Time is an important currency for primate energetics, reproduction, and survival. Here, we describe the activity budgets of a group of southern muriquis (Brachyteles arachnoides) inhabiting the largest continuous fragment of Brazilian Atlantic Forest (210,000 ha) in Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho (24°44´–15´S, 47´46–10 W), in the southern region of São Paulo State. We collected instantaneous scan sampling data to assess monthly, seasonal, and between-year differences in time allocation for the different activities for 2 complete, nonconsecutive years—1995 and 2002—and compare these with measures of food availability. Over the 2 yr, the group rested on average for 48%, fed for 28%, traveled for 22.5%, and socialized for 1.5% of daylight hours. On a monthly basis, resting correlated negatively with traveling in 1995, and strongly negatively correlated with feeding for both years. Feeding correlated negatively with traveling in 2002, with significantly more time spent traveling during periods of higher young leaf availability. Season was a major influence on activity: the group rested more during the hotter, rainy austral summer season, whereas feeding occurred more frequently in the cooler, drier winter season. We found no consistent associations between food availability and the time that southern muriquis spent in most activities. We suggest that these southern muriquis, like many other large-bodied and atelin primates, minimize energy expenditure while maximizing energy intake, which may be associated with their ability to be folivorous when their preferred fruit foods are less available. They thus adopt a flexible energetic strategy for coping with variable climatic conditions rather than being constrained by food availability.  相似文献

Side-effects of three commonly used pesticides in Iran were evaluated on an introduced strain of the predatory mite. Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot, reared for about 10 years without exposure to any pesticides. Application of pesticides was carried out either to detached bean leaves using a Potter tower at 1 mg wet deposit per cm2 or by a hand sprayer on bean plants until run off. According to an EPPO decision making scheme, pirimiphos-methyl was found to be harmful (E=90.8%) and heptenophos harmless (E=-3.7%) to the predatory mite in the residual initial toxicity tests. For determination of the hazard class of malathion a field test was found to be necessary (E=59.8%). Categories of 1, 2, 3 were determined for heptenophos, malathion and primiphos-methyl, respectively, using IOBC classification. Despite being harmful, it is possible to use pirimiphos-methyl 10 days before release of P. persimilis. Investigation of the contribution of both lethal and sub-lethal effects to total impact indicated the dominance of lethality in the case of pirimiphos-methyl, while malathion acted by both mechanisms. Heptenophos did not have negative effects on fecundity of P. persimilis but rather caused a higher rate of fecundity in comparison with the control. The mortality found in the heptenophos test was not significantly different from the control.  相似文献

There is a poorly known rookery of green turtles (Chelonia mydas) nesting in sandy beaches of Chabahar town, northeastern Gulf of Oman, Iran.This study has been carried out to evaluate nesting activity of this small rookery in 2014 nesting season (June to October). In this study, total clutches were collected and transferred to an artificial hatchery. The peak of nesting occurred from the third parts of August to the end of September. Mean CCL was 106.3 ± 6 cm and mean CCW was 94.5 ± 5 cm. Females laid on average of 99.42 ± 47.8 eggs per clutch. The mean inter-nesting interval was 18.5 days. The observed clutch frequency was 3.4. Mean hatching success was 36.63 ± 4.1%. The incubation period was 61.07 ± 5.4 days. Nest status evaluation represented that major causes for the failure was unhatched egg with no obvious embryo followed by unhatched eggs with obvious but undeveloped embryos > unhatched eggs with developed embryos > hatched eggs but dead embryos. The results achieved in this study are a valuable contribution to cognition of the reproductive ecology of the green turtle population globally and regionally.  相似文献

Biological control agents can be used as a complementary control measure that can be combined with resistant host plants to control pests. In this study, the effects of different canola cultivars (Karaj-1, Karaj-2, Karaj-3, Licord, Okapi, Opera, RGS003, Sarigol, Talaye and Zarfam) on the performance and life table parameters of the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, and its parasitoid, Diaeretiella rapae, were determined under laboratory conditions. Total fecundity of the cabbage aphid differed with cultivar, with the highest value (59.41 nymphs per female) of this parameter observed on Opera and the lowest (1.67) observed on RGS003. The highest and lowest intrinsic rates of increase (r) of the cabbage aphid were observed on Opera (0.331 day?1) and RGS003 (? 0.242 day?1) cultivars, respectively, suggesting these to be the most susceptible and most resistant cultivars to this pest. However, because the aphid did not settle and feed well on RGS003, it was not possible to determine demographic parameters for its parasitoid. Consequently, the Okapi cultivar, which was the most resistant cultivar to the cabbage aphid after RGS003, was used in this study to assess the parasitoid wasp. The parasitoid’s intrinsic rate of increase (r) varied from 0.426 day?1 on the susceptible cultivar (Opera) to 0.341 day?1 on the resistant canola cultivar Okapi. Aphid performance decreased 93% on the resistant canola cultivar, while parasitoid performance decreased only 20% on the resistant cultivar compared to more susceptible cultivar.  相似文献

