Inhibition of H2O2 and O2-. generation in the respiratory chain, treated with 2,3-dimercaptopropanol

Inhibition of electron transport in bovine heart submitochondrial particles resulting from treatment with British antilewisite is accompanied by suppression of superoxide radical and H2O2 generation at the b-c1 site of the respiratory chain. In conjunction with the previously obtained data, the results suggest that the effect of British antilewisite is directed towards the step of ubihydroqinone oxidation to ubisemiquinone by the Rieske FeS-protein.     

Some behavioral characteristics of common voles <Emphasis Type="Italic">Microtus arvalis arvalis</Emphasis> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">Microtus arvalis obscurus</Emphasis> in family groups under experimental conditions

Characteristics of social behavior and time budgets of common voles Microtus arvalis arvalis and M. a. obscurus were studied in 34-m² enclosures. Ten family groups of each chromosomal form (a total of 60 animals) were used. The experiment consisted of four stages, the vole behavior being monitored (I) when they settled in a new territory; (II) when they were in a familiar territory; and upon placing (III) an unfamiliar male or (IV) an unfamiliar female of the same chromosomal race in the enclosure. Observations were performed for a total of 1120 h. The time budgets of the two vicarious forms of voles were compared with respect to the durations of sitting outside the nest boxes, grooming, active movement, and foraging. The social behavior of M. a. arvalis and M. a. obscurus was analyzed with respect to the numbers of intragroup interactions and the ratio between different types of contacts (exploratory, amicable, aggressive, contact evasion, and avoidance).     

Recombinant human insulin: X simplification of folding of the biotechnological precursor of recombinant human insulin

The folding of biotechnological precursor of the human insulin precursor was carried out from solubilized inclusion bodies without a preliminary oxidizing or reducing its Cys residues. The inclusion bodies were dissolved in 8 M urea with the addition of 10 mM 2-mercaptoethanol. Hydrophobic cell components were removed from the solution by passing through a neutral weakly hydrophobic sorbent, the solution was five times diluted and refolded upon addition of 0.3 mM cystine for initiation of disulfide rearrangement. The presence of nucleic acids and cell protein impurities does not affect the folding efficiency. The resulting precursor of folded human insulin was purified by metal-chelate affinity chromatography and converted into insulin by two-stage enzymatic cleavage.     

Anticoagulant activity of low-molecular-weight sulfated derivatives of galactomannan from Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) seeds

Galactomannan from seeds of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub. (guar) was depolymerized using immobilized enzymatic preparation celloviridin. A set of fragments whose molecular weights varied from 12.6 to 245.6 kDa was obtained. Sulfated derivatives of components of all fractions were synthesized, in which the content of HSO3(-) groups was 48.05% +/- 2.31. All preparations exhibited anticoagulant activity, which was recorded in vitro in two tests--aIIa and aXa. The antithrombin activity (aIIa) was high (up to 65-87 U/mg) and did not depend on the molecular weight of a sulfated derivative; in the second test (aXa), the effect of molecular weight was observed. Biospecific electrophoresis allowed us to detect the ability of galactomannan sulfates to form complexes with protamine sulfate, a classic antidote to heparin.     

Molecular genetic analysis of wild soybean (Glycine soja Sieb. & Zucc.) population structure in anthropogenic and natural landscapes of Primorskii krai

The data are presented on genetic population structure of wild soybean growing in natural and anthropogenically disturbed landscapes of Primorskii krai of the Russian Federation. Comparative analysis showed that wild soybean populations exposed to anthropogenic influence exhibited lower genetic diversity than natural populations. Recommendations on conservation of the wild plant gene pools using comparative data on population genetic structures are made.
