Spongospora subterranea, which causes powdery scab of potato, infects a diverse range of plant species. Crop rotation as a powdery scab management tool will be compromised if pathogen hosts exist between potato crops. Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) and pyrethrum (Tanacetum cinerariifolium) are important crops within intensive vegetable production rotations in NW Tasmania. Measurements of S. subterranea soil inoculum within a commercial field showed pathogen amounts were substantially elevated following an opium poppy crop, which suggested host status. In glasshouse testing, opium poppy and pyrethrum were confirmed as hosts of S. subterranea, with opium poppy the more susceptible of the two. Both species were less susceptible than tomato, a known host. Observations of early growth suggested inoculation impacts on all three plant species, although at 16 (tomato and opium poppy) or 26 (pyrethrum) weeks postinoculation, only tomato had significantly reduced shoot and root development. The role of rotation crops in inoculum persistence and the possible role of S. subterranea as a minor pathogen of nonpotato crops are discussed.  相似文献

Several natural language processing tools, both commercial and freely available, are used to extract protein interactions from publications. Methods used by these tools include pattern matching to dynamic programming with individual recall and precision rates. A methodical survey of these tools, keeping in mind the minimum interaction information a researcher would need, in comparison to manual analysis has not been carried out. We compared data generated using some of the selected NLP tools with manually curated protein interaction data (PathArt and IMaps) to comparatively determine the recall and precision rate. The rates were found to be lower than the published scores when a normalized definition for interaction is considered. Each data point captured wrongly or not picked up by the tool was analyzed. Our evaluation brings forth critical failures of NLP tools and provides pointers for the development of an ideal NLP tool.  相似文献

Response surface methodology was used to predict the glucosylation yields of thiamin using immobilized β-glucosidase. A Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) of 32 experiments with immobilized β-glucosidase, thiamin, incubation period, buffer concentration and pH, as five independent variables was employed at five levels. A second-order polynomial equation was developed, the regression coefficient values of which exhibited a R2 value of 0.74. Contour plots explained the glucosylation behaviour of the enzyme through a reversal in glucosylation at a cross-over point corresponding to 60% (w/w d-glucose) immobilized β-glucosidase and 0.12 mM buffer concentration at pH 6. The highest conversion yield of 58% obtained experimentally compared well with the predicted yield of 52% under optimum conditions of 40% immobilized β-glucosidase, 0.55 mmol thiamin, 96 h incubation period and 0.16 mM buffer concentration at pH 7. Validation experiments carried out at certain random predictive conditions also showed good correspondence between experimental and predictive yields.  相似文献

The diamine putrescine (Put) has been shown to accumulate in tree leaves in response to high Al and low Ca in the soil, leading to the suggestion that this response may provide a physiological advantage to leaf cells under conditions of Al stress. The increase in Put is reversed by Ca supplementation in the soil. Using two cell lines of poplar (Populus nigra × maximowiczii), one with constitutively high Put (resulting from transgenic expression of a mouse ornithine decarboxylase – called HP cells) and the other with low Put (control cells), we investigated the effects of reduced Ca (0.2–0.8 mM vs. 4 mM) and treatment with 0.1 mM Al on several biochemical parameters of cells. We found that in the presence of reduced Ca concentration, the HP cells were at a disadvantage as compared to control cells in that they showed greater reduction in mitochondrial activity and a reduction in the yield of cell mass. Upon addition of Al to the medium, the HP cells, however, showed a reversal of low-Ca effects. We conclude that due to increased ROS production in the HP cells, their tolerance to low Ca is compromised. Contrary to the expectation of deleterious effects, the HP cells showed an apparent advantage in the presence of Al in the medium, which could have come from reduced uptake of Al, enhanced extrusion of Al following its accumulation, and perhaps a reduction in Put catabolism as a result of a reduction in its biosynthesis.  相似文献

The effect of Cd, Cu, Zn, Hg, and Pb solutions at various concentrations, on the restoration potential of the leaves ofPortulaca oleracea was tested. All the trace metals completely affected the shoot regeneration. The degree of their effect on root regeneration, however, varied. Early initiation of parental leaf decay was also observed. The order of their relative effect on the regeneration process was: Cd > Cu > Zn > Hg > Pb.  相似文献

Fifteen flavobacterium strains were isolated from raw chicken meat, raw goat meat and poultry soil in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Most of the isolates developed yellow pigmented colonies with mucoid-spreading edges on food flavobacterium medium. The flavobacteria were Gram-negative rods and failed to produce indole and were non-fermentative. Moreover, they produced a rich array of enzymes such as amylase, lipase, catalase, urease, gelatinase, DNase, and oxidase. Phylogenetic analyses of the strain SKS05-GRD based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed the bacterium as Myroides odoratimimus (nucleotide sequence accession number JQ178355). Antimicrobial susceptibility test for M. odoratimimus SKS05-GRD and other strains were assessed by disc diffusion method. M. odoratimimus SKS05-GRD showed wide resistance to the antibiotics such as amikacin, ampicillin, cefadroxil, cefoperazone, ceftazidine, ceftriaxone, netillin and gentamicin. M. odoratimimus was subjected to plasmid isolation and plasmid curing to seek the relationship between plasmid and antibiotic resistance. Plasmid curing was done by using ethidium bromide and was found to be effective at 300 and 500 μg/ml. Assessment of antibiotic sensitivity of M. odoratimimus SKS05-GRD showed sensitivity to amikacin, gentamicin and kanamycin confirming that resistance to these three antibiotics is plasmid mediated and other antibiotic resistance are chromosomal mediated.  相似文献

Greenhouse pot experiments were conducted to determine the growth response, metal tolerance, and phytostabilization potential of Jatropha curcas L The plants were grown on different degrees of multi-metal contaminated acid mine soils (T0, control; T1, moderately and T2, highly contaminated soils) with or without limestone amendments. The order of metal accumulation in J. curcas was roots>stems>leaves. The higher tolerance index (>90%) with no phytotoxic symptoms and growth reduction in T1 showed that this plant has the ability to tolerate polymetallic acid mine tailings. Further, various enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants also actively involved in metal defense mechanism in J. curcas. On the other hand, to alleviate the predominant phytoavailable toxic metals such as Al, Cu, and Pb, different rates (0.1, 0.25, 0.50, and 1%) of limestone amendments were added in both T1 and T2 soils. The growth performance of J. curcas was improved due to the increase in soil pH and decrease in phytoavailable soil A1 (95%), Zn (approximately 75%), and Cu (approximately 65%) contents at 0.50% of lime addition. Based on the inherent tolerance ability of J. curcas in existing adverse environmental conditions without liming, it could be used as a suitable candidate for phytostabilization in acid mine tailings.  相似文献
