Distribution of strains of spore-forming bacteria of the genus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Bacillus</Emphasis> in the bottom sediments of Lake Khubsugul in Northern Mongolia as an indication of paleoclimate

Data on the distribution and abundance of bacteria of the genus Bacillus in the bottom sediments of Lake Khubsugul have shown the predominance of strains that preferred low temperatures. This indicates fairly cold temperature conditions on the territory of the Khubsugul drainage area. On the whole, the dynamics of interchange of minimums and maximums of abundance of bacteria of the genus Bacillus is similar to the global climate fluctuations. Study of the enzymatic activity of pure cultures revealed that most strains studied possessed proteolytic activity; consequently, the dynamics of bacteria development is correlated with the supply of organic nitrogen-containing compositions.

The synthesis of iron (III) ethoxide revisited: Characterization of the metathesis products of iron (III) halides and sodium ethoxide

Interaction of FeX₃, X = Cl, Br with 3 equiv. of NaOEt in toluene/ethanol media provides mixtures of iron (III) oxoethoxide, Fe₅O(OEt)₁₃, and its halide alkoxide analogs. The latter have been identified by mass-spectrometric study as Fe₅O(OEt)₁₂X and Fe₅O(OEt)₁₁X₂. Application of FeBr₃ as a starting material leads to much more pure samples of Fe₅O(OEt)₁₃ isolated with higher yields.     

An analysis of the possible mechanism of the ulcerostatic action of 1-ethoxysilatrane]

Stimulating effect of 1-ethoxysilatrane on healing processes of experimental stomach ulcers was studied in rats. 1-ethoxysilatrane inhibited lipid peroxidation in blood and stomach wall tissues, interacted with artificial membranes, and affected the rate of mitochondrial respiration in liver. A hypothesis is put forward on the membranotropic effect of 1-ethoxysilatrane which underlies its ulcerostatic effect.     

Interaction of reversible inhibitors with the catalytic centers and allosteric sites of cholinesterases]

The kinetics of inhibition of the human red blood cell cholinesterase with galanthamine tacrine and oxazyl (ambenonium) and the effect of these drugs on chick, mouse, cat and rat blood plasma enzyme activity was studied. Galanthamine proved to bind with acetylcholinesterase in the anionic areas of the catalytic centres, oxazyl interacted in the area of the allosteric anionic site, and tacrin interacted with the hydrophobic areas of the enzyme.
