The automatic place recognition problem is one of the key challenges in SLAM approaches for loop closure detection. Most of the appearance-based solutions to this problem share the idea of image feature extraction, memorization, and matching search. The weakness of these solutions is the storage and computational costs which increase drastically with the environment size. In this regard, the major constraints to overcome are the required visual information storage and the complexity of similarity computation. In this paper, a novel formulation is proposed that allows the computation time reduction while no visual information are stored and matched explicitly. The proposed solution relies on the incremental building of a bio-inspired visual memory using a Fuzzy ART network. This network considers the properties discovered in primate brain. The performance evaluation of the proposed method has been conducted using two datasets representing different large scale outdoor environments. The method has been compared with RatSLAM and FAB-MAP approaches and has demonstrated a decreased time and storage costs with broadly comparable precision recall performance. 相似文献

Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) is an alternative to Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) for correction of myopia. In cases where surgeons inadvertently dissect the posterior surface first, identification of the anterior surface and subsequent removal become difficult since the anterior surface of the lenticule is compacted against the anterior stromal surface. This may result in incomplete lenticule removal, and a remnant of intrastromal lenticule in SMILE may lead to visual sequelae. In order to aid surgeons in lenticule removal, we have designed and developed 5 novel SMILE lenticule strippers to locate and extract the lenticules more easily. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the efficacy and quality of these lenticule strippers in assisting SMILE. Thirty porcine eyes were used. The ease of extraction and removal of the lenticule with different strippers was graded by an experienced SMILE surgeon, the extracted lenticule circularity was evaluated by calculating the lenticule circularity, and the intactness of the extracted lenticule edge was assessed using scanning electron microscopy. We found these novel strippers can be of great help to improve the safety and quality of SMILE surgery, particularly in those cases of difficult lenticule extraction. 相似文献

The petroleum ether, chloroformic, ethyl acetate, methanolic, Total Oligomers Flavonoids (TOF) enriched extracts, water extract as well as its fractions A1, A2, A3 obtained from aerial parts ofRhamnus alaternus, a Tunisian-Mediterranean medicinal species, were investigated for the contents of phenolic compounds, cytotoxic activity against the K562 human chronic myelogenous leukaemia cell line and L1210 leukaemia murine cells and for antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial reference strains. A pronounced cytotoxic effect on both the cell lines was shown in the TOF, ethyl acetate, methanolic, aqueous extracts and A2 fraction, with respectively IC50 values 75, 232, 298, 606 and 571 μg/ml on K562 cells and 198, 176, 767, 560 and 614 μg/ml on L1210 cell line. Significant activity against bacterial reference strains:Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis andSalmonella typhimurium was shown with ethyl acetate, TOF extracts and A2 fraction. Activation of the inflammatory response system and varied levels of cytokines in acute schizophrenia have been suggested by recent studies. Psychopharmacologic agents can differentially effect cytokine production, which suggests that therapeutic function of neuroleptics may involve immunomodulation. The present study was carried out to examine: (i) serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1beta, soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R), IL-6, IL-8 and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha in schizophrenic patients; (ii) their relation with psychopathological assessment; and (iii) the relation of the initial cytokine levels with responsiveness to risperidone therapy. Thirty-four drug-free schizophrenic patients with acute exacerbation and 23 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were recruited for this study. Psychopathological assessments at admission and throughout risperidone treatment for 60 days were recorded. Serum cytokine concentrations were determined with chemilumunescence assays. According to our results, serum IL-1beta, sIL-2R, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha concentrations adjusted for age, gender, body mass index and smoking were no different in patients with schizophrenia and controls and among subtypes of schizophrenia. However, the initial TNF-alpha concentrations had a significant effect on Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and Scale Assessment of Positive Symptoms scores. The initial cytokine concentrations of the patients responsive to risperidone were not significantly different from those of non-responsive patients. The present study demonstrates that plasma levels of IL-1beta, sIL-2R, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha adjusted for confounding factors are not altered in drug-free schizophrenic patients at acute exacerbation. We suggest that, if cytokine production is altered in schizophrenia, these alterations may not be detectable in systemic circulation. According to our results, the therapeutic effect of risperidone is not related to basal levels of the aforementioned cytokines. Dravet syndrome (DS), previously known as severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy, is one of the most severe forms of childhood epilepsy. DS is caused by a mutation in the neuronal voltage-gated sodium-channel alpha-subunit gene (SCN1A). However, 25–30% of patients with DS are negative for the SCN1A mutation screening, suggesting that other molecular mechanisms may account for these disorders. Recently, the first case of DS caused by a mutation in the neuronal voltage-gated sodium-channel beta-subunit gene (SCN1B) was also reported. In this report we aim to make the molecular analysis of the SCN1A and SCN1B genes in two Tunisian patients affected with DS. The SCN1A and SCN1B genes were tested for mutations by direct sequencing. No mutation was revealed in the SCN1A and SCN1B genes by sequencing analyses. On the other hand, 11 known single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified in the SCN1A gene and composed a putative disease-associated haplotype in patients with DS phenotype. One of the two patients with putative disease-associated haplotype in SCN1A had also one known single nucleotide polymorphism in the SCN1B gene. The sequencing analyses of the SCN1A gene revealed the presence of a putative disease-associated haplotype in two patients affected with Dravet syndrome. 相似文献

