Riverine transport of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) from land to the ocean is an important carbon flux that influences the carbon budget at the watershed scale. However, the dynamics of DIC in an entire river network has remained unknown, especially in mountainous Japanese watersheds. We examined the effects of watershed land use and geology on the transports of inorganic carbon as well as weathered silica (Si) and calcium (Ca) in the Iwaki River system where agricultural and residential areas have developed in the middle and lower parts of the watershed. The concentration and stable carbon isotope ratios (δ13C) of DIC showed the longitudinal increase of 13C-depleted inorganic carbon along the river. As a result, most streams and rivers were supersaturated in dissolved CO2 that will eventually be emitted to the atmosphere. The possible origin of 13C-depleted carbon is CO2 derived from the decomposition of organic matter in agricultural and urban landscapes, as well as from in-stream respiration. In addition, agricultural and urban areas, respectively, exported the large amount of dissolved Si and Ca to the rivers, suggesting that CO2 increased by respiration accelerates the chemical weathering of silicate and carbonate materials in soils, river sediments, and/or urban infrastructure. Furthermore, riverine bicarbonate flux is likely to enter shell carbonates of Corbicula japonica, an aragonitic bivalve, in the downstream brackish lake (Lake Jusan). These results revealed that the flux of DIC from the human-dominated watersheds is a key to understanding the carbon dynamics and food-web structure along the land-to-river-to-ocean continuum. 相似文献

The bony falx (BF) and bony tentorium (BT) of spotted dolphins ( Stenella attenuata ) at different growth stages were observed. The BF and BT were observed to have the shape of the entire falx cerebri (FC) and tentorium cerebelli (TC), respectively, in adults, but were not seen in fetuses at all. Partially formed BF and BT were observed in the young. The BF and BT of spotted dolphins are formed by ossification in the FC and TC in the course of aging. Based on age determination by means of dentinal growth layers of the maxillary teeth, the ossification in the FC and TC of spotted dolphins begins by about 1 yr of age, and is completed, except for the passage of nerves and blood vessels, by about 9 yr of age. The BF and BT of spotted dolphins are formed possibly by continual dietary intake of large amounts of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D. 相似文献

A novel mitochondrial DNA point mutation, a C-to-A mutation at nucleotide position (np) 11,777, was identified in two unrelated patients out of 100 with Leigh syndrome. This mutation converted a highly evolutionary conserved arginine to a serine at codon 340 in ND4 gene. This codon was also converted by a G-to-A mutation at np 11,778, the most common mutation associated with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), but the amino acid replacement was different (R340S vs. R340H). Cybrid study revealed that the percentage of heteroplasmy was correlated with complex I function and that the novel mutation caused a much more deleterious effect than the np 11,778 LHON mutation in complex I activity. 相似文献

The amino acid sequence of the ubiquinone binding protein (QP-C) in the cytochrome bc1 region of the mitochondrial electron transfer chain was determined by analysis of peptides obtained by cyanogen bromide cleavage and staphylococcal protease digestion of succinylated derivatives. It was found to consist of 110 amino acid residues and its amino terminus to be blocked by an acetyl group, as determined by mass spectrometry of the amino-terminal peptide and a comparison with peptides chemically synthesized on high-performance liquid chromatography. The molecular weight of this ubiquinone binding protein including the acetyl group was calculated to be 13,389. The predicted secondary structure of QP-C has alpha-helical content of about 50% and QP-C was classified as an "all-alpha" or "alpha + beta" protein. This is the first report describing the amino acid sequence of the ubiquinone binding protein. A comparison of this sequence with that of the 14-kDa subunit of the yeast ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase complex from the nucleotide sequence showed these two sequences to be quite similar. 相似文献

Spores ofAdiantum capillus-veneris L., which were preincubated at 25 C for three days in the dark, were suspended in 1 mM potassium phosphate buffer, pH 6.0,
and incubated for four days under continuous red light in the presence or absence of 3 mM sulfite. At day 0, 2 and 4 of the
incubation, contents of cell constituents were determined. Total lipid content decreased continuously over four days of incubation
in the absence of sulfite or in the presence of 3 mM sulfate. In contrast, when sulfite was added to the medium, the decrease
stopped after day 2. The content of insoluble glucan increased markedly between day 2 and 4 in the medium without sulfite,
whereas it decreased continuously for four days in the medium containing sulfite. The protein content decreased promptly by
day 2, but its decrease was delayed when 3 mM sulfite was added to the medium. The content of amino acids also decreased by
day 2, but it increased thereafter in the absence of sulfite or in the presence of 3 mM sulfate. In the presence of sulfite,
however, the content continued to decrease until day 4. The results indicate that 3 mM sulfite in the incubation medium depressed
the utilization of reserve lipid and protein, the synthesis of insoluble glucan and the increase of amino acid pool sizes

