In Chile swine trichinosis has presented a progressive decreasing in the last two decades of XX century. T. spiralis pig infection descended from an average of 0.683 per 1000 in 1980-1984 to 0.315 in 1985-1989 and to 0.115 in 1990-1996. In the particular case of Metropolitan Region this decreasing has been more marked: from an average of 0.058 per 1000 in 1990-1994 to 0.003 in 1995-1999. Between the end of June 1999 and middle January 2000 in Metropolitan Region abattoirs T. spiralis was detected in 15 (4.9%) out of 306 swine from two pigsties located in El Monte (E.M.) and Padre Hurtado (P.H.) 45 and 30 km south-west from Santiago. In the same period another four pigs from the same premises were found infected in abattoirs of other regions. During inspection visits it was stated that both pig farms had deficient sanitary conditions. Phototrichinoscopy was positive in three out of five Rattus norvegicus collected in E.M. In pigsty PH the examination of diaphragm samples of 25 dogs and 17 cats resulted negative. In the premises originating T. spirali infected swine the Metropolitan Environmental Health Service Abattoirs Program carries out an epidemiological vigilance consisting in the follow-up of animals destined for slaughtering in order to initiate prophylactic actions oriented to eliminate eventual sources of trichinosis infection for human and rearing pigs.  相似文献

Little is known about the abundance, distribution, and ecology of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic (AAP) bacteria, particularly in oligotrophic environments, which represent 60% of the ocean. We investigated the abundance of AAP bacteria across the South Pacific Ocean, including the center of the gyre, the most oligotrophic water body of the world ocean. AAP bacteria, Prochlorococcus, and total prokaryotic abundances, as well as bacteriochlorophyll a (BChl a) and divinyl-chlorophyll a concentrations, were measured at several depths in the photic zone along a gradient of oligotrophic conditions. The abundances of AAP bacteria and Prochlorococcus were high, together accounting for up to 58% of the total prokaryotic community. The abundance of AAP bacteria alone was up to 1.94 x 10(5) cells ml(-1) and as high as 24% of the overall community. These measurements were consistent with the high BChl a concentrations (up to 3.32 x 10(-3) microg liter(-1)) found at all stations. However, the BChl a content per AAP bacterial cell was low, suggesting that AAP bacteria are mostly heterotrophic organisms. Interestingly, the biovolume and therefore biomass of AAP bacteria was on average twofold higher than that of other prokaryotic cells. This study demonstrates that AAP bacteria can be abundant in various oligotrophic conditions, including the most oligotrophic regime of the world ocean, and can account for a large part of the bacterioplanktonic carbon stock.  相似文献

The possibility of using bioenergy as a climate change mitigation measure has sparked a discussion of whether and how bioenergy production contributes to sustainable development. We undertook a systematic review of the scientific literature to illuminate this relationship and found a limited scientific basis for policymaking. Our results indicate that knowledge on the sustainable development impacts of bioenergy production is concentrated in a few well‐studied countries, focuses on environmental and economic impacts, and mostly relates to dedicated agricultural biomass plantations. The scope and methodological approaches in studies differ widely and only a small share of the studies sufficiently reports on context and/or baseline conditions, which makes it difficult to get a general understanding of the attribution of impacts. Nevertheless, we identified regional patterns of positive or negative impacts for all categories – environmental, economic, institutional, social and technological. In general, economic and technological impacts were more frequently reported as positive, while social and environmental impacts were more frequently reported as negative (with the exception of impacts on direct substitution of GHG emission from fossil fuel). More focused and transparent research is needed to validate these patterns and develop a strong science underpinning for establishing policies and governance agreements that prevent/mitigate negative and promote positive impacts from bioenergy production.  相似文献

Marine cyanobacteria of the genera Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus are important contributors to global primary production occupying a key position at the base of marine food webs. The genetically diverse nature of each genus is likely an important reason for their successful colonization of vast tracts of the world's oceans, a feature that has led to detailed analysis of the distribution of these genetic lineages at the local and ocean basin scale. Here, we extend these analyses to the global dimension, using new data from cruises in the Pacific, Indian and Arctic Oceans in combination with data from previous studies in the Atlantic Ocean, Arabian Sea, Red Sea and a circumnavigation of the southern hemisphere to form a data set which comprises most of the world's major ocean systems. We show that the distribution patterns of Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus lineages are remarkably similar in different ocean systems with comparable environmental conditions, but producing a strikingly different 'signature' in the four major ocean domains or biomes (the Polar Domain, Coastal Boundary Domain, Trade Winds Domain and Westerly Winds Domain). This clearly reiterates the idea of spatial partitioning of individual cyanobacterial lineages, but at the global scale.  相似文献

In male Wistar rats fed diets containing different plant steroids, including sitosterols, diosgenin, digitonin and saponin from gypsophila, biliary cholesterol secretion significantly increased 50% to 300%, whereas biliary bile salt and phospholipid showed minor changes. Both cholesterol and phospholipid outputs were coupled to biliary bile salt output in a curvi-linear relationship which could be fitted by rectangular hyperbolae, in the animals fed with different plant steroids. The theoretical maximal biliary cholesterol output significantly increased by 200% in sitosterol-fed rats and 500% in diosgenin-fed animals. No changes were found in the kinetic characteristics of biliary phospholipid outputs. Adding 2% cholesterol to the diosgenin diet abolished the increment of biliary cholesterol output induced by the plant steroid. The intraperitoneal injection of 45 mumol/kg body wt per day (3 days) diosgenin, a C27-sapogenin, and 65 mumol/kg body wt. per day (3 days) tomatidin, a C27-alkaloid, incorporated in phosphatidylcholine-taurocholate liposomes significantly increased biliary cholesterol output by 70%. These experiments indicated that the plant steroid-induced biliary cholesterol output was independent of the inputs of cholesterol from the diet and from hepatic cholesterogenesis modified by the plant steroid. It was apparent that the profound changes of biliary cholesterol secretion were the consequence of direct effects of the steroids on the intrahepatocytic regulatory mechanisms of biliary cholesterol secretion. This novel effect appears to be a universal characteristic of plant steroids, since it can be elicited by sitosterols, C27-sapogenins, C27-alkaloids, and saponins of the cholanic and beta-amirinic group.  相似文献

We used lectin cytochemistry and confocal microscopy to examine the distribution of sialic acid in epithelial cells. Maackia amurensis lectin and Sambuccus nigra agglutinin were used to detect alpha2,3 and alpha2,6 sialic acid, respectively. In Caco-2, HT-29 5M12, and MCF-7 cells, which express sialic acid mainly in one type of linkage, the majority of the signal was observed in the apical membrane. In cells that bound both lectins, alpha2,3 sialic acid was distributed apically, whereas alpha2,6 sialic acid showed a broader distribution. In IMIM-PC-1 cultures, alpha2,3 sialic acid was detected mainly in the apical membrane, whereas alpha2,6 sialic acid was more abundant in the basolateral domain of polarized cells. In these cells, treatment with GalNAc-O-benzyl led to reduced alpha2,3 levels and to an increase and redistribution of alpha2,6 to the apical domain. Similarly, sialic acid was predominantly expressed apically in all epithelial tissues examined. In conclusion, (a) sialic acid is mainly distributed to the apical membrane of epithelial cells, (b) there is a hierarchy in the distribution of sialic acids in polarized epithelial cells, i.e., alpha2,3 is preferred to alpha2,6 in the apical membrane, and (c) IMIM-PC-1 cells are a good model in which to study the regulation of the levels and distribution of sialic acids.  相似文献
