Background
Heterogeneity in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, especially among individuals with acute heart failure with normal left ventricular ejection fraction (HFNEF), can cause confusion in interpreting results. We investigated the characteristics of cases of acute HFNEF with only modestly elevated BNP.Methods
One hundred forty-two patients with acute or acute exacerbation of chronic HFNEF were divided into two groups by BNP level: BNP < 100 pg/ml (NB group, n = 45) and BNP ≥ 100 pg/ml (B group, n = 97). We compared clinical findings, echocardiography results, and neurohormonal factors between these two groups.Results
In the NB group, a history of open-heart surgery (OHS) was more frequent (71% vs. 22%, p < 0.0001) and hypertension was less frequent (p = 0.0005). Left atrial diameter (LAd) was higher (p = 0.0026), while interventricular septal thickness, posterior wall thickness, relative wall thickness, left ventricular mass index were lower (p = 0.0005, p = 0.0225, p = 0.0114, p = 0.0051, respectively) in the NB group. In patients with HFNEF, a history of OHS remained an independent predictor of BNP level (< 100 pg/ml) after adjustment for hypertension, age, LAd, and interventricular septal thickness (odds ratio 3.6, p = 0.0252).Conclusion
We found associations between acute HFNEF with less elevated BNP and a history of OHS. In a patient suspected of HFNEF, a history of OHS is considered diagnostic evidence of presence of diastolic heart failure when plasma levels of BNP are less elevated. 相似文献952.

Transgenic Arabidopsis lines (ecotype Col-0) carrying the Enterobacter agglomerans IaaspH gene under CaMV 35S promoter control were more sensitive to exogenous indole-3-acetyl aspartic acid (IAA-Asp) and metabolized [2'-14 C]IAA-Asp more rapidly than control lines. Free IAA, total IAA and IAN levels in independent transgenic lines that accumulated IaaspH mRNA varied insignificantly from control levels, yet IAA-Asp levels were significantly reduced. The transgenic lines were grown in a variety of conditions and subjected to morphometric analysis. All three lines showed statistically significant differences in rosette diameter (in soil), root and hypocotyl length (on agar). These effects were transient in some cases and did not manifest themselves under all growth conditions tried. The two independent lines with single T-DNA insertions had lower seed set compared to control lines. 相似文献

Mangrove sediment had high natural attenuation potential with more than 50% of total PAHs being removed within 15 days. The efficiency in degrading PAHs varied with the declining order of phenanthrene (Phe), fluoranthene (Fla), and pyrene (Pyr). The Most Probable Number (MPN) of PAH-degrading bacteria in the PAH-contaminated slurries was 2 to 4 orders of magnitude higher than that in the non-contaminated mangrove slurries. The biodegradation ability of the indigenous microbial community in mangrove sediment slurry was significantly increased after exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Such enhancement effect was dependent on the level and time of exposure, as well as the types of PAH compounds. The lowest contamination level of 3 mg kg?1 was effective in promoting the degradation of Phe and Fla after seven days, but the enhancement effect for Pyr degradation was only found in the slurries exposed to contamination levels of 9 mg kg?1 for 30 days, suggesting a threshold concentration of PAHs to stimulate growth and activity of pyrene-degrading bacteria. The contamination level higher than the threshold concentration did not lead to more degradation. Transient exposure of barley roots to Cd, IAA or H2O2 for 30 min resulted in a significant root growth inhibition. Cd significantly increased the GST activity of roots 6 h after the end of short-term treatment. This increase was more relevant in root segment containing differentiation zone than in root segment just immediately behind the root apex. In contrast to Cd treatment, the short-term exposure of barley roots to IAA resulted in a significant increase of GST activity along the whole root tip and this increase was detectable already 3 h after the treatment with 10 μM IAA. Similarly to IAA, exogenously applied 10 mM H2O2 for 30 min caused significant increase of GST activity along the whole root tip 6 h after the treatment. This increase was already detectable 3 h after the exposure, but only in the differentiation zone of root tip. Auxin influx or signalling inhibitor considerable decreased the Cd- or IAA-induced GST activity in barley root tips. The strong activation of GST even after a brief exposure of barley roots to Cd support the crucial role of GST in the Cd-induced stress response in which presumably IAA and H2O2 play an important signalling role including the activation of GST. 相似文献

Background
Order Charadriiformes (shorebirds) is an ideal model group in which to study a wide range of behavioural, ecological and macroevolutionary processes across species. However, comparative studies depend on phylogeny to control for the effects of shared evolutionary history. Although numerous hypotheses have been presented for subsets of the Charadriiformes none to date include all recognised species. Here we use the matrix representation with parsimony method to produce the first fully inclusive supertree of Charadriiformes. We also provide preliminary estimates of ages for all nodes in the tree.Results
Three main lineages are revealed: i) the plovers and allies; ii) the gulls and allies; and iii) the sandpipers and allies. The relative position of these clades is unresolved in the strict consensus tree but a 50% majority-rule consensus tree indicates that the sandpiper clade is sister group to the gulls and allies whilst the plover group is placed at the base of the tree. The overall topology is highly consistent with recent molecular hypotheses of shorebird phylogeny.Conclusion
The supertree hypothesis presented herein is (to our knowledge) the only complete phylogenetic hypothesis of all extant shorebirds. Despite concerns over the robustness of supertrees (see Discussion), we believe that it provides a valuable framework for testing numerous evolutionary hypotheses relating to the diversity of behaviour, ecology and life-history of the Charadriiformes.957.

The gem-disubstituted cyclotriphosphazene 1 reacted with piperazine (pip) to give the piperazine-bridged derivative 2, which is expected to exist in meso and racemic forms because the two PCl (pip) groups are stereogenic. The proton-decoupled (31)P NMR spectrum of 2 gave rise to two similar sets of ABX signals in a 1:1 ratio, consistent with formation of diastereoisomers. The meso and racemic forms of compound 2 were separated by column chromatography on silica gel and characterised by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, (31)P NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Using HPLC with a chiral stationary phase, the racemic form of compound 2 was further separated into enantiomers, which were characterised by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. This is the first report of the separation of enantiomers in the field of cyclophosphazene chemistry and hence the first CD spectra of derivatives in which the cyclophosphazene ring is at the chiral centre. 相似文献

Mangrove swamps are key ecosystems along the Vietnam coast. Although mangrove litter is thought to represent an important
input of organic matter and nutrients to the coastal aquatic systems, the factors determining the quality and size of this
litter flux have not been studied so far. We monitored leaf, stipule, twig, and reproductive litter monthly in monocultures
of Rhizophora apiculata mangrove forests of 7, 11, 17 and 24 years old in the Camau province, Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Litter traps were used to measure
litter fall production from June 2001 till May 2002. Total litter fall was in the range of 8.86–14.16 t DW ha−1 year−1. Leaves were the main component, and represented 70% of litter fall production in all stands. Total litter fall was lower
in the older stands but the amount of reproductive litter was significantly higher in these stands (17 and 24 years). Biomass
of leaf litter was highest between the end of the wet season and the beginning of the dry season. Phosphorus and nitrogen
levels in leaf litter were significantly higher in younger than in older stands. Overall, our study indicated that young stands
produced the highest input of litter and particularly of nitrogen and phosphorus to the surrounding aquatic system. Consequently,
