The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Ramadan intermittent fasting (RIF) on the underlying mechanisms of force production capacity during maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) using the superimposed twitch technique. Ten healthy male physical education students performed three MVIC of the knee extensor superimposed with nerve electrical stimulation during four testing phases: one week before Ramadan (BR), at the end of the first week of Ramadan (R-1), during the fourth week of Ramadan (R-4) and two weeks after Ramadan (AR). This study was performed during Ramadan 2016. MVIC values, voluntary activation level (VAL), potentiated resting twitch and electromyography signals were recorded during each MVIC. The French version of the Profile of Mood States questionnaire (POMS-f) was used to evaluate the subjective mood states in each testing session. The results showed that MVIC values (890.57 ± 67.90 vs. 816.46 ± 54.72 N) and VAL (87.73 ± 3.27 vs. 77.32 ± 7.87%) decreased at R-1 compared to BR (p < 0.001). However, the neuromuscular efficiency and the potentiated resting twitch remained unchanged during Ramadan (R). Results showed that depression (p < 0.01; 6.3 ± 1.57 vs. 4.7 ± 1.25), fatigue (p < 0.001; 9.2 ± 1.93 vs. 4.6 ± 2.01) and anxiety (p < 0.001; 6.4 ± 1.51 vs. 11.8 ± 1.23) scores of POMS-f were higher during R-1 compared to BR. In conclusion, RIF-related impairment of maximal muscle force seems to be related to nervous alterations of the VAL, whereas the RIF did not adversely affect peripheral mechanisms.

ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to explore the effects of a single 10-mg dose of melatonin (MEL) administration after exhaustive late-evening exercise on sleep quality and quantity, and short-term physical and cognitive performances in healthy teenagers. Ten male adolescent athletes (mean ± SD, age = 15.4 ± 0.3 years, body-mass = 60.68 ± 5.7 kg, height = 167.9 ± 6.9 cm and BMI = 21.21 ± 2.5) performed two test sessions separated by at least one week. During each session, participants completed the Yo-Yo intermittent-recovery-test level-1 (YYIRT-1) at ~20:00 h. Then, sleep polysomnography was recorded from 22:15 min to 07:00 h, after a double blind randomized order administration of a single 10-mg tablet of MEL (MEL-10 mg) or Placebo (PLA). The following morning, Hooper wellness index was administered and the participants performed the Choice Reaction Time (CRT) test, the Zazzo test and some short-term physical exercises (YYIRT-1, vertical and horizontal Jumps (VJ; HJ), Hand grip strength (HG), and five-jump test (5-JT)). Evening total distance covered in the YYIRT-1 did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). Total sleep time (Δ = 24.55 mn; p < 0.001), sleep efficiency (Δ = 4.47%; p < 0.001), stage-3 sleep (N3 sleep) (Δ = 1.73%; p < 0.05) and rapid-eye-movement sleep (Δ = 2.15%; p < 0.001) were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. Moreover, sleep-onset-latency (Δ = –8.45mn; p < 0.001), total time of nocturnal awakenings after sleep-onset (NA) (Δ = –11 mn; p < 0.001), stage-1 sleep (N1 sleep) (Δ = –1.7%; p < 0.001) and stage-2 sleep (N2 sleep) (Δ = ?1.9%; p < 0.05) durations were lower with MEL. The Hooper index showed a better subjective sleep quality, a decrease of the subjective perception of fatigue and a reduced level of muscle soreness with MEL. Moreover, MEL improved speed and performance but not inaccuracy during the Zazzo test. CRT was faster with MEL. Morning YYIRT-1 (Δ = 82 m; p < 0.001) and 5-JT (Δ = 0.08 m; p < 0.05) performances were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. In contrast, HG, VJ and HJ performances did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). The administration of a single dose of MEL-10 mg after strenuous late-evening exercise improved sleep quality and quantity, selective attention, subjective assessment of the general wellness state, and some short-term physical performances the following morning in healthy teenagers. 相似文献
Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) including Graves disease (GD) and autoimmune hypothyroidism (AH) are associated with TNF genes polymorphisms. TNF molecules bind to TNFRI and TNFRII. No genetic association was reported between TNFR and AITDs. In this study, we have analysed two polymorphisms in TNFRI gene (TNFRI+36A/G SNP and a microsatellite (GT)17 (GA)n) and one polymorphism in TNFRII gene (TNFRII +676 T/G). All these polymorphisms were studied in a large Tunisian family with high prevalence of AITDs, and on a case-control sample of 91 GD patients and 165 controls. The present study was undertaken to investigate the genetic association of these polymorphisms with AITDs development. We reported the implication of TNFRIA3 allele in AITDs pathogenesis in familial and case control studies, respectively (χ2 = 4.13, p = 0.042; χ2 = 9.26, pc = 0.005). In addition, Case-control study has revealed for the first time that TNFRII+676G allele was associated with GD (χ2 = 11.53; p = 0.0007). Two TNFRI haplotypes were found to be associated with GD: TNFRI+36G-A8, TNFRI+36A-A3 (χ2 = 88.07; p = 6.32 × 10−21, χ2 = 16.78; p = 4.2 × 10−5, respectively). Our data showed that TNFRI polymorphisms have an important role in AITDs pathogenesis in both familial and case-control samples and that TNFRII was rather implicated in GD development in the Tunisian population. 相似文献
