In the brains of teleosts, angiotensin II (ANG II), one of the main effector peptides of the renin-angiotensin system, is implicated in various physiological functions notably body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and cardiovascular regulation, but nothing is known regarding the potential action of ANG II and other angiotensin derivatives on ventilation. Consequently, the goal of the present study was to determine possible ventilatory and cardiovascular effects of intracerebroventricular injection of picomole doses (5-100 pmol) of trout [Asn(1)]-ANG II, [Asp(1)]-ANG II, ANG III, ANG IV, and ANG 1-7 into the third ventricle of unanesthetized trout. The central actions of these peptides were also compared with their ventilatory and cardiovascular actions when injected peripherally. Finally, we examined the presence of [Asn(1)]-ANG II, [Asp(1)]-ANG II, ANG III, and ANG IV in the brain and plasma using radioimmunoassay coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography. After intracerebroventricular injection, [Asn(1)]-ANG II and [Asp(1)]-ANG II two ANG IIs, elevated the total ventilation through a selective stimulatory action on the ventilation amplitude. However, the hyperventilatory effect of [Asn(1)]-ANG II was threefold higher than the effect of [Asp(1)]-ANG II at the 50-pmol dose. ANG III, ANG IV, and ANG 1-7 were without effect. In addition, ANG IIs and ANG III increased dorsal aortic blood pressure (P(DA)) and heart rate (HR). After intra-arterial injections, none of the ANG II peptides affected the ventilation but [Asn(1)]-ANG II, [Asp(1)]-ANG II, and ANG III elevated P(DA) (50 pmol: +80%, +58% and +48%, respectively) without significant decrease in HR. In brain tissue, comparable amounts of [Asn(1)]-ANG II and [Asp(1)]-ANG II were detected (ca. 40 fmol/mg brain tissue), but ANG III was not detected, and the amount of ANG IV was about eightfold lower than the content of the ANG IIs. In plasma, ANG IIs were also the major angiotensins (ca. 110 fmol/ml plasma), while significant but lower amounts of ANG III and ANG IV were present in plasma. In conclusion, our study suggests that the two ANG II isoforms produced within the brain may act as a neurotransmitter and/or neuromodulator to regulate the cardioventilatory functions in trout. In the periphery, two ANG IIs and their COOH-terminal peptides may act as a circulating hormone preferentially involved in cardiovascular regulations.  相似文献

Management of fish resources in the Western Indian Ocean is complicated due to the lack of data on the basic biology and landing statistics for exploited fish species. In this paper, a database including biological parameters, length frequency distributions and catches of Epinephelus gabriellae in Oman according to fleet components has been established to develop a management plan for its sustainable exploitation. Length cohort analyses and yield per recruit were examined by simulating changes in fishing effort in length at first capture and by introducing a seasonal ban for trawlers. The results showed a high sensitivity to the applied value of natural mortality (M). (i) With M = 0.40, a healthy status of the stock is observed; however, with M values of 0.20 and 0.15 the stock appears slightly overexploited, and actual F exceeds 10 and 30% of the F01 level, respectively. (ii) A moderate increase of length at first capture would not significantly affect the long‐term yield or stock spawning biomass; however, a substantial length increase would in the long‐term lead to a decrease in yields for the artisanal fleet using traps. (iii) A seasonal ban regulation for trawlers would not have a significant effect on the sustainable yield, but if the fishing effort were to increase considerably, a significant long‐term gain in yield would be obtained with a closed season from April‐September.  相似文献

Two keratinolytic fungi, Chrysosporium keratinophilum and Malbranchea anamorph of Uncinocarpus reesii , and another three wool-colonizing fungi not previously reported to be keratinolytic, Aspergillus fumigatus, A. flavus and Scopulariopsis Candida , were isolated from soil samples baited with animal wool. These fungi were tested for their ability to utilize wool-lipids as sole source of carbon and energy. The lipid contents of wool of various animals ranged between 2 and 5%. The different lipid extracts were similar in composition; they contained steryl esters, sterols, fatty acids, fatty alcohols and monoacylglycerols. The predominant acyl moiety in wool-lipids of different animals was linolenic acid (18:2). The five fungi tested grew well on an inorganic medium supplemented with total wool-lipids as sole sources of carbon and energy. Individual lipid classes fractionated by preparative thin layer chromatography and suspended into inorganic medium were able to support fungal growth as sole carbon sources. These fungi and another eight wool-colonizing strains. C. tropicum, C. zonatum, C . anamorph of Arthroderma curryei, Microsporum cams, M. distortum, Trichophyton interdigitale, Emmonsia parva and Myceliophthora vellerae could also utilize standard lipids and fatty acids (cholesterol and palmitic and linoleic acids)- Evidence for the uptake and degradation of chloesterol by C. keratmophilum is presented.  相似文献