In SE Asian rain forests, general flowering, a community-wide synchronous flowering, occurs at irregular and supra-annual intervals. During general flowering periods (GFP), most Dipterocarpaceae and many other trees flower profusely, while flowering plants are scant between GFP. During flowerless periods, anthophilous animals that depend on floral resources for food may suffer food shortages and subsequently decrease in abundance. Flower-visiting chrysomelid adults are major pollinators for some canopy tree species that flower during GFP. Although such chrysomelids feed on flower petals, the means by which they survive flowerless periods remains unknown. We determined the abundance of flower-visiting chrysomelids in GFP and non-GFP through light trap samples and examined the effects of the presence of young leaves and flowers of dipterocarps on local abundance, and feeding preferences of flower-visiting chrysomelids. We found no clear tendency that the chrysomelid species number and the abundance during GFP were consistently higher than those during non-GFP. Chrysomelid adults were more abundant on trees with many young leaves or flowers than on trees lacking young leaves and flowers. At least a few flower-visiting chrysomelids were observed feeding on young dipterocarp leaves and visiting young leaves and flowers of non-dipterocarps in the canopy during non-GFP. All results consistently suggest that chrysomelids are able to survive flowerless periods by feeding on the young leaves of dipterocarps and on the young leaves and flowers of non-dipterocarps; through this alternate feeding, chrysomelid populations are maintained at sufficient levels to function as effective pollinators of trees that flower during GFP. 相似文献

BackgroundPsoriasis vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with an immune-genetic background. It has been reported as an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) in the United States and Europe. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between psoriasis and CHD in a hospital-based population in Japan.MethodsFor 113,065 in-hospital and clinic patients at our institution between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2013, the diagnostic International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes for CHD, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and psoriasis vulgaris were extracted using the medical accounting system and electronic medical record, and were analyzed.ResultsThe prevalence of CHD (n = 5,167, 4.5%), hypertension (n = 16,476, 14.5%), dyslipidemia (n = 9,236, 8.1%), diabetes mellitus (n = 11,555, 10.2%), and psoriasis vulgaris (n = 1,197, 1.1%) were identified. The prevalence of CHD in patients with hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and psoriasis vulgaris were 21.3%, 22.2%, 21.1%, and 9.0%, respectively. In 1,197 psoriasis patients, those with CHD were older, more likely to be male, and had more number of the diseases surveyed by ICD-10 codes. Multivariate analysis showed that psoriasis vulgaris was an independent associated factor for CHD (adjusted odds ratio [OR]: 1.27; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01–1.58; p = 0.0404) along with hypertension (adjusted OR: 7.78; 95% CI: 7.25–8.36; p < 0.0001), dyslipidemia (adjusted OR: 2.35; 95% CI: 2.19–2.52; p < 0.0001), and diabetes (adjusted OR: 2.86; 95% CI: 2.67–3.06; p < 0.0001).ConclusionPsoriasis vulgaris was independently associated with CHD in a hospital-based population in Japan. 相似文献

Impact of engagement of FcepsilonRI and CC chemokine receptor 1 on mast cell activation and motility

CC chemokines participate in the recruitment and activation of immune cells through CC chemokine receptors (CCRs). Here, we report that cross-talk between CCR1-mediated signaling pathway and FcepsilonRI-mediated signaling pathway affects degranulation positively but affects chemotaxis of mast cells adversely. Costimulation via FcepsilonRI engagement with IgE/antigen and CCR1 engagement with recombinant human CCL3 synergistically enhanced degranulation in rat basophilic leukemia-2H3 cells expressing human CCR1 (RBL-CCR1). Interestingly, FcepsilonRI engagement inhibited CCL3-mediated chemotaxis and membrane ruffling of RBL-CCR1 cells. Small GTP-binding proteins of the Rho family, Rac, Cdc42, and Rho control chemotaxis by mediating the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. Both a Rho inhibitor C3 exoenzyme and a Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y-27632 inhibited chemotaxis of RBL-CCR1 cells toward CCL3, indicating that activation of the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway is required for the CCL3-mediated chemotaxis of the cells. Costimulation with IgE/antigen and CCL3 enhanced Rac and Cdc42 activation but decreased ROCK activation in RBL-CCR1 cells compared with that in the cells stimulated with CCL3 alone. These results suggest that costimulation via FcepsilonRI and CCR1 engagements induced 1) inhibition of membrane ruffling, 2) decreased ROCK activation, and 3) reciprocal imbalance between Small GTP-binding proteins of the Rho family, which result in the inhibition of chemotaxis of RBL-CCR1 cells. The cross-talk between FcepsilonRI-mediated signaling pathway and CCR-mediated signaling pathway would induce optimal activation and arrested chemotaxis of mast cells, thus contributing to allergic inflammation. 相似文献