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of walnut consumption on lipid profile, steroid hormones and inflammation in trained elderly men performing concurrent (resistance and endurance) training. Twenty healthy elderly males were divided into two matched groups, in a randomized controlled trial, that trained three sessions per week: concurrent training + dietary walnut consumption (15 g/day for six weeks, CTW: n = 10); concurrent training + control diet (CT: n = 10). Fasting blood samples were taken 48 hours before and after intervention for biochemical assessments. levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) increased only in CTW compared to baseline (19.8%, p < 0.01). Total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglyceride (TG) levels significantly decreased only for CTW (i.e., 13%, 18%, and 18.5% at p < 0.01 for all). Testosterone (T) increased after the training compared to pre-training for CTW and CT (10.3%, p < 0.01, 4.27% p < 0.05, respectively), but the increase was significantly higher in CTW (p < 0.05). Serum cortisol (C) was lower for CTW compared to CT (p < 0.01). C-reactive protein (CRP) decreased in CTW in comparison with CT. The present study revealed that 6-week moderate walnut supplementation (15 g/day) improved lipid profile, steroid hormones and systematic inflammation in aged men performing concurrent training. These findings could be attributable to the potential effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) contained in walnut (linoleic acid, n-6; linolenic acid, n-3). 相似文献
The thyrotropin receptor (TSHR) has a unique 50 residue (317-366) ectodomain insertion that sets it apart from other glycoprotein hormone receptors (GPHRs). Other ancient members of the leucine-rich repeat G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) (LGR) family do exhibit ectodomain insertions of variable lengths and sequences. The TSHR-specific insert is digested, apparently spontaneously, to release the ectodomain (A-subunit) leaving the balance of the ectodomain attached to the serpentine (B-subunit). Despite concerted efforts for the last 12 years by many laboratories, the enzyme involved in TSHR cleavage has not been identified and a physiologic role for this process remains unclear. Several lines of evidence had suggested that the TSHR protease is likely a member of the a disintegrin and metalloprotease (ADAM) family of metalloproteases. We show here that the expression of ADAM10 was specific to the thyroid by specially designed DNA microarrays. We also show that TSH increases TSHR cleavage in a dose-dependent manner. To prove that ADAM10 is indeed the TSHR cleavage enzyme, we investigated the effect of TSH-induced cleavage by a peptide based on a motif (TSHR residues 334-349), shared with known ADAM10 substrates. TSH increased dose dependently TSHR ectodomain cleavage in the presence of wild-type peptide but not a scrambled control peptide. Interestingly, TSH increased the abundance of non-cleaved single chain receptor, as well higher molecular forms of the A-subunit, despite their enhancement of the appearance of the fully digested A-subunit. This TSH-related increase in TSHR digested forms was further increased by wild-type peptide. We have identified for the first time ADAM10 as the TSHR cleavage enzyme and shown that TSH regulates its activation. 相似文献
A general method is proposed for calculating approximate thresholds of interval mapping tests for quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection. Simulation results show that this method, when applied to backcross and F(2) populations, gives good approximations and is useful for any situation. Programs which calculate these thresholds for backcross, recombinant inbreds and F(2) for any given level and any chromosome with any given distribution of codominant markers were written in Fortran 77 and are available under request. The approach presented here could be used to obtain, after suitable calculations, thresholds for most segregating populations used in QTL mapping experiments. 相似文献
