Riassunto Nell'ambito del programma della Flora Palinologica Italiana, è state redatta la scheda palinologica diOstrya carpinifolia Scop. Sono riportate alcune osservazioni morfologiche sul numero delle aperture e sulle principali differenze tra polline ?fresco? e acetolizzato.      

Dicarboxyamylose and dicarboxycellulose,stereoregular polyelectrolytes: physicochemical characterization and interaction with divalent cations

2,3-Dicarboxyamylose (DCA) and 2,3-dicarboxycellulose (DCC) have been obtained by splitting with periodate of all the C(2)C(3) bonds of amylose and cellulose, and further oxidation (with chlorite) of the corresponding polydialdehydes. Small, but reproducible, differences of ¹³C chemical shifts in dicate that DCA and DCC retained the different configuration at C-1 of the original polysaccharides, therefore being stereoisomers. The potentiometric and conductimetric titration curves of DCA and DCC and the pH-dependence of their ¹H n.m.r. spectra are those of typical polydicarboxylates. Interaction of DCA and DCC (Na salts) with divalent cations is clearly indicated by inflexions in conductimetric titration curves with Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Cu²⁺ and Fe²⁺, and by variation in specific optical rotation.     

Fine needle aspiration cytology in two cases of well-differentiated acinic-cell carcinoma of the parotid gland. Discussion of diagnostic criteria

Two cases of well-differentiated acinic-cell carcinoma of the parotid gland with diverse histology (one compact variant and one rare tubular-acinic type with an important lymphoid component) underwent fine needle aspiration. Both were clinically thought to be benign neoplasms but were correctly diagnosed preoperatively by aspiration cytology. Cytohistologic correlation in these cases showed that the decisive diagnostic criteria for well-differentiated acinic-cell carcinoma were the presence of atypical acinous structures and of cytoplasmic granules that were acid alcian blue negative and period acid-Schiff positive after diastase digestion.     

High resolution NMR spectroscopy of physiological fluids: from metabolism to physiology.

High resolution NMR spectroscopy of physiological fluids provides quantitative, qualitative and dynamic information on the metabolic status of the interstitial and plasma compartments under a variety of pathophysiological conditions. The simultaneous detection and quantitation by NMR spectroscopy of numerous compounds of the intermediary metabolism offers a new insight in the understanding of the milieu intérieur. NMR spectroscopy of physiological fluids offers a unique way to define and monitor the global metabolic homeostasis in humans. The development of this analytical approach is still limited by the scarcity of pluridisciplinary teams able to fully exploit the wealth of information present on the NMR spectrum of a fluid. While application in pharmacology and toxicology is already established, the main areas of current development are cancer, hereditary metabolic disorders, organ transplantation and neurological diseases.
