Qβ-REPLICASE was isolated from E. coli infected with the RNA bacteriophage Qβ as RNA-dependent RNA polymerase which had template specificity1. RNA phage SP2, which is distinct from RNA phages isolated previously3,4, has been isolated in our laboratory and SP-replicase5 was purified from E. coli infected with SP-phage. SP-replicase has a template specificity different from that of Qβ-replicase. By using this new RNA-replicase, comparison between two distinct replicases has become possible. 相似文献

The responses of Australians and Japanese to the sweetness of 36 products from 6 food categories, namely beverages, biscuits, cereals, chocolates, fruit juices and jams were compared using 'sweetness liking', 'sweetness strength' and 'sweetness just right' scales. Similar responses were obtained for the two panels with jams and fruit juices, but considerable disagreement particularly as regards 'sweetness liking' occurred with beverages, biscuits and chocolates where there was evidence that familiarity with the products influenced sweetness responses. Where it was possible to compare the 'sweetness strength' of similar products from each country, e.g., strawberry jam, there were no obvious differences. The sweetness of products from both countries covered a wide range of levels, and liking for sweetness levels appeared to be dependent on the context of the product and familiarity with the product. Prediction of liking for the sweetness level of a particular product does not appear possible and it is clear that with a significant number of products from either country that modification of sweetness levels would be necessary for acceptance by the other culture. 相似文献

Cadmium (Cd) accumulations in a Cd hyper‐accumulator fern, Athyrium yokoscense (Ay), and tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum (Nt), were kinetically analysed using the positron‐emitting tracer imaging system under two medium conditions (basal and no‐nutrient). In Ay, maximumly 50% and 15% of the total Cd accumulated in the distal roots and the shoots under the basal condition, respectively. Interestingly, a portion of the Cd in the distal roots returned to the medium. In comparison with Ay, a little fewer Cd accumulations in the distal roots and clearly higher Cd migration to the shoots were observed in Nt under the basal condition (maximumly 40% and 70% of the total Cd, respectively). The no‐nutrient condition down‐regulated the Cd migration in both species, although the regulation was highly stricter in Ay than in Nt (almost no migration in Ay and around 20% migration in Nt). In addition, the present work enabled to estimate physical and physiological Cd accumulation capacities in the distal roots, and demonstrated condition‐dependent changes especially in Ay. These results clearly suggested occurrences of species‐/condition‐specific regulations in each observed parts. A transient increase in protein synthesis was observed in mitochondria at the mesenchyme blastula stage of sea urchin ( Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus ) embryos. This stimulated activity was inhibited by chloramphenicol but not by cycloheximide. Reconstituting experiments in which poly U-dependent protein synthesis was carried out showed the mitochondrial peptide elongation factor to be essential for increasing the protein synthetic activity in mesenchyme blastula, but aminoacyl tRNA synthetase and ribosome fraction containing initiation factor not to be involved in this increase.
