Speech perception is thought to be linked to speech motor production. This linkage is considered to mediate multimodal aspects of speech perception, such as audio-visual and audio-tactile integration. However, direct coupling between articulatory movement and auditory perception has been little studied. The present study reveals a clear dissociation between the effects of a listener’s own speech action and the effects of viewing another’s speech movements on the perception of auditory phonemes. We assessed the intelligibility of the syllables [pa], [ta], and [ka] when listeners silently and simultaneously articulated syllables that were congruent/incongruent with the syllables they heard. The intelligibility was compared with a condition where the listeners simultaneously watched another’s mouth producing congruent/incongruent syllables, but did not articulate. The intelligibility of [ta] and [ka] were degraded by articulating [ka] and [ta] respectively, which are associated with the same primary articulator (tongue) as the heard syllables. But they were not affected by articulating [pa], which is associated with a different primary articulator (lips) from the heard syllables. In contrast, the intelligibility of [ta] and [ka] was degraded by watching the production of [pa]. These results indicate that the articulatory-induced distortion of speech perception occurs in an articulator-specific manner while visually induced distortion does not. The articulator-specific nature of the auditory-motor interaction in speech perception suggests that speech motor processing directly contributes to our ability to hear speech.  相似文献

Binding activity of [3H]thienylcyclohexylpiperidine was examined using rat brain synaptic membranes treated with Triton X-100. This compound is proposed to be a noncompetitive antagonist for the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-sensitive subclass of brain excitatory amino acid receptors. The activity decreased in proportion to increasing concentrations of the detergent up to 0.08%. In vitro addition of L-glutamate (Glu) partially restored the decreased activity caused by this Triton treatment, whereas further addition of glycine (Gly) entirely reversed the loss of activity to the level found in membranes extensively washed but not treated with a detergent. These stimulatory effects were found to be due to the acceleration of the association of ligand. The rank order of potentiation of the activity coincided well with that of the affinity for the NMDA-sensitive subclass among numerous Glu analogs. The potentiation by Gly as well as Glu was invariably prevented by competitive NMDA antagonists, such as DL-2-amino-5-phosphonovalerate and (+/-)-3-(2-carboxypiperazin-4-yl)propyl-1-phosphonate, but not by strychnine. No significant difference was observed between pharmacological profiles of the activities in synaptic membranes treated and not treated with Triton X-100, except haloperidol. The potency of this sigma-ligand to inhibit the activity was greatly reduced by the Triton treatment in the presence of both Glu and Gly. These results suggest that the regulatory properties of Triton-treated synaptic membranes remain unchanged in terms of the interaction within the NMDA receptor complex.  相似文献

Chromosomal abnormalities were studied in 33,551 abortions and births to women whose contraceptive histories had been recorded at their first antenatal visit in 1975-1977. Chromosome examinations were performed exclusively on clinical grounds. There were 45 de novo abnormalities detected (1.34/1,000); three of them were detected at amniocentesis. Trisomy 21 was observed in 27 cases (0.80/1,000), trisomy 18 in nine (0.27), other trisomies in three (0.09), and translocations or deletions in five (0.15). One case of triploidy and six cases of inherited abnormalities were detected. There were no significant racial variations. No increase in risk for chromosomal abnormalities was found among women who had used oral contraceptives prior to becoming pregnant or among women who experienced oral contraceptive breakthrough pregnancies. Two cases of trisomy 18 were observed among the 814 deliveries following oral contraceptive breakthrough conceptions (2.46/1,000), two cases of trisomy 21 occurred in 338 births following failures of rhythm contraception (5.92/1,000), and no cases of trisomy 21 or 18 among the 1,569 women using spermicides at the time of conception.  相似文献

To elucidate the synthesis of atrial natriuretic polypeptide (ANP) in the failing heart, eighteen human right auricles obtained at cardiovascular surgery were studied. The concentration of alpha-human ANP-like immunoreactivity (alpha-hANP-LI) in human right auricles ranged from 13.8 to 593.5 micrograms/g, and the tissue alpha-hANP-LI concentration in severe congestive heart failure (CHF) (New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class III or IV) was much higher than those in mild CHF of NYHA class I and class II. The alpha-hANP-LI in the human auricle consisted of 3 major components of ANP, gamma-human ANP (gamma-hANP), beta-human ANP (beta-hANP) and alpha-human ANP (alpha-hANP). The predominant component of alpha-hANP-LI was gamma-hANP in the mild CHF, whereas beta-hANP and/or alpha-hANP were prevailing in the severe CHF and, especially, beta-hANP was markedly increased in human failing hearts.  相似文献