AimTo investigate the efficacy of photo activated disinfection (PAD) in reducing colony-forming unit (CFU) counts of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) in infected dental root canals. The study compared the efficacy of PAD with conventional endodontic treatment (CET) and also a combination of CET along with PAD.Material and Methods53 maxillary incisors were taken for the study. Teeth were divided into 3 groups, CET (Group I) (n = 11), PAD (Group II) (n = 21), and a combination of CET and PAD (Group III) which consisted of (n = 21) samples, Group II and Group III were further divided into 2 subgroups, Group IIa, IIb and Group IIIa, IIIb. Strains of E. faecalis were inoculated in all the root canals. CET group samples were treated by chemo-mechanical preparation (CMP) alone, PAD samples were treated with laser alone at 2 different exposure time (4 min and 2 min). In the combination treatment, samples were treated initially by CET and then by PAD for a time period of 4 min and 2 min. Contents of the root canal were aspirated, diluted and plated in Tryptone Soya Broth (TSB) and plates were incubated for 24 h to observe the bacterial regrowth.ResultsShowed PAD used along with CMP reduced the bacterial load of E. faecalis by 99.5% at 4 min and 98.89% at 2 min.ConclusionPAD may be an adjunctive procedure to kill residual bacteria in the dental root canal systems after standard endodontic root canal preparation.  相似文献

One promising approach to hydrogen energy utilization from full water splitting relies on the successful development of earth‐abundant, efficient, and stable electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Here, homologous Co–Ni‐based nanotube/nanosheet structures with tunable Co/Ni ratios, including hydroxides and nitrides, are grown on conductive substrates by a cation‐exchanging method to grow hydroxides, followed by anion exchanging to obtain corresponding nitrides. These hydroxide OER catalysts and nitride HER catalysts exhibit low overpotentials, small Tafel slopes, and high current densities, which are attributed to their large electrochemically reactive surface, 1D morphologies for charge conduction, and octahedral coordination states of metal ions for efficient catalytic activities. The homologous Co–Ni‐based nanotube hydroxides and nitrides suggest promising electrocatalysts for full water splitting with high efficiency, good stability, convenient fabrication, and low cost.  相似文献

Two immunologically distinct strains of E. maxima were examined in this study: the M6 strain and the Guelph strain. The differential expression between the sporozoites of the two strains of E. maxima was determined by image analysis of 100 μg of protein from each strain separated by standard one- and conventional two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. In addition to differences in both molecular weight and the electrophoretic mobility, differences in the intensity of polypeptide bands for example, GS 136.4 and M6 169 were explored. Pooled gels were prepared from each strain. A representative 2D-PAGE gel spanning a non-linear pH range of 3–10 of E. maxima strain M6 consisted of approximately 694 polypeptide spots with about 67 (9.6%) of the polypeptide spots being unique relative to the other strain. E. maxima strain GS had about 696 discernable polypeptide spots with 69 spots (9.9%) that differed from those of the M6 strain. In-depth characterization of the variable polypeptide spots; unique polypeptide spots (absence or presence) and shared polypeptide spots with modifications may lead to novel vaccine target in the form of multi-component, multi-stage, multi-immunovariant strains, multi-species subunit vaccine, and diagnostic probe for E. maxima.  相似文献

Based on chelation‐enhanced fluorescence, a new fluorescent coumarin derivative probe 3(1‐(7‐hydroxy‐4‐methylcoumarin)ethylidene)hydrazinecarbodithioate for Hg2+, Ag+ and Ag nanoparticles is reported. Fluorescent probe acts as a rapid and highly selective “off–on” fluorescent probe and fluorescence enhancement by factors 5 to12 times was observed upon selective complexation with Hg2+, Ag+ and Ag nanoparticles. The molar ratio plots indicated the formation of 1:1 complexes between Hg2+ and Ag+ with the probe. The linear response range covers a concentration range 0.1 × 10–5–1.9 × 10–5 mol/L, 0.1 × 10–5–2.3 × 10–5 mol/L and 0.146 × 10–12–2.63 × 10–12 mol/L for Hg2+, Ag+ and Ag nanoparticles, respectively.