We compared the therapeutic effects of autologous and nonautologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell (ADMSC), in ameliorating the renal function in a rabbit model of acute pyelonephritis. The difference of perirenal and neck subcutaneous ADMSCs were also evaluated. Twenty female rabbits were apportioned to 5 groups. In group I (n = 4), the rabbits were injected direct inoculation of Escherichia coli (E. coli) into the right kidney. In group II (n = 4), autologous ADMSCs obtained from nape adipose tissue were injected into the subcapsular space 1 week after E. coli injection, while nonautologous ADMSCs of the same origin (from male rabbits) were applied in group III (n = 4). In group IV (n = 4), autologous perirenal ADMSCs were applied with the same method, while perirenal nonautologous ADMSCs from male rabbits were used in group V (n = 4). Technetium-99m-DMSA renal scan was performed 1, 2 and 4 months post-injection in all groups. Kidneys were excised for the evaluation of histopathological changes in the same time points. PCR examination for detection of Y-chromosome (in group III and V) and fluorescent evaluation (in group II and IV) were also performed to determine the fate of injected cells. Injection of autologous ADMSCs resulted in more satisfactory outcomes in reduction of interstitial fibrosis, tubular, and glomerular atrophy as compared to nonautologous groups. However, histopathological ameliorations were significantly better in group IV in which autologous perirenal ADMSC was applied. Remarkably, two months after the injection, Technetium-99m-DMSA renal scan showed that right kidney reached to near normal cortical function (48 and 45%) in group IV and V, respectively as compared to groups II (41%) and III (37%). Autologous ADMSCs may have better results in cell therapy as compared to nonautologous cells. However, more satisfactory outcomes may be obtained when the cell source is selected from the surrounding adipose tissue.  相似文献

Drought is the major constraint to chickpea productivity worldwide. Utilizing early flowering genotypes and larger seed size have been suggested as strategies for breeding in drought zones. Therefore, this study aimed to identify potential markers linked to days-to-flowering, 100-seed weight, and plant height in a chickpea intraspecific F2:3 population derived from the cross ILC3279 × ICCV2. A closely linked marker (TA117) on linkage group LG3 was identified for the days-to-flowering trait, explaining 33% of the variation. In relation to plant height, a quantitative trait loci (QTL) was located in LG3, close to the Ts5 marker, that explained 29% of phenotypic variation. A QTL for 100-seed weight located in LG4, close to TA176, explained 51% of variation. The identification of a locus linked both to high 100-seed weight and days-to-flowering may account for the correlation observed between these traits in this and other breeding attempts.  相似文献

Chloroplast DNA has been used extensively to analyze plant phylogenies at different taxonomic levels because of its size, organization and sequence conservation. In the present research, two chloroplastic regions, petApsaJ, trnCtrnD and four DNA barcodes (trnHpsbA, ITS, rbcL, matK), were used to introduce suitable regions for the assessment of genetic diversity among P. granatum L. genotypes. Analysis of psbEpetL in petApsaJ region revealed 1,300 nucleotides with 4.29 % genetic diversity among genotypes, while trnCpetN in trnCtrnD region showed 1.8 % genetic diversity. Therefore, despite the results obtained from the study of other plants, the trnCtrnD region had a low potential for the evaluation of diversity among pomegranate genotypes. Analysis of DNA barcodes in pomegranate showed that trnHpsbA (genetic diversity 2.91 %) provides the highest intra-species variation, followed by ITS (genetic diversity 0.44 %). Eighteen genotypes from different geographical origins of Iran were used to investigate psbEpetL and trnHpsbA potential as novel barcodes to determine genetic polymorphism and characterize pomegranate genotypes. The results suggested that two regions, psbEpetL and trnHpsbA, were more suitable for determining intra-species relationships of pomegranate.  相似文献

Morphological traits and three molecular markers techniques: start codon targeted (SCoT), inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) and directly amplified minisatellite DNA (DAMD) markers were compared for fingerprinting of 40 landraces chickpea genotypes collected from different geographical locations of north-west of Iran. Variance analysis of ten measured morphological traits showed significant differences existed between genotypes. Cluster analysis based on morphological traits, divided genotypes in three distinct clusters. Average polymorphism information content (PIC) for ISSR, DAMD and SCoT markers was 0.216, 0.232 and 0.232, respectively, and this revealed that SCoT markers were more informative, followed by ISSRs marker, than other markers for the assessment of diversity amongst genotypes. Cluster analysis for three different molecular types revealed that genotypes taken for the analysis can be divided in three and four distinct clusters. Accessions from same geographical regions mostly showed more genetic similarities than those from origins far isolated apart. These results suggest that efficiency of SCOT, DAMD and ISSR markers was relatively the same in fingerprinting of genotypes but SCOT and DAMD analysis are more effective in fingerprinting of chickpea genotypes. To our knowledge, this is the first detailed report of a comparison of performance among two targeted DNA region molecular markers (SCoT and DAMD) and the ISSR technique on a set of samples of chickpea. Overall, our results indicate that SCOT, ISSR and DAMD fingerprinting could be used to detect polymorphism for genotypes of chickpea.  相似文献

The genus Linum L. (Lineacea) has over 15 species, subspecies or ecotypes in Iran. These species show extensive geographical distribution and form many local populations throughout the country. Linum album is herbaceous medicinal plant containing important lignans such as podophyllotoxin (PTOX) and 6-methoxy podophyllotoxin (MPTOX), which have antiviral and anticancer properties. Studying the genetic and morphological diversity of different geographical populations produces detailed knowledge about population divergence and identification of the infra-species taxa if at all they are present. Moreover, the populations that differ in their genetic content and structure may also differ in their chemical and medicinal properties. The present study considers morphological and genetic diversity analyses of 20 L. album geographical populations by using nuclear ISSR markers, genome size, and cytogenetic characteristics. These populations differed significantly in many of their quantitative morphological characters and in some of their qualitative features. They also differed significantly in their molecular characteristics and genome size. Details of morphological and molecular variations are reported and discussed.  相似文献
