The stimulating influence of glucose-containing muramyldipeptide (GMDP) on the nonspecific resistance of mice was shown to depend on the features of the pathogenesis of the infection. Thus, the intraperitoneal injection of GMDP increased the survival rate of mice infected with Escherichia coli, but had no stimulating effect on the resistance of the animals to Salmonella typhimurium natural infection in whose pathogenesis macrophages played an essential role. Experiments demonstrated that GMDP was capable of enhancing the ingestive function of macrophages, but did not increase their bactericidal activity with respect to this infection.  相似文献

A new amino acid was isolated from the cuticle collagen of Ascaris lumbricoides and characterized by ultraviolet, mass and nmr spectroscopies and chemical degradation. The results indicate that the compound is an isomer of trityrosine, having an ether linkage. The name “isotrityrosine” is proposed. Its structure suggests that it serves as a crosslink and plays a role in the organization of the collagen structure.  相似文献

The authors studied the effect of dithiothreitol (DTT), carotenoids and protease inhibitors on stabilization and protection of the enzyme catalysing the conversion of beta-carotene into retinal during the enzyme isolation from the rabbit small intestine. The addition of 1 mM DTT into the homogenization mixture increased the activity of the enzyme 5 times compared with control. The additional introduction of 0.7 mg/ml soybean trypsin inhibitor or 2.10(-4) M phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride increased the enzyme activity 2.1 and 1.2 times, respectively. Lutein, beta-carotene and lycopene at a concentration of 10 mg/ml increased the enzyme activity 2.1, 1.9 and 1.6 times respectively. The effects of DTT, lutein and the protease inhibitor depended on their concentrations and was of an independent additive character. The maximum activity of the isolated enzyme exceeded the control without DTT 15 times.  相似文献

The authors study by means of immunoperoxidase method the pattern of thyroglobulin, triiodothyronine and thyroxine distribution in 58 cases of thyroid disorders: 15 euthyroid goiters, 10 Graves' disease, 7 Hashimoto's thyroiditis, 11 folliculo-papillary carcinomas (6 primary tumors and 5 lymph node metastases), 8 follicular carcinomas, 4 anaplastic carcinomas and 3 medullary carcinomas. Thyroglobulin, triiodothyronine and thyroxine were present in most of the thyroid disorders, excepting anaplastic and medullary carcinomas. Thyroglobulin and thyroxine were localized both in the follicular epithelium and in the colloid, whereas triiodothyronine was present especially in the follicular cells. The thyroid hormones distribution in benign lesions is rather similar. In carcinomas, the pattern of thyroglobulin, triiodothyronine and thyroxine is more heterogeneous, but generally the triiodothyronine distribution is similar to that of thyroglobulin. In some carcinomas, triiodothyronine and thyroxine showed a weak or negative immunostaining. The immunoperoxidase method is a valuable tool in the study of functional disturbances in the thyroid pathology and in the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma metastases as well. Positive thyroid hormones staining clearly indicates the thyroid origin of metastases.  相似文献

A preliminary survey of the few units of the small-scale glass bangle industry in Firozabad, Agra District, Uttar Pradesh, indicated that the workers were exposed to severe degrees of heat stress during various operations in the manufacturing processes. A more detailed study in eight glass bangle units was therefore undertaken to make quantitative estimates of heat stress on exposed workers in the summer season. The thermal data collected confirmed that the heat stress on the workers was severe but measurement of certain physiological indicators revealed relatively low levels of strain amongst the exposed workers. The findings could be attributable to high degrees of acclimatization, but further observations in the field supplemented by studies on simulated exposures of volunteers in a climatic chamber seem to be warranted.  相似文献

The chequered pattern (often called Schreger pattern), which can be seen by unaided eye on transverse profiles of several proboscidean tusks and which can be emphasized by the spreading pattern of the cracks or by mineral discoloration, is an autapomorph feature of the clade Elephantoidea. The pattern differs among proboscidean taxa; therefore, it allows the coarse differentiation of elephants, mammoths, and some other basal groups. Such identification methods could facilitate efforts concerned with protection of the remaining elephant populations through ivory trade restrictions, since the tooth dentine from extinct Mammuthusprimigenius and from extant Loxodontaafricana and Elephasmaximus are the most common raw materials of the ivory carvings. The aim of this study was to show the internal structure of proboscidean ivory and to revise the existing theories on the aforementioned pattern of the elephantoids with reflections on the events which lead to the development of this microstructure. Thin sections and natural crack surfaces with various orientations of M.primigenius, Elephasantiquus, Prodeinotherium, and Deinotherium tusk fragments were used to produce a three‐dimensional model which explains the features on all profiles. The “phase shift” model is introduced, which assumes a sinusoid undulation of the dentinal tubules in radial profiles in the case of elephantoids. The model was confirmed by photomicrographs, scanning electron microscopic images, interpretation of natural crack surfaces, and radial displacement analysis of the dentinal tubules. The latter proved that the adjacent waves are not in the same phase. Several new nondestructive distinguishing methods are described here on the basis of the correlation between some microscopic and macroscopic features related to the Schreger pattern. J. Human milk lactoferrin binds two DNA molecules with different affinities.   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Evidence is presented that lactoferrin (LF), an Fe3+-binding glycoprotein, possesses two DNA-binding sites with different affinities for specific oligonucleotides (ODNs) (Kdl = 8 nM; Kd2 approximately 0.1 mM). The high affinity site became labeled after incubation with affinity probes for DNA-binding sites; like the antibacterial and polyanion-binding sites, this site was shown to be located in the N-terminal domain of LF. Interaction of heparin with the polyanion-binding site inhibits the binding of ODNs to both sites. These data suggest that the DNA-binding sites of LF coincide or overlap with the known polyanion and antimicrobial domains of the protein.  相似文献