Irisin was first identified in skeletal muscle cells. It is an exercise protein that is secreted into the circulation; it causes conversion of white adipose tissue to brown adipose tissue. We investigated irisin immunoreactivity in mole rat (Spalax leucodon) tissues. We examined cerebellum, pituitary, heart, liver, pancreas, spleen, uterus, kidney and striated muscle in female adult mole rats. Tissues were processed, embedded in paraffin, sectioned at 5 μm and stained immunohistochemically for irisin. Irisin immunostaining was detected in the cytoplasm of stained cells; the cytoplasm of Purkinje cells was unstained. We found that irisin may be synthesized in many tissues. BACKGROUND: Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) results from food insufficiency as well as from poor social and economic conditions. Development of PEM is due to insufficient nutrition. Children with PEM lose their resistance to infections because of a disordered immune system. It has been reported that the changes occurring in mediators referred to as cytokines in the immune system may be indicators of the disorders associated with PEM. AIMS: To determine the concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines in children with PEM, and to find out whether there was an association with the clinical presentation of PEM. METHODS: The levels of serum total protein, albumin, tumour necrosis factor-alpha, and interleukin-6 were measured in 25 patients with PEM and in 18 healthy children as a control group. PEM was divided into two groups as kwashiorkor and marasmus. The kwashiorkor group consisted of 15 children and the marasmus group consisted of 10 children. RESULTS: Levels of serum total protein and albumin of the kwashiorkor group were significantly lower than both the marasmus group and controls (p < 0.05). In view of tumour necrosis factor-alpha levels, there was no difference between groups (p > 0.05). While levels of interleukin-6 in both the marasmus group and the kwashiorkor group were significantly higher compared with controls (p < 0.05), there was no significant difference between the groups of marasmus and kwashiorkor (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It was observed that the inflammatory response had increased in children with malnutrition. 相似文献

We assessed the time-dependent effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) and intravenous (i.v.) application of dexamethasone (Dexa) on the mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR) and total blood volume (TBV). We evaluated also the relation between the effects and immunoreactivities of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), epithelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), interleukin-1 beta (IL1-β) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in rat brain, lung and kidney tissues. Rats were anesthetized and while still breathing spontaneously, a tracheotomy and femoral vein and artery catheterizations were performed. To determine TBV using the hemodilution method, 2 ml albumin-electrolyte solutions were applied by i.v. injection. Group 1 (control group) received a 1 ml bolus injection of physiologic saline, Group 2 received 15 mg/kg and Group 3 received 75 mg/kg Dexa i.p. The hematocrit was measured at 10, 20, 60 and 120 min. For each animal, the values of MAP, HR and TBV were measured within 2 h. For immunohistochemical evaluation, anti-TGF-β, anti-eNOS, anti-IL1-β and anti-VEGF primary antibodies were tested using the avidin-biotin-peroxidase method. TBV was decreased in Group 1 and the increase in MAP was statistically significant. HR values increased slightly. None of the values changed significantly in Group 2. Although TBV was unchanged in Group 3, the decrease in MAP was statistically significant. HR values increased, but the increase was not statistically significant. Mild IL1-β immunoreactivity and moderate TGF-β, eNOS and VEGF immunoreactivities were observed in the brain, lung and kidney samples in Group 1. Increased eNOS immunoreactivity in the kidney samples were observed in Group 2. eNOS immunoreactivity was as strong in the brain and the kidney samples in Group 3. Decreased VEGF immunoreactivity was observed in the lung and kidney tissues in Group 3. Significantly decreased TGF-β immunoreactivity was observed in all tissue samples in Group 3. The decreased MAP values in Group 3 differed from those in Groups 1 and 2. Despite increased eNOS immunoreactivity, especially in brain and kidney, the decrease in VEGF immunoreactivity in Group 3, especially lung and kidney, were consistent with a drop in blood pressure. 相似文献
