A study of ABO and Rh D polymorphisms was conducted on 923 Tibetans living in exile in four different places (both high and low altitudes) in India. The frequencies of alleles p, q, and r for the ABO blood group system were found to be 0.1295, 0.2544, and 0.6152, respectively, and for alleles D and d of the Rh blood group system the allele frequencies were 0.9428 and 0.0572, respectively, for the total data. No significant difference was found for the allele frequencies among the four places for the two blood group systems. The allele frequencies were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for the ABO blood group system and show East Asian affinity for the Tibetans. 相似文献

Chargaff''s rule of intra-strand parity (ISP) between complementary mono/oligonucleotides in chromosomes is well established in the scientific literature. Although a large numbers of papers have been published citing works and discussions on ISP in the genomic era, scientists are yet to find all the factors responsible for such a universal phenomenon in the chromosomes. In the present work, we have tried to address the issue from a new perspective, which is a parallel feature to ISP. The compositional abundance values of mono/oligonucleotides were determined in all non-overlapping sub-chromosomal regions of specific size. Also the frequency distributions of the mono/oligonucleotides among the regions were compared using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. Interestingly, the frequency distributions between the complementary mono/oligonucleotides revealed statistical similarity, which we named as intra-strand frequency distribution parity (ISFDP). ISFDP was observed as a general feature in chromosomes of bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. Violation of ISFDP was also observed in several chromosomes. Chromosomes of different strains belonging a species in bacteria/archaea (Haemophilus influenza, Xylella fastidiosa etc.) and chromosomes of a eukaryote are found to be different among each other with respect to ISFDP violation. ISFDP correlates weakly with ISP in chromosomes suggesting that the latter one is not entirely responsible for the former. Asymmetry of replication topography and composition of forward-encoded sequences between the strands in chromosomes are found to be insufficient to explain the ISFDP feature in all chromosomes. This suggests that multiple factors in chromosomes are responsible for establishing ISFDP. 相似文献

Effect of Mg doping in Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ nanophosphors for blue and white emission at near‐UV excitation 下载免费PDF全文
Nanophosphors of (Sr0.98‐xMgxEu0.02)2SiO4 (x = 0, 0.18, 0.38, 0.58 and 0.78) were prepared through low temperature solution combustion method and their luminescence properties were studied. The emission peak for Eu2+ ?doped Sr2SiO4 nanophosphor is observed at ~490 nm and ~553 nm corresponding to two Sr2+ sites Sr(I) and Sr(II) respectively for 395 nm excitation. However the addition of Mg2+ dopant in Sr2SiO4 leads to suppression of ~553 nm emission peak due to absence of energy levels of Sr (II) sites which results in a single broad emission at ~460 nm. It was shown that the emission peak blue shifted with increase in Mg concentration which may be attributed to change in crystal field environment around Sr(I) sites. Therefore, the (Mg0.78Sr0.20Eu0.02)2SiO4 nanophosphor can be used for blue emission and the Sr2SiO4:Eu0.042+ for green–yellow emission at 395 nm excitations. The Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates for mixed powders of (Mg0.78Sr0.20Eu0.02)2SiO4 and Sr2SiO4:Eu0.042+ (in a 1:1 ratio) fall in the white region demonstrating the possible use of the mixture in white light generation using near‐UV excitation source. 相似文献

Background
Aedes albopictus has recently been implicated as a major vector in the emergence of dengue and chikungunya in several parts of India, like Orissa, which is gradually gaining endemicity for arboviral diseases. Ae. albopictus is further known to be naturally infected with Wolbachia (maternally inherited bacterium), which causes cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI) in mosquitoes leading to sperm-egg incompatibility inducing the death of embryo. Knowledge of genetic diversity of Ae. albopictus, along with revealing the type of Wolbachia infection in Ae. albopictus is important to explore the genetic and biological characteristics of Ae. albopictus, prior to exploring the uses of CI-based vector control strategies. In this study, we assessed the population genetic structure and the pattern of Wolbachia infection in Ae. albopictus mosquitoes of Orissa.Methods and Results
Ae. albopictus mosquitoes were collected from 15 districts representing the four physiographical regions of Orissa from 2010–2012, analyzed for genetic variability at seven microsatellite loci and genotyped for Wolbachia strain detection using wsp gene primers. Most microsatellite markers were successfully amplified and were polymorphic, showing moderate genetic structure among all geographic populations (FST = 0.088). Genetic diversity was high (FST = 0.168) in Coastal Plains populations when compared with other populations, which was also evident from cluster analyses that showed most Coastal Plains populations consisted of a separate genetic cluster. Genotyping analyses revealed that Wolbachia-infected Ae. albopictus field populations of Orissa were mostly superinfected with wAlbA and wAlbB strains. Wolbachia superinfection was more pronounced in the Coastal Plain populations.Conclusion
High genetic structure and Wolbachia superinfection, observed in the Coastal Plain populations of Orissa suggested it to be genetically and biologically more unique than other populations, and hence could influence their vectorial attributes. Such high genetic diversity observed among Coastal Plains populations could be attributed to multiple introductions of Ae. albopictus in this region. 相似文献26.
An analysis of haptoglobin (HP) phenotypes in 81 cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) without retinopathy and 122 cases with diabetic retinopathy (DR) were studied in relation to 180 normal and healthy controls matched for age and sex. A significant decrease in HP 2-1 frequency was found, suggesting protection for heterozygotes in both DM and DR (with a relative risk of about 0.31). As an acute-phase reactant HP may be functionally involved in the etiology of DM and DR, which are associated with immunologic and inflammatory processes, respectively. No significant differences were found with respect to sex, age at onset, duration of DR, types of DM and DR, and family history. 相似文献

A common approach to estimate the strength and direction of selection acting on protein coding sequences is to calculate the dN/dS ratio. The method to calculate dN/dS has been widely used by many researchers and many critical reviews have been made on its application after the proposition by Nei and Gojobori in 1986. However, the method is still evolving considering the non-uniform substitution rates and pretermination codons. In our study of SNPs in 586 genes across 156 Escherichia coli strains, synonymous polymorphism in 2-fold degenerate codons were higher in comparison to that in 4-fold degenerate codons, which could be attributed to the difference between transition (Ti) and transversion (Tv) substitution rates where the average rate of a transition is four times more than that of a transversion in general. We considered both the Ti/Tv ratio, and nonsense mutation in pretermination codons, to improve estimates of synonymous (S) and non-synonymous (NS) sites. The accuracy of estimating dN/dS has been improved by considering the Ti/Tv ratio and nonsense substitutions in pretermination codons. We showed that applying the modified approach based on Ti/Tv ratio and pretermination codons results in higher values of dN/dS in 29 common genes of equal reading-frames between E. coli and Salmonella enterica. This study emphasizes the robustness of amino acid composition with varying codon degeneracy, as well as the pretermination codons when calculating dN/dS values. 相似文献

Based on known heterocyclic topoisomerase II inhibitors and anticancer agents, various indenoindolone derivatives were predicted as potential topoisomerase II–inhibiting anticancer agents. They are hydrazones, (thio)semicarbazones, and oximes of indenoindolones, and indenoindolols. These derivatives with suitable substitutions exhibited potent specific inhibition of human DNA TopoIIα while not showing inhibition of topoisomerase I and DNA intercalation, despite the fact that parent indenoindolones are known poor/moderate inhibitors of topoisomerase II. The potent topoisomerase II inhibitor indenoindolone derivatives exhibited good anticancer activities compared to etoposide and 5-fluorouracil, and relatively low toxicity to normal cells. These derivatizations of indenoindolones were found to result in enhancement of anticancer activities. 相似文献
