A comparative survey of airborne fungal spores in fiveindoor and five outdoor environments in Burdwan, WestBengal, India, was carried out for a period of twoyears using rotorod samplers and sedimentation plates(culture plate). A total of 29 spore types wereidentified, of which three were Phycomycetous (Mucor, Rhizopus, Syncephalastrum), one Ascomycetous(Chaetomium), one Basidiomycetous (Ganoderma) and the remainder were Fungi Imperfecti. The results revealed lowest count during summer andmaximum during the rainy season. Aspergilluswas quite abundant in all the environments surveyed. The predominance of Aspergillus, Curvularia,Alternaria, Cladosporium, Drechslera, Fusarium in allthe surveyed environments has been attributed to theirability to grow in various substrata. The occurrenceof Cladosporium in the winter months suggestthat it is sensitive to high temperature. Allspore types were common in both environmentsexcept Bispora, Cercospora, Papularia, Spegazzinia, Trichothecium in the outdoor sites. Acorrelation has been made between the volumetriccomposition of airspora and the incidence of seasonalmold allergy.  相似文献

The crypts outside St Bride's Church, London, contain a documented collection of skeletal remains dating from the mid-18th century. Some of these remains became mixed during post-war restoration work on the church. The worst example of such mixing involves ten infants that were boxed all together with their corresponding coffin plates. All the infants were aged between 1 and 4 years at death. Recognized skeletal aging criteria proved unsuccessful in identifying the bodies. A more precise method of age estimation was utilized in order to separate these individuals. Age was determined using the incremental markers found in dental microstructure which are thought to be formed in circadian and circaseptan rhythms. The resulting age estimates were compared with the real ages obtained from the coffin plates and death certificates. Confident identification was achieved in eight out of ten cases. This study illustrates the potential value of a little-known aging method in circumstances where commonly used methods have proved unsuccessful. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Background  

In spite of the recognized diagnostic potential of biomarkers, the quest for squelching noise and wringing in information from a given set of biomarkers continues. Here, we suggest a statistical algorithm that – assuming each molecular biomarker to be a diagnostic test – enriches the diagnostic performance of an optimized set of independent biomarkers employing established statistical techniques. We validated the proposed algorithm using several simulation datasets in addition to four publicly available real datasets that compared i) subjects having cancer with those without; ii) subjects with two different cancers; iii) subjects with two different types of one cancer; and iv) subjects with same cancer resulting in differential time to metastasis.  相似文献

Abstract

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) targeting cyclooxygenase-2 are clinically effective. However, they lack anti-thrombotic activity resulting in incidences of adverse effects like myocardial infarction, gastrointestinal and abdominal discomfort which necessitate for discovering new drug candidates with improved therapeutic effects and tolerability. Various recent researches have suggested that many lichens offer a vast reservoir for anti-inflammatory drug candidates which are natural as well as safe for human consumption. Drug discovery is a very complex and time-consuming process; however, in silico techniques can make this process simple and economic. Hence to find out natural anti-inflammatory compounds, we have carried out the virtual screening of 412 lichen compounds by molecular docking with human Cox-2 enzyme and validated the docking score by X-Score followed by ADMET and Drug-likeness analysis. The resulting 6 top-scored compounds were subjected to Molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) to analyze the stability of docked protein-ligand complex, to assess the fluctuation and conformational changes during protein-ligand interaction. The values of RMSD, Rg, and interaction energy after 30?ns of MDS revealed the good stability of these Lichen compounds in the active site pocket of Cox-2 in compare to reference, JMS. Additionally, we have done the pharmacophore analysis which found many common pharmacophore features between Lichen compounds and well known anti-inflammatory compounds. Our result shows that these lichen compounds are potential anti-inflammatory candidates and could be further modified and evaluated to develop more effective anti-inflammatory drugs with fewer side effects for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Beneficial microorganisms have been considered as an important tool for crop improvement. Native isolates of Azospirillum spp. were obtained from the rhizospheres of different rice fields. Phenotypic, biochemical and molecular characterizations of these isolates led to the identification of six efficient strain of Azospirillum. PCR amplification of the nif genes (nifH, nifD and nifK) and protein profile of Azospirillum strains revealed inter-generic and inter-specific diversity among the strains. In vitro nitrogen fixation performance and the plant growth promotion activities, viz. siderophore, HCN, salicylic acid, IAA, GA, zeatin, ABA, NH3, phosphorus metabolism, ACC deaminase and iron tolerance were found to vary among the Azospirillum strains. The effect of Azospirillum formulations on growth of rice var. Khandagiri under field condition was evaluated, which revealed that the native formulation of Azospirillum of CRRI field (As6) was most effective to elevate endogenous nutrient content, and improved growth and better yield are the result. The 16S rRNA sequence revealed novelty of native Azospirillum lipoferum (As6) (JQ796078) in the NCBI database.  相似文献

An aerobiological survey was performed in Berhampore town of West Bengal, India, to know the frequency of three common airborne pollen, namely Acacia auriculiformis, Eucalyptus citriodora and Madhuca indica using an ASTIR one day volumetric sampler. Acacia pollen showed its peak concentration in September, followed by Madhuca in April, while Eucalyptus showed its two peaks between September–October and January–April. Meteorological factors like temperature, RH, rainfall played an important role in release and dispersal of pollen. Skin prick tests with the antigenic extracts of the three pollen types, showed their allergenic potentialities. The highest markedly positive reactions were exhibited by Eucalyptus (34.04%), followed by Madhuca (22.93%) and Acacia (21.87%). 30–60% (NH4)2 SO4 cut fraction (Fraction II) of each pollen type showed maximum positivity in skin prick test. Biochemical analysis showed that Acacia pollen was richer in protein and carbohydrate, than the other two types. The total protein component of the above types were studied by SDS-PAGE showing different protein bands with a range of molecular weight 29–110 KD. In isolated fraction II (allergenically most potent) of Eucalyptus and Madhuca different protein band of 43–200 KD were obtained, while a single protein band of 57 KD was obtained for Acacia. The IgE specific allergenic reactivity was confirmed by Dot-blotting technique. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Calpain belongs to the calcium-dependent non-lysosomal cysteine protease. Calpain-1 (C1) and calpain-2 (C2) expression are ubiquitous in mammals and an important mediator of the action of calcium. Specific substrate cleavage by C1 and C2 is critical for several calcium-dependent cellular pathways including neuronal function, muscle contraction, signal transduction, cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Research suggests that C1 and C2 perform similar functions due to their structurally highly similar isoforms. Increasing evidence suggests that C1 and C2 carry out their specific function in vivo. A recent paper published by Shinkai-Ouchi et al. (Bioscience Reports (2020) 40, DOI: 10.1042/BSR20200552) elucidated the mechanism to differentiate the function of each calpain with respect to the efficiency and longevity for proteolysis after activation. Further, the study represented that C1 and C2 do not synergistically perform their work in vitro. On the other hand, the activity of C1 is reduced in presence of C2. This insight establishes the platform for future studies to examine how C2 regulates the C1 for substrate proteolysis.  相似文献
