Purification and spectral characterization of seminalplasmin, an antimicrobial protein from bull semen

A new method for the purification of seminalplasmin, an antimicrobial protein from bull semen, was developed. The last step of the procedure involved preparative high performance liquid chromatography on a reversed phase column. Highly purified seminalplasmin was characterized by CD, absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy, double immunodiffusion and biological activity. Analytical ultracentrifugation revealed a molecular mass of 6300 Da. Amino-acid analysis of the protein preparation indicated the absence of sulfur-containing amino acids cysteine and methionine.     

Comparison of laser Doppler imaging, fingertip lacticemy test, and nailfold capillaroscopy for assessment of digital microcirculation in systemic sclerosis

Introduction  

Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a relatively new method for assessing the functional aspect of superficial skin blood flow in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and Raynaud's phenomenon. The present study investigated the dynamic behavior of digital skin microvascular blood flow before and after cold stimulus (CS) in SSc patients and in healthy controls by means of a comprehensive approach of the functional (LDI), morphological (nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC)), and biochemical (fingertip lacticemy (FTL)) microcirculation components.     

A NEW MODE OF LIFE HISTORY IN THE FRESHWATER RED ALGAL GENUS BATRACHOSPERMUM

In a new type of Batrachospermum life history, the Batrachospermum phase does not originate from the erect filaments of a Pseudochantransia but directly from a prostrate crustose growth, the prothalle of Sirodot. It is probable that the few lowermost segments of those Batrachospermum cladomes are diploid, the remainder due to an interposed “somatic” meiosis are haploid.
