristics of the NMDA receptors involved in the process of associative learning in the

Evaluation of the relationships between muscle structure and digging function in fossorial species is limited. Badgers and other fossorial specialists are expected to have massive forelimb muscles with long fascicles capable of substantial shortening for high power and applying high out‐force to the substrate. To explore this hypothesis, we quantified muscle architecture in the thoracic limb of the American badger (Taxidea taxus) and estimated the force, power, and joint torque of its intrinsic musculature in relation to the use of scratch‐digging behavior. Architectural properties measured were muscle mass, belly length, fascicle length, pennation angle, and physiological cross‐sectional area. Badgers possess hypertrophied shoulder flexors/humeral retractors, elbow extensors, and digital flexors. The triceps brachii is particularly massive and has long fascicles with little pennation, muscle architecture consistent with substantial shortening capability, and high power. A unique feature of badgers is that, in addition to elbow joint extension, two biarticular heads (long and medial) of the triceps are capable of applying high torques to the shoulder joint to facilitate retraction of the forelimb throughout the power stroke. The massive and complex digital flexors show relatively greater pennation and shorter fascicle lengths than the triceps brachii, as well as compartmentalization of muscle heads to accentuate both force production and range of shortening during flexion of the carpus and digits. Muscles of most functional groups exhibit some degree of specialization for high force production and are important for stabilizing the shoulder, elbow, and carpal joints against high limb forces generated during powerful digging motions. Overall, our findings support the hypothesis and indicate that forelimb muscle architecture is consistent with specializations for scratch‐digging. Quantified muscle properties in the American badger serve as a comparator to evaluate the range of diversity in muscle structure and contractile function that exists in mammals specialized for fossorial habits. The Escherichia coli RecB protein, normally synthesized in low amounts, has been amplified by linkage of the recB gene to the phage lambda leftward promoter in an expression plasmid. From strains harboring this plasmid, RecB protein has been purified to homogeneity by a simple procedure which includes affinity chromatography on a column of RecC protein bound to agarose. The purified RecB protein has DNA-dependent ATPase activity but no exonuclease activity. RecC protein alone has neither ATPase nor exonuclease activity. However, when combined together, the RecB and RecC proteins show the ATP-dependent double-stranded exonuclease properties characteristic of the RecBC DNase. 相似文献

Myosin ATPase and succinic dehydrogenase activity and fast myosin (indirect immunochemical test) were assayed in m. soleus of guinea-pigs after the administration of T4 (200 micrograms/kg) to animals every day for 3 weeks. This was followed by the application of 10 mM colchicine solution to sciatic nerve for 6 min. Permian gastropods from the Kulogory Formation (Sakmarian) were studied based on the author’s material and the collection of Yakowlew (Central Research Geological Prospecting Museum (TsNIGR Museum), St. Petersburg). Lectotypes for Arribazona tschernyschewi (Yakowlew, 1899) and Microdoma kulogorae (Yakowlew, 1899) were designated. Six species are described; four of them are new and two are assigned to the new genera (Biarmeaspira verideclinata gen. et sp. nov., Globodoma yakowlewi gen. et sp. nov., Glabrocingulum (Glabrocingulum) stankovskyi sp. nov., and Euconospira? pinegensis sp. nov.). The high degree of polymorphism in the dominant species of uniform assemblages is probably the result of their development in “undersaturated” paleocommunities of closed lagoons with gradually increasing concentration of sulfate ions. 相似文献
