BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm and can originate within major abdominal veins, including the inferior venacava (IVC). CASE: A 45-year-old woman presented with upper abdominal pain and a mass lesion in the liver and within the lumen of the IVC. A diagnosis of primary leiomyosarcoma of the IVC was made by using imaging techniques,fine needle aspiration cytology and histopathologic examination of the resected specimen. CONCLUSION: In patients presenting with vague upper abdominal pain and radiologic features of a hepatic mass extending to major veins, the rare possibility of primary leiomyosarcoma of the IVC shoald he considered and investigated by both fine needle aspiration cytology and intraoperative histology. Early surgical intervention and/or postoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy are associated with improved survival. 相似文献

Infection with Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiologic agent in Chagas disease, may result in heart disease. Over the last decades, Chagas disease endemic areas in Latin America have seen a dietary transition from the traditional regional diet to a Western style, fat rich diet. Previously, we demonstrated that during acute infection high fat diet (HFD) protects mice from the consequences of infection-induced myocardial damage through effects on adipogenesis in adipose tissue and reduced cardiac lipidopathy. However, the effect of HFD on the subsequent stages of infection – the indeterminate and chronic stages – has not been investigated. To address this gap in knowledge, we studied the effect of HFD during indeterminate and chronic stages of Chagas disease in the mouse model. We report, for the first time, the effect of HFD on myocardial inflammation, vasculopathy, and other types of dysfunction observed during chronic T. cruzi infection. Our results show that HFD perturbs lipid metabolism and induces oxidative stress to exacerbate late chronic Chagas disease cardiac pathology. 相似文献

Voltage-gated calcium channels are important mediators of several physiological processes, including neuronal excitability and muscle contraction. At the molecular level, the channels are composed of four subunits--the pore forming alpha(1) subunit and the auxiliary alpha(2)delta, beta and gamma subunits. The auxiliary subunits modulate the trafficking and the biophysical properties of the alpha(1) subunit. In the past several years there has been an acceleration of our understanding of the auxiliary subunits, primarily because of their molecular characterization and the availability of spontaneous and targeted mouse mutants. These studies have revealed the crucial role of the subunits in the functional effects that are mediated by voltage-gated calcium channels. 相似文献

Background
As preventing cancer with the help of a vaccine is a comparatively new concept, awareness and education about it will have important implication in the implementation of this strategy.Materials and Methods
Present explorative questionnaire based survey included 618 MBBS students for final analysis.Results
Majority of participants (89.6%) were well aware of the preventable nature of cervical cancer. Most of them (89.2%) knew that necessary factor responsible for cervical cancer is infection with high risk HPV. Awareness regarding the availability of vaccine against cervical cancer was 75.6%. Females had a better awareness regarding availability of vaccine, target population for vaccination and about the catch up program. Overall acceptance of HPV vaccine among the population studied was 67.8%. Medical teaching had a definitive impact on the understanding of this important public health issue. Females seemed to be more ready to accept the vaccine and recommend it to others. For our study population the most common source of information was medical school teaching. Majority of participants agreed that the most important obstacle in implementation of HPV vaccination program in our country is inadequate information and 86.2% wanted to be educated by experts in this regard.Conclusion
HPV vaccine for primary prevention of cervical cancer is a relatively new concept. Health professional will be able to play a pivotal role in popularizing this strategy. 相似文献56.

The ability to culture and maintain postnatal mouse hippocampal and cortical neurons is highly advantageous, particularly for studies on genetically engineered mouse models. Here we present a protocol to isolate and culture pyramidal neurons from the early postnatal (P0-P1) mouse hippocampus and cortex. These low-density dissociated cultures are grown on poly-L-lysine-coated glass substrates without feeder layers. Cultured neurons survive well, develop extensive axonal and dendritic arbors, express neuronal and synaptic markers, and form functional synaptic connections. Further, they are highly amenable to low- and high-efficiency transfection and time-lapse imaging. This optimized cell culture technique can be used to culture and maintain neurons for a variety of applications including immunocytochemistry, biochemical studies, shRNA-mediated knockdown and live imaging studies. The preparation of the glass substrate must begin 5 d before the culture. The dissection and plating out of neurons takes 3-4 h and neurons can be maintained in culture for up to 4 weeks. 相似文献

During a recent phylogenetic study, group I introns were noted that interrupt the nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rDNA) gene in species of Ceratocystiopsis. Group I introns were found to be inserted at the following rDNA positions: S943, S989, and S1199. The introns have been characterized and phylogenetic analysis of the host gene and the corresponding intron data suggest that for S943 vertical transfer and frequent loss appear to be the most parsimonious explanation for the distribution of nuclear SSU rDNA introns among species of Ceratocystiopsis. The SSU rDNA data do suggest that a recent proposal of segregating the genus Ophiostoma sensu lato into Ophiostoma sensu stricto, Grosmannia, and Ceratocystiopsis has some merit but may need further amendments, as the SSU rDNA suggests that Ophiostoma s. str. may now represent a paraphyletic grouping. 相似文献

Sex chromosomes in flowering plants, in contrast to those in animals, evolved relatively recently and only a few are heteromorphic. The homomorphic sex chromosomes of papaya show features of incipient sex chromosome evolution. We investigated the features of paired X- and Y-specific bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs), and estimated the time of divergence in four pairs of sex-linked genes. We report the results of a comparative analysis of long contiguous genomic DNA sequences between the X and hermaphrodite Y (Y(h)) chromosomes. Numerous chromosomal rearrangements were detected in the male-specific region of the Y chromosome (MSY), including inversions, deletions, insertions, duplications and translocations, showing the dynamic evolutionary process on the MSY after recombination ceased. DNA sequence expansion was documented in the two regions of the MSY, demonstrating that the cytologically homomorphic sex chromosomes are heteromorphic at the molecular level. Analysis of sequence divergence between four X and Y(h) gene pairs resulted in a estimated age of divergence of between 0.5 and 2.2 million years, supporting a recent origin of the papaya sex chromosomes. Our findings indicate that sex chromosomes did not evolve at the family level in Caricaceae, and reinforce the theory that sex chromosomes evolve at the species level in some lineages. 相似文献

New chromeno carbamodithioates (7a-i), have been synthesized from 2, 3-dimethyl-7-(oxiran-2-ylmethoxy)-4H-chromen-4-one (5), carbondisulphide and commercially available acyclic and cyclic secondary amines in acetonitrile with good to excellent yields. The free radical scavenging activity of novel chromone-carbamodithioate analogues was quantitatively estimated by spectrophotometric method. Whereas, molecular docking studies were performed with the active site of cyclooxygenase-2 to identify hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic and ionic interactions between protein and ligands. The compounds 7g and 7h demonstrated potent antioxidant activity with IC50 of 1.405 ± 0.019 mM and 1.382 ± 0.35 mM respectively compared to Ascorbic acid. 相似文献

Abstract: The role of male moths of silkworm in the spread of pebrine spores (disease) has been studied using appropriate crossings and examining the multiplication of spores in the testis. Sections of infected testis reveal the presence of spores in the peritoneal sheath, spermatids but not in the sperm. A large number of spores was observed in the bursa copulatrix of the uninfected female moth mated with an infected male moth. This is a first record of venereal transmission of pebrine spores in silkworms. Venereally transmitted spores do not contribute to transovarial transmission, but give a false positive indication during mother-moth examination. An alternative method for mother-moth testing has also been discussed. 相似文献
