Aspergillus taichungensis isolated from a soil sample collected in Taiwan is described as a new species. The new species is characterized by its restricted growth on Czapek's and malt extract agars and its white to light yellow colonies, radiate conidial heads, smooth and often diminutive conidiophores, hemispherical to elongate vesicles with biseriate aspergilla (conidiogenous cells), globose, micro-verrucose conidia and dark brown sclerotia. The species somewhat resemblesA. versicolor, A. terreus andA. flavipes, but differs in cultural and morphological details, and is considered to represent an interface species in the subgenusNidulantes. 相似文献

The basement membrane (BM) proteins laminins, which consist of alpha, beta and gamma chains, play critical roles in the maintenance of tissue structures. One of laminin alpha chains, alpha3 has two isoforms, the truncated form alpha3A and the full-sized form alpha3B. In contrast to alpha3A laminins, little is known about alpha3B laminins. To show the histological distribution of the laminin alpha3B chain, we prepared alpha3B-specific monoclonal antibodies. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the alpha3B chain was colocalized with the alpha3A, beta3 and gamma2 chains in the epithelial BMs of the skin, esophagus, breast and lung, suggesting the presence of laminin-3B32 (laminin-5B) and laminin-3A32 (laminin-5A). In the lung alveoli, laminin-3B32 was dominant over laminin-3A32, but vice versa in other epithelial BMs. In contrast, the BMs of blood vessels including capillaries were strongly positive for alpha3B, but almost or completely negative for alpha3A, beta3 and gamma2. alpha3B was colocalized with beta1 and gamma1 in these BMs. The alpha3B chain was scarcely detected in the vessels of malignant skin cancers, though the gamma2 and beta3 chains were highly expressed in the cancer cells. These results strongly suggest that the laminin alpha3B chain is widely expressed in vascular BMs of normal tissues, probably as laminin-3B11/3B21 (laminin-6B/7B). 相似文献

In recent years, the effects of smoking and excessive alcohol consumption on immune function have been studied, due to a high prevalence of infection or cancer in heavy drinkers, and the combination of smoking and drinking was considered to be a carcinogenic risk. However, the effect of smoking and drinking on systemic immune function has yet to be clearly understood. In this study, we investigated neutrophil functions (reactive oxygen species (ROS) productive activity, phagocytic ability and serum opsonic activity) and their relationship with alcohol consumption or amount of smoking. In total there were 731 male and female adult subjects who participated in the Iwaki Health Promotion Project in 2005. Multiple regression analysis showed a trend of increased ROS production in male subjects and a statistically significant decrease was observed in phagocytic activity caused by smoking in female subjects. In other words, oxidative stress caused by smoking in male subjects may be involved in ROS production from neutrophils. Decreased phagocytic activity of neutrophils caused by smoking suggests that host defense functions were impaired in female subjects. Summary In order to examine its clinical efficacy, recombinant human interferon- (rIFN-) was instilled intravesically into 51 patients with superficial bladder cancer. Ten patients, who received intermittent intravesical instillation at a dose of (3–36) × 106 U rIFN- on days 1–3 every week, showed no response. Thirty-two patients received intravesical instillation at a dose of (3–36) × 106 U every day for 10–20 days. Eight patients showed partial response, indicating an efficacy rate of 25%. Nine patients received divided doses of 18 × 106 U twice a day every day for 10–20 days. Six patients showed partial response, indicating an efficacy rate of 67%. This value was significantly higher than that obtained by administering divided doses. The response to intravesical instillation therapy with rIFN- varies with treatment protocol. Frequent and longer exposure to rIFN- may induce better regression of superficial bladder cancer. Six incidences of side-effects were found in five cases (9.8%): pollakiuria in one, pain on micturition in two, fever in two, and eruption in one case. All of these side-effects were slight and reversible after drug withdrawal. Laboratory tests showed only a few changes with low severity. Thus, rIFN- is potentially a new drug for instillation therapy of superficial bladder cancer, in view of the absence of adverse effects. 相似文献

Two polypeptide isoforms of myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) with molecular masses of 72 and 67 kDa are produced by alternative splicing of the exon 12 portion. Our previous work has demonstrated that in the quaking mouse brain this alternative splicing is lacking and that the mRNA coding the large MAG isoform (L-MAG) is scarcely expressed, whereas that of small MAG isoform (S-MAG) is overexpressed. In the present study, we prepared antisera specific to the S-MAG and L-MAG amino acid residues, respectively. Immunoblots showed that the L-MAG band was scarcely detectable in the quaking mouse brain, whereas the S-MAG band had an apparently higher molecular mass than in the normal control. Our immunohistochemical study also showed that L-MAG was scarcely stained in the quaking mouse brain. These results seemed to reflect a reduction in content of L-MAG mRNA and abnormal glycosylation in the quaking mouse brain. 相似文献

Calcification processes are largely unknown in scleractinian corals. In this study, live confocal imaging was used to elucidate the spatiotemporal dynamics of the calcification process in aposymbiotic primary polyps of the coral species Acropora digitifera. The fluorophore calcein was used as a calcium deposition marker and a visible indicator of extracellular fluid distribution at the tissue-skeleton interface (subcalicoblastic medium, SCM) in primary polyp tissues. Under continuous incubation in calcein-containing seawater, initial crystallization and skeletal growth were visualized among the calicoblastic cells in live primary polyp tissues. Additionally, the distribution of calcein-stained SCM and contraction movements of the pockets of SCM were captured at intervals of a few minutes. Our experimental system provided several new insights into coral calcification, particularly as a first step in monitoring the relationship between cellular dynamics and calcification in vivo. Our study suggests that coral calcification initiates at intercellular spaces, a finding that may contribute to the general understanding of coral calcification processes. 相似文献
