Widespread distribution of deletions of the bgl operon in natural isolates of Escherichia coli 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A deletion that includes the bgl (beta-glucoside utilization) operon of
Escherichia coli was originally detected in several rarely occurring
natural isolates that utilize cellobiose. Here I show that bgl deletions
are present in 95% of the Cel+ isolates obtained from diverse sources. They
are also present in 29% of the Cel- strains in two different collections of
natural isolates of E. coli. At least three versions of bgl deletions are
present in E. coli populations. In the most common version approximately 8
kb of DNA around the bgl region of E. coli K12 is replaced by a specific
6.5-kb DNA fragment. In another version a deletion of similar length is not
replaced by the same sequence. A third version involves deletion of
approximately 14 kb without the replacement fragment being present. The
distribution of these deletions suggests that the version 1 deletion
occurred very early in the history of E coli. It also appears likely that
there is selection for bgl deletions in Cel+ strains of E. coli. The
presence of the version 1 deletion within distantly related phylogenetic
groups of E. coli provides evidence for recombination within natural
populations of E coli.

Relevance of mode coupling to energy/information transfer during protein function, particularly in the context of allosteric interactions is widely accepted. However, existing evidence in favor of this hypothesis comes essentially from model systems. We here report a novel formal analysis of the near‐native dynamics of myosin II, which allows us to explore the impact of the interaction between possibly non‐Gaussian vibrational modes on fluctutational dynamics. We show that an information‐theoretic measure based on mode coupling alone yields a ranking of residues with a statistically significant bias favoring the functionally critical locations identified by experiments on myosin II. The biological characteristics of eels from the Asi River, Turkey, were assessed between December 2017 and November 2018. Eels were sampled monthly using fyke nets (operated by professional fishermen), yielding a total of 509 specimens. Total length and weight were measured, sex, age and maturity stages (silver or yellow eel) were determined. Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) was calculated for both biomass per unit effort and numbers caught on a monthly and annual basis. The length-weight relationships (LWRs) of silver and yellow eel was W = 0.009*TL3.22 (n = 262) and W = 0.0106*L3.09 (n = 247), respectively. The age of the sampled fish ranged from year class II to VI. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L∞=69.25 cm, K = 0.43 1/year, t0= −0.41 and phi prime index ( ǿ )= 3.31 for all samples. The overall eel fishing mortality rate (F) was 0.31 year-1, and the exploitation and survival rates of silver stage eels were estimated with 30% and 39%, respectively. 相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of walnut consumption on lipid profile, steroid hormones and inflammation in trained elderly men performing concurrent (resistance and endurance) training. Twenty healthy elderly males were divided into two matched groups, in a randomized controlled trial, that trained three sessions per week: concurrent training + dietary walnut consumption (15 g/day for six weeks, CTW: n = 10); concurrent training + control diet (CT: n = 10). Fasting blood samples were taken 48 hours before and after intervention for biochemical assessments. levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) increased only in CTW compared to baseline (19.8%, p < 0.01). Total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglyceride (TG) levels significantly decreased only for CTW (i.e., 13%, 18%, and 18.5% at p < 0.01 for all). Testosterone (T) increased after the training compared to pre-training for CTW and CT (10.3%, p < 0.01, 4.27% p < 0.05, respectively), but the increase was significantly higher in CTW (p < 0.05). Serum cortisol (C) was lower for CTW compared to CT (p < 0.01). C-reactive protein (CRP) decreased in CTW in comparison with CT. The present study revealed that 6-week moderate walnut supplementation (15 g/day) improved lipid profile, steroid hormones and systematic inflammation in aged men performing concurrent training. The beneficial effect of garlic on cardiovascular disease is well known. However, the use of raw garlic against cardiac hypertrophy is not established. In the present study we explored whether raw garlic and its compound, diallyl disulfide (DADS) could inhibit hypertrophy through H2S and/or mitochondrial biogenesis. Cardiac hypertrophy was induced in rat by giving isoproterenol at the dose of 5 mg/kg/day subcutaneously for 14 days through alzet minipump. Aqueous garlic homogenate, DADS and NaHS (liberate H2S) were fed to third, forth and fifth group of rats for 14 days at a dose of 250 mg/kg/day, 50 mg/kg/day, 14 µM/kg/day respectively. Garlic and DADS reduced cardiac hypertrophy markers and normalized mitochondrial ETC-complex activities, mitochondrial enzyme activites and mitochondrial biogenetic and apoptotic genes expression. Garlic and DADS enhanced eNOS and p-AKT level in rat heart along with increased NRF2 protein level and Tfam gene expression. However, normalization was not observed after administration of NaHS which generates H2S in-vivo. In conclusion, garlic and DADS induces mitochondrial biogenesis and ameliorates cardiac hypertrophy via activation of eNOS-Nrf2-Tfam pathway in rats. 相似文献