Evidence indicates that stress conditions might lead to drug dependence. Recently, we have demonstrated that exposure to far infrared ray (FIR) attenuates acute restraint stress via induction of glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) gene. We investigated whether FIR affects methamphetamine (MA)-induced behavioral sensitization and whether FIR-mediated pharmacological activity requires interaction between dopamine receptor and GPx-1 gene. We observed that MA treatment significantly increased GPx-1 expression in the striatum of wild-type (WT) mice. Interestingly, exposure to FIR potentiated MA-induced increase in GPx-1 expression. This phenomenon was also observed in animals receiving MA with dopamine D1 receptor antagonist SCH23390. However, dopamine D2 receptor antagonist sulpiride did not affect MA-induced GPx-1 expression. FIR exposure or SCH23390, but not sulpiride, significantly attenuated MA-induced behavioral sensitization. Exposure to FIR significantly attenuated MA-induced dopamine D1 receptor expression, c-Fos induction and oxidative burdens. FIR-mediated antioxidant effects were also more pronounced in mitochondrial- than cytosolic-fraction. In addition, FIR significantly attenuated against MA-induced changes in mitochondrial superoxide dismutase and mitochondrial GPx activities, mitochondrial transmembrane potential, intramitochondrial Ca2+ level, mitochondrial complex-I activity, and mitochondrial oxidative burdens. The attenuation by FIR was paralleled that by SCH23390. Effects of FIR or SCH23390 were more sensitive to GPx-1 KO than WT mice, while SCH23390 treatment did not exhibit any additive effects on the protective activity mediated by FIR, indicating that dopamine D1 receptor constitutes a molecular target of FIR. Our result suggests that exposure to FIR ameliorates MA-induced behavioral sensitization via possible interaction between dopamine D1 receptor and GPx-1 gene.  相似文献

The anti-predator behavior of gelada baboons has been observed to consist of simple flight (i.e. they flee to cliffs after becoming alarmed by potential predators). However, active antipredator behavior was observed in a recently found gelada population in Arsi, Ethiopia. This population showed frequent active counter-attacks and severe mobbing at predators. Males fought domestic dogs on the plain and exhibited a systematic mobbing behavior towards a leopard on the cliff face to chase it off. These active anti-predator behaviors are the first confirmed reports on gelada baboons and may provide a useful insight for the understanding of the process of evolutionary adaptation to highland habitats by gelada baboons, as well as for the origin of this small southern population.  相似文献

APieris melete male emits species-specific scent from the wings, while a virgin female ofP. melete is frequently observed to take the so-called “mate-refusal posture” in response to courting males. The role of the male scent in the mating behavior ofP. melete was investigated experimentally by using scented and scentless male models. It is suggested that the male wing scent can function primarily as a sex pheromone to “seduce” the virgin females that assume the mate-refusal posture, and can therefore induce a successful copulation. Link proteins (LPs) belong to the link-module superfamily, which can stabilize and enhance the binding of lecticans to hyaluronan. We report here the identification and characterization of a novel rat link protein gene (Lp3/Hapln3). The deduced protein sequence shares the typical modular elements of link proteins and has an estimated mass of 39 kDa. Examination of the rat genomic DNA sequence revealed that Lp3/Hapln3 and aggrecan genes were paired on chromosome 1q31. Another LP gene and the lectican gene were also paired at a different locus, as they are in the human and mouse genomes. Immunohistochemical analysis showed the prominent expression of Lp3/Hapln3 in the smooth muscle tissues of the vascular wall and gastrointestinal tract. Further comparative studies revealed that Lp3/Hapln3 was well co-localized with versican around the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels but not around endothelial cells. In vitro experiments using primary cultured rat arterial smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) demonstrated the coordinated up-regulation of Lp3/Hapln3 and versican by platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). These data were supported by in vivo studies of a mechanical vascular injury model in mice. Altogether, our results suggest that Lp3/Hapln3 is involved, together with versican and hyaluronan, in the formation of the pericellular matrix of vascular smooth muscle cells.  相似文献

The DNA ploidy pattern and amplification of ERBB and ERBB2 genes were examined in paraffinembedded tissue from gastric carcinomas using flow cytometry and a slot-blot hybridization technique. The incidence of aneuploidy in well differentiated adenocarcinomas (56%) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than that in poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas (21%). The DNA ploidy pattern was not remarkably different between the primary tumors and metastatic deposits in lymph nodes. Of the nine specimens having an aneuploid stem cell line in the primary tumor and/or in metastases, three showed ERBB2 gene amplification and one showed ERBB gene amplification. The incidence of epidermal growth factor (EGF) immunoreactivity in tumor cells showed no difference between diploid and aneuploid tumors. These findings indicate that aneuploidy is frequently associated with amplification of ERBB and ERBB2 genes.  相似文献
