Mirror carp were infected with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Fouquet) under standardized conditions. The size and number of parasites at selected sites on the body were recorded during the course of the infection. Initial exposure to 40 mature parasites resulted in a mild infection with 100% recovery after 18 days. Recovered fish did not appear to be carriers of the parasite. Exposure to 400 parasites resulted in 100% mortality between 22–25 days. The growth rate of the parasite was linear. Parasites were more numerous in the dorsal surface of the fish than in the lateral or ventral surface. The increase in parasite numbers during the disease was greater in the gills than in the skin.  相似文献

Abstract— 2-Hydroxy-, 2-chloro-, 2- and Cmethyl-GABA are linear competitive inhibitors of GABA uptake in rat brain slices. These analogues are thus potential substrates for the GABA transport system and possible'false transmitters'. 2-Hydroxy-GABA is the most potent inhibitor of GABA uptake yet described. No specific inhibitor of GABA uptake was revealed amongst the drugs tested.  相似文献

The activities of alkaline phosphatase and reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) diaphorase in the principal cells of the guinea pig epididymis were studied histochemically. Alkaline phosphatase activity was absent from the principal cells but was present in the basement membrane of the epididymal epithelium. NADH diaphorase activity was distributed throughout the cytoplasm of the principal cells in each epididymal segment. There was a gradual increase in NADH diaphorase activity from segments 1 through 7. Possible functions of alkaline phosphatase and NADH diaphorase in the epididymis are discussed.  相似文献

Summary Profiles of potassium activity and electrical potential in the vacuoles of cells across the intact root of Helianthus annuus have been measured. No gradient in either potassium activity or potential difference was detected from epidermis to pericycle. The trans-root electrical potential was found to be made up of two components, a large P.D. between the outside solution and the outer cells and a small P.D. at the pericycle-xylem interface. The results indicated that all the living cells of the root have the same capacity to actively accumulate potassium.  相似文献

AS it is not widely appreciated that diffusion within complex media can be strikingly and often qualitatively different from that in simple liquids such as water, there is confusion concerning transport processes across biological membranes1,2.
