Cytogenetic characteristics of the cell line BHK-21 (C-13) and three of its clones

Cell clones (C-9, C-24, C-36) of the cell line BHK-21 (C-13) were obtained and characterized. Compared to the original line, cells of these clones are larger in size, display an increased content of nuclear DNA and have more chromosomes. The G-bands were obtained by Giemsa staining following mild trypsin treatment. Marker chromosomes were determined in the original cell line BHK-21 (C-13) and in its large-cell clones. All the clones obtained are polyploid.     

Possible mechanism of ATP formation in energy-transforming biological membranes

An "elementary act" of ATP formation from ADP and Pi in energy-transducing organels (mitochondria, chloroplasts and chromatophores) can be realized without closed membrane vesicles, pieces of membranes and F0-component of H+ATPase. The "elementary act" is initiated by a rather fast deprotonation of several acid groups of the coupling factor F1 (or CF1), this process leads to structurally non-equilibrium state of the enzyme due to the appearance of "additional" negative charges in unchanged protein globula. The endergonic step of ATP synthesis, i. e. release of tightly-bound ATP into the aqueous medium, occurs during conformational relaxation of the non-equilibrium state of H+ATPase. Closed membrane vesicles are necessary for a cyclic return of the enzyme to the initial state with protonized functional groups, this provides multiple synthesis of ATP under the steady state and quasi-stationary conditions. Analysis of structural proteins and products of cell-free translation of vaccinia virus of mRNA using mono-specific antibodies

The monospecific antiserums to the major proteins p12, p19, p20, p42, p61 of the vaccinia virus coat were obtained and analyzed. The dynamics of the proteins accumulation in the infected cells has been studied. Products of the cell-free translation of the total viral mRNA precipitated by the obtained antiserums were identified. The p20 protein has been found to be a result of p12 protein reversible oligomerization under the conditions of electrophoresis. The antigenic relation of p12 and p20 proteins to a p42 protein, also a p12 oligomer, has been demonstrated. The possibility is discussed to use the obtained antiserums for mapping of the genes corresponding to structural proteins in the genome of the vaccinia virus.
