The purposes of this study were to estimate the heritabilities of several human dental arch dimensions and compare the hereditary differences among kinships and among variables. The sample consisted of 102 Japanese families, each including both parents and one of their offspring, and on average all subjects had relatively well-aligned permanent dentitions. The heritabilities of all variables were estimated from the regression of offspring on parent and on midparent. Results showed that genetics played a role regarding dental arch dimensions, and arch perimeter (sum of tooth width) was a more definite genetic-related factor than other arch dimensions, such as width, length, or size. There were few significant hereditary differences between sons and daughters, and between upper and lower arches for each variable. Sex chromosomal involvement was not confirmed, but maternal effects were found to be more evident in daughters than in sons, for both arches. Comparisons among the heritabilities of overall and of anterior arch dimensions indicated that size of the anterior part of the dental arch might be less resistant to environmental factors, especially in case of the lower arch.  相似文献

Lympho-stromal interactions in multiple microenvironments within the thymus have a crucial role in the regulation of T-cell development and selection. Recent studies have implicated that chemokines that are produced by thymic stromal cells have a pivotal role in positioning developing T cells within the thymus. In this Review, I discuss the importance of stroma-derived chemokines in guiding the traffic of developing thymocytes, with an emphasis on the processes of cortex-to-medulla migration and T-cell-repertoire selection, including central tolerance.  相似文献

A novel GGNG-related neuropeptide from the polychaete Perinereis vancaurica   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The GGNG peptides are myoactive peptides so far identified from earthworms and leeches, which are the earthworm excitatory peptides (EEP) and the leech excitatory peptide (LEP), respectively. A novel GGNG peptide was isolated and structurally determined from a marine polychaete, Perinereis vancaurica, using a combination of immunological assay and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The peptide was a pentadecapeptide whose amino acid sequence was similar to that of EEP and LEP, and showed myoactivity on isolated esophagus of P. vancaurica with a threshold concentration of 10(-10)M. The peptide was designated as polychaete excitatory peptide (PEP). Amidation of the alpha-carboxyl group of C-terminal residue occurred in PEP. This is the case for LEP, but not for EEP. The cDNA cloning revealed that the structure of the PEP precursor is more similar to the EEP precursor than to the LEP precursor. Immunohistochemical staining showed the presence of PEP in several neurons of central nervous system (CNS) as somata and neuropile structure, epithelial cells of the pharynx and epidermal cells throughout the body wall. Altogether these results support the physiological significance of PEP in regulation of the CNS neural activity and the peripheral myoactivity.  相似文献

In crayfish photoreceptor cells, Gq-type G-protein plays a central role in the phototransduction pathway, and the translocation of Gqα has been proposed as one of the molecular mechanisms to control photoreceptor sensitivity. We here investigated β subunit of Gq and its localization profiles under various light conditions in the crayfish photoreceptor cells to understand the functional characteristic of visual Gq in the phototransduction pathway. An immunoprecipitation experiment was performed using an anti-Gqα antibody and a thiol-cleavable crosslinker. A 39 kDa protein was co-immunoprecipitated with Gqα, but not by irradiation, in the presence of GTPγS. The partial amino acid sequence of the 39 kDa protein was similar to Gβe in Drosophila photoreceptors, indicating that the crayfish Gβ which combines with Gqα is a Gβe homologue. Immunohistochemical and immunoblot analyses revealed that the amount of the Gβ decreased in the rhabdomeric membranes and increased in the cytoplasm in the light, compared with that in the dark. The profile of the translocation was similar to that reported for Gqα. Since both α and βγ subunits are necessary for G-proteins to be activated by rhodopsin in the rhabdom, the light-modulated translocation of a Gβe homologue possibly controls the amount of Gq which can be activated by light-stimulated rhodopsin. The transmission profiles of sperm mtDNA introduced into fertilized eggs were examined in detail in F1 hybrids of mouse interspecific crosses by addressing three aspects. The first is whether the leaked paternal mtDNA in fertilized eggs produced by interspecific crosses was distributed stably to all tissues after the eggs'' development to adults. The second is whether the leaked paternal mtDNA was transmitted to the subsequent generations. The third is whether paternal mtDNA continuously leaks in subsequent backcrosses. For identification of the leaked paternal mtDNA, we prepared total DNA samples directly from tissues or embryos and used PCR techniques that can detect a few molecules of paternal mtDNA even in the presence of 10(8)-fold excess of maternal mtDNA. The results showed that the leaked paternal mtDNA was not distributed to all tissues in the F1 hybrids or transmitted to the following generations through the female germ line. Moreover, the paternal mtDNA leakage was limited to the first generation of an interspecific cross and did not occur in progeny from subsequent backcrosses. These observations suggest that species-specific exclusion of sperm mtDNA in mammalian fertilized eggs is extremely stringent, ensuring strictly maternal inheritance of mtDNA.  相似文献

Mechanisms of oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) in leaves ofVicia faba have not yet been elucidated in details. The author hypothesized its oxidation by radicals of hydroxycinnamic acid esters that were generated by a peroxidase-dependent reaction in vacuoles. The results obtained in this study were followings. 1) Vacuolar peroxidase isolated from the leaves oxidized dopa more slowly than 4-coumaric and caffeic acid esters isolated from the leaves. 2) The hydroxycinnamic acid esters enhanced peroxidase-dependent oxidation of dopa and dopa suppressed their oxidation. 3) Degree of the enhancement was roughly correlated with rates of the oxidation of hydroxycinnamic acid esters. 4) The hydroxycinnamic acid esters increased levels of dopa radical in the presence of peroxidase. 5) In protoplasts of mesophyll cells ofV. faba, hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidation of dopa was faster than that of 4-coumaric acid and caffeic acid esters. These results support the above hypothesis that dopa in vacuoles is oxidized by phenoxyl radicals of hydroxycinnamic acid esters that are generated by vacuolar peroxidase.  相似文献

The effect of ß-carotene on light-induced lipid peroxidationwas examined in heptane-extracted chloroplasts. Lipid peroxidationwas suppressed by 50% when the extracted chloroplasts were reconstitutedwith ß-carotene. However, ß-carotene addedto unextracted chloroplasts did not affect the lipid peroxidation.As the molal ratio of ß-carotene to chlorophyll duringthe reconstitution increased, the rate of the lipid peroxidationdecreased but became independent of the molal ratio above thevalue of 0.3. The results led to the conclusion that ß-carotenein thylakoid membranes functions as an efficient quencher ofsinglet molecular oxygen which induces the lipid peroxidation. A method for the simultaneous analysis of pipecolic acid and proline in the brain is developed. The qualification and quantification of pipecolic acid and proline are accomplished with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry including a selected ion-monitoring technique by using deuterium-labeled proline as an internal standard, after the amino and carboxylic groups of these cyclic amino acids are derivatized with boron trifluoride methanol complex and heptafluorobutyric anhydride. The lower limit of quantification for the method is picomole levels and the concentration of pipecolic acid and proline in rat whole brain is determined to be 1.05 and 71.50 nmol/g of tissue, respectively.  相似文献
