One of the most widespread methods of thermal sugar sterilization is the use of saturated water vapour under pressure in the capacity of heat source. Guaranteed sterility of solutions should be reached under conditions providing the least sugar splitting. However, in practice the integral effect of the thermal field on the solution is as a rule not taken into consideration. Reaction of the salivary glands to acute stress]

Experiment on male rats has shown that acute stress suppressed amylase and superoxide dismutase activity in the submandibular salivary glands. The influence of short repeated stresses weakened the inhibiting effect of the acute stress on the activity of enzymes. A conclusion is drawn about the high sensibility of salivary glands to stress influences.     

Dynamics of the spatial structure of pulsed discharges in dense gases in point cathode−plane anode gaps and their erosion effect on the plane electrode surface

The dynamics of the spatial structure of the plasma of pulsed discharges in air and nitrogen in a nonuniform electric field and their erosion effect on the plane anode surface were studied experimentally. It is established that, at a nanosecond front of the voltage pulse, a diffuse discharge forms in the point cathode–plane anode gap due to the ionization wave propagating from the cathode. As the gap length decreases, the diffuse discharge transforms into a spark. A bright spot on the anode appears during the diffuse discharge, while the spark channel forms in the later discharge stage. The microstructure of autographs of anode spots and spark channels in discharges with durations of several nanoseconds is revealed. The autographs consist of up to 100 and more microcraters 5–100 μm in diameter. It is shown that, due to the short duration of the voltage pulse, a diffuse discharge can be implemented, several pulses of which do not produce appreciable erosion on the plane anode or the soot coating deposited on it.     

Androgen status in rabbits after long-term administration of non-steroid androgen antagonist niftolid

Niphtholid (25 mg/kg/dl for 60 days) significantly increases the LH and testosterone blood levels but has no marked effect on ++androstenedione and testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin levels in Chinchilla++ mature rabbits. The concentration of latter was elevated against a background of low testosterone and androstenedione and high LH levels in the castrated rabbits. The obtained results show that niphtholid exerts a continuous stimulating and pronounced effect on the rabbit pituitary-gonadal axis and simultaneously prevents the manifestation of suppressing androgen effect on testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin contents in the organism.     

The efficacy of exogenous and endogenous interferonization in preventing influenza]

In this work the results of using interferon (IFN), Dibasol and the combination of these preparations for the urgent prophylaxis of influenza and acute respiratory diseases (ARD) among the employees of the Gamaleia Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology (USSR Acad. Med. Sci.) are summarized. Reaferon and Dibasol decrease ARD morbidity 2 times and leukocytic IFN decreases it 1.4 times, while the combined administration of Dibasol and IFN has proved to be ineffective. Reaferon is mainly a prophylactic remedy; it has been found to bring about almost no decrease in the number of patients at the peak of morbidity, while pronouncedly decreasing it in two weeks after the administration of the preparation. Dibasol has a curative effect, sharply interrupting the beginning rise of morbidity. Reaferon normalizes the characteristics of the IFN status, decreasing the amount of circulating IFN and enhancing the capacity of leukocytes for producing alpha-IFN and gamma-IFN. For the prophylaxis of respiratory infections the use of Reaferon is advisable 3-4 weeks prior to the beginning of the epidemic and then, when the first cases of infection are registered, the course of prophylaxis with Dibasol should be carried out.
