To investigate whether or not the mode of delivery produces differences in cerebral oxygenation, cerebral hemoglobin oxygen saturation was measured using full-spectrum near infrared spectroscopy in 26 healthy term newborn infants immediately after birth. Infants in group 1 (n=20) were delivered vaginally, and those in group 2 (n=6) by elective cesarean section. Arterial oxygen saturation in the right hand was also measured simultaneously using a pulse oximeter. Changes in arterial oxygen saturation showed no significant difference between the two groups. The mean+/-S.D. of cerebral hemoglobin oxygen saturation in group 1 increased rapidly after birth, from 29+/-17% at 2 min to 68+/-6% at 8.5 min, followed by an almost constant value (66+/-7% at 15 min). In comparison, cerebral hemoglobin oxygen saturation in group 2 also increased rapidly until 8.5 min, but after this time decreased significantly to 57+/-5% at 15 min after birth. This indicates that the mode of delivery has a marked influence on cerebral oxygenation immediately after birth.  相似文献

The spatial distribution and seasonal variation in the concentration and carbon isotopic composition of dissolved methane in a river–lake ecosystem were studied in Lake Biwa, Japan, and its tributary rivers. Methane concentrations in all subsystems examined were supersaturated with respect to the atmosphere. The epilimnion showed higher concentrations of dissolved methane than the hypolimnion in the pelagic zone. Peak methane concentrations were observed at the thermocline. The largest amount of methane in the pelagic water column was recorded at the end of a stagnant period, at which the bottom water of the sublittoral zone (30m in depth) exhibited increased methane concentration. Transect observation of dissolved methane revealed three methane peaks at different water depths in the lake, and river water and the sediments in littoral and sublittoral zones were suggested to be the corresponding sources. Water at the river mouth was replete with dissolved oxygen but also contained a high concentration of methane. The present results suggest that river water and littoral sediment are potential sources of dissolved methane in Lake Biwa, and other sources, such as internal waves, are responsible for increased methane in the pelagic zone at the end of stagnant periods. Carbon stable isotope analysis indicated that there were different sources of dissolved methane, although it was difficult to identify the origins due to high variation of the isotopic composition of methane from different sources.  相似文献

We investigated a dose-response relationship between renal dysfunction and liftime cadmium intake in individual subjects using logistic regression analysis and calculated the allowable level of lifetime cadmium intake among the inhabitants of the Jinzu River basin. From the participants of 1967 and 1968 health examinations, target subjects in whose hamlet the cadmium concentration in rice was known and whose history of residence was also known were selected. Cadmium concentrations in rice from data analyzed by the Toyama Prefecture from 1971 to 1976 were used. The urinary examination was done by semiquantitative determination of protein and glucose. All odds ratios for lifetime cadmium intake obtained from logistic regression analysis were more than 1 in both males and females who had resided in their current hamlet since birth with and without subjects who moved from nonpolluted areas and with or without the control group. The allowable levels of lifetime cadmium intake were calculated by substituting the abnormality rates of urinary findings of the controls 40, 50, 60, and 70 yr old into the logistic regression formula. The allowable levels of lifetime cadmium intake were less than 1.58 g for both sexes and each age group using proteinuria with glucosuria measurements.  相似文献

We investigated the role of tyrosine kinase (TK) signaling in the opening of the ATP-sensitive K(+) (K(ATP)) channel and 72-kDa heat shock protein (HSP72) expression during late preconditioning. Rabbits were subjected to surgical operation (sham) or were preconditioned (PC) with four cycles of 5 min of ischemia and 10 min of reperfusion. Twenty-four hours later, animals were subjected to 30 min of ischemia and 180 min of reperfusion. Genistein (1 mg/kg ip) was used to block the receptor TK. Six groups were studied: control, sham, genistein-sham, PC, genistein-PC, and vehicle-PC group (1% dimethyl sulfoxide). Genistein or vehicle was given 30 min before the surgical procedure. Genistein pretreatment decreased the expression of HSP72 in PC hearts and suppressed action potential duration shortening during ischemia in sham and PC groups. Infarct size (%risk area) was reduced in the PC (11.6 +/- 1.0%) and vehicle-PC (19.3 +/- 2.0%) compared with the control (40.0 +/- 3.8%) or sham (46.0 +/- 2.0%) groups (P < 0.05). Genistein pretreatment increased infarct size to 46.4 +/- 4.1% in the PC hearts. We conclude that TK signaling is involved in K(ATP) channel opening and HSP72 expression during late PC.  相似文献

