This paper reviews data which illustrate that histamine has prominent actions on the electrophysiology of mammalian central neurons. Extracellular recordings reveal that this amine can either excite or depress neuronal activity in different regions of the brain. The excitations are associated with activation of H1 histamine receptors, whereas depressions are associated with occupancy of H2 receptors. Intracellular experiments have revealed multiple actions of histamine on membrane potential and conductance as well as on amplitude and frequency of postsynaptic potentials. In addition, we present preliminary data from rat cerebral cortex and hippocampal slices which suggest a modulatory role for histamine on gamma-aminobutyric acid mediated neurotransmission in the areas of the brain.  相似文献

In vitro experiments performed by several investigators have demonstrated that IL-7 is a growth factor for immature B lymphocytes, thymocytes, and mature T lymphocytes. To evaluate the potential therapeutic use for human rIL-7 (rhuIL-7) as a hematopoietin, we have studied the in vivo hematopoietic effects of rhuIL-7 in mice. In these experiments, sublethally irradiated and normal mice were treated with or without rhuIL-7 for up to 26 days. Administration of rhuIL-7 significantly increased the white blood cell count in the peripheral blood and spleen in both normal and irradiated mice. Treatment with rhuIL-7 also accelerated lymphocytic recovery in irradiated mice. Precursor and mature B lymphocytes showed the greatest expansion in response to rhuIL-7 administration, with smaller increases in T lymphocytes being observed. In mice recovering from high dose irradiation, rhuIL-7 treatment resulted in preferential expansion of CD8+ T lymphocytes and more rapid normalization of the CD4/CD8 ratios. Differential analysis of peripheral blood smears demonstrated that rhuIL-7 also increased the numbers of immature granulocytes in both normal and irradiated mice. Moreover, administration of rhuIL-7 to normal, irradiated, cyclophosphamide-pretreated, or 5-fluorouracil-pretreated mice increased the number of acetylcholinesterase-positive megakaryocytes in the spleen, but not the bone marrow. Therefore, although the major in vivo effects of rhuIL-7 were on cells of the lymphocytic lineage, rhuIL-7 also increased the numbers of some immature cells of the myeloid lineage.  相似文献

Thick‐billed Parrots (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha) and Maroon‐fronted Parrots (Rhynchopsitta terrisi) are the only parrots in Mexico found in high‐elevation coniferous forests. Both species are critically endangered due to logging, and climate change is expected to further reduce their available habitat. Our objectives were to assess the present and future availability of a suitable habitat for these parrots using ecological niche models. Future climatic scenarios were estimated by overlaying the present distributions of these parrots on maps of projected biome distributions generated using a North American vegetation model. Our climatic scenarios revealed that the distribution of key habitats for both parrots will likely be affected as the climate becomes more suitable for xeric biomes. The climate associated with coniferous forests in the current range of Maroon‐fronted Parrots is predicted to disappear by 2090, and the climate associated with the key coniferous habitats of Thick‐billed Parrots may contract. However, our results also indicate that suitable climatic conditions will prevail for the high‐elevation coniferous biomes where Thick‐billed Parrots nest. The degree to which both species of parrots will be able to adapt to the new scenarios is uncertain. Some of their life history traits may allow them to respond with a combination of adaptive and spatial responses to climatic change and, in addition, suitable climatic conditions will prevail in some portions of their ranges. Actions needed to ensure the conservation of these parrots include strict control of logging and integration of rapid response teams for fire management within the potential foraging ranges of nesting pairs. A landscape with a greater proportion of restored forests would also aid in the recovery of current populations of Thick‐billed and Maroon‐fronted parrots and facilitate their responses to climate change.  相似文献