A new alginate lyase-producing micro-organism, designated as Bacillus sp. strain ATB-1015, was effectively isolated from soil samples pretreated for 3 months with a substrate of the enzyme, sodium alginate. Alginate lyase activity was assayed by the degrading activity of biofilm on Teflon sheet discs, which was formed by a mucoid strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAM3 selected from clinical isolates. The extracellular alginate lyase was precipitated with ammonium sulphate from the culture broth, and purified by gel filtration and anion exchange chromatography. The molecular weight of the lyase was estimated to be 41 kDa by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and Sephacryl S-200 HR column chromatography. The optimum pH and temperature for the enzyme activity were around 7·5 and 37 °C, respectively, and the Km value was 0·17% with the substrate, sodium alginate. The lyase activity was completely inhibited by treatment with 1 mmol l−1 of EDTA and the decreased activity was almost completely recovered by the addition of 2 mmol l−1 of CaCl2. The activity was not affected by treatment with the protein denaturants, 0·01 mol l−1 of SDS or 1 mmol l−1 of urea. The lyase had substrate specificity for both the poly-guluronate and poly-mannuronate units in the alginate molecule.  相似文献

We examined photoperiodic response of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) rhizome morphogenesis (its transition to a storage organ) by using seed-derived plants. Rhizome enlargement (increase in girth) was brought about under 8, 10 and 12 h photoperiods, whereas the rhizomes elongated under 13 and 14 h photoperiods. Rhizomes elongated under 14 h light regimes supplied as 8 h of natural light plus 6 h supplemental hours of white, yellow or red light, but similar treatments with supplemental blue, green or far red light, caused enlargement in girth of the rhizomes. A 2 h interruption of the night with white, yellow or red light, in plants entrained to 8 h photoperiod brought rhizome elongation, whereas 2 h-blue, green or far red light night breaks still resulted in rhizome increase in girth. The inhibitory effect of a red (R) light night break on rhizome increase in girth was reversed by a far-red (FR) light given immediately afterwards. Irradiation with R/FR/R inhibited the rhizome increase in girth. FR light irradiation following R/FR/R irradiation cancelled the effect of the last R light irradiation. It was demonstrated that the critical photoperiod for rhizome transition to storage organ is between 12 and 13 h photoperiod. It was also evident that the optimal light quality range for interruption of dark period (night break) is between yellow and red light and that a R/FR reversible reaction is observed. From these results, we propose that phytochrome plays an important role in photoperiodic response of rhizome increase in girth in lotus. This is the first report on phytochrome-dependent morphogenesis of storage organs in rhizomous plants.  相似文献

This paper reports the characterization of an alkaline phosphatase (AP) from an aerobic hyperthermophilic Archaeon Aeropyrum pernix K1. The native AP was purified into homogeneity. The enzyme is predicted as a homodimeric structure with a native molecular mass of about 75 kDa and monomer of about 40 kDa. Apparent optimum pH and temperature were estimated at 10.0 and above 95°C, respectively. Magnesium ion increased both the stability and the activity of the enzyme. A. pernix AP has been demonstrated as a very thermostable AP, retaining about 76% of its activity after being incubated at 90°C for 5.5 h and 67% of its activity after being incubated at 100°C for 2.5 h, respectively, under the presence of Mg(II). Enzyme activity was increased in addition of exogenous Mg(II), Ca(II), Zn(II), and Co(II).  相似文献

Embryogenesis in the reef building corals Acropora intermedia, A. solitaryensis, A. hyacinthus, A. digitifera, and A. tenuis was studied in detail at the morphological level, and the relationships among the animal pole, blastopore, and mouth were investigated for the first time in corals. These species showed essentially the same sequence of development. The embryo undergoes spiral-like holoblastic cleavage despite the presence of a dense isolecithal yolk. After the morula stage, the embryo enters the "prawn-chip" stage, which consists of an irregularly shaped cellular bilayer. The embryo begins to roll inward to form the bowl stage; the round shape observed during this stage suggests that it may be the beginning of gastrulation. However, the blastopore closes and the stomodeum (mouth and pharynx) is formed via invagination at a site near the closed blastopore. During the planula stage, a concavity forms in the aboral region in conjunction with numerous spirocysts, suggesting that spirocysts are used to attach to the substrate before the onset of metamorphosis.  相似文献

We examined gametogenesis and the periodicity of planula release in the brooding coral Acropora (Isopora) brueggemanni (Brook, 1893) on Akajima Island, Okinawa, Japan. We captured the moment when A. brueggemanni would be in the process of self-fertilization. Whole colonies of this species were cultured separately or together with other colonies in plastic containers. We observed no apparent periodicity of planula release in the collected colonies. A few planulae were released intermittently during the observation period, regardless of whether the colonies were cultured individually or with other colonies. Serial paraffin sections of A. brueggemanni showed follicle-like cells surrounding the oocyte during vitellogenesis. In September and October, some spermaries looked half-broken and some ova were surrounded by sperm or spermaries instead of follicle-like cells. Such ova were heart-shaped and may have been cells at the first cleavage stage. These observations suggest that the migration of spermaries and/or oocytes resulted in the close proximity of oocytes and sperm, which would allow self-fertilization. This possibility, together with the production of planula larvae by isolated colonies, suggests that this brooding coral engages in self-fertilization.  相似文献
