The isolation and characterization of 10 isolates of six Fusarium spp. from plant and soil samples collected in Southeast Asia is reported. The ability of these isolates to produce trichothecenes both in liquid cultures (CZ, GYEP, and MYRO) and on rice was assessed, and their toxigenic potential was examined by skin assay and gavage studies with culture filtrates. Although culture filtrates of all the isolates caused minor damage to test animals, only that of F. equiseti DAOM 189762 produced trichothecenes. 相似文献

Summary Phosphate sorption isotherms were developed for five Philippine wetland rice soils using the conventional technique and a modified one. In the conventional method, P requirements of soils varied between 280 and 810 g P/g soil. In the modified method, they varied from 160 to 540 g P/g soil at 0.2 ppm P in solution. Soils with high P-sorption capacities had vermiculite and halloysite as the dominant clay minerals. Soil reduction by flooding decreased P-sorption by 28–70 percent at 0.2 ppm P in solution. The decrease in P-sorption due to soil reduction was greatest in a crystalline soil with vermiculite and halloysite as the dominant clay minerals and least in a soil with dominant X-ray amorphous silicates in the clay fraction.Desorption of freshly adsorbed P under reduction was greater in HCO

solution than in CaCl2 and it increased with level of applied P. Desorption patterns of freshly adsorbed P were similar to adsorption patterns but values of P in solution were lower at desorption. Use of P-sorption and P-desorption data obtained under reduced soil condition was proposed for detecting P needs of submerged rice soils.Results of a pot study with IR36 at different levels of solution P (reduced) in one soil indicated a high degree of correlation between adjusted P levels and the measured growth parameters. Dopamine (DA) and DA agonists have been shown to exert a protective role against the formation of duodenal ulcers. The effect of stimulation of DA receptors on the development of stress-induced gastric ulcers is currently unknown. Accordingly, we evaluated the effect of several DA agonists on the development of gastric ulcers induced by 3 h of cold + restraint stress (CRS) in rats. Apomorphine, d-amphetamine, methylphenidate, and threo-dl-p-hydroxymethylphenidate (an hydroxylated analog of methylphenidate), significantly reduced both the incidence and severity of CRS-induced gastric ulcers. The gastric cytoprotection afforded by these agents was dose-related, and completely antagonized by pretreatment with the peripheally acting DA antagonist domperidone. Because domperidone blocks peripheral, but not central, DA receptors, and since the entry of threo-dl-p-hydroxymethylphenidate across the blood-brain barrier into the brain is restricted to a great extent, we conclude that stimulation of peripheral DA receptors is primarily involved in the gastric cytoprotection induced by dopamimetics.The pathogenesis of stress-induced gastric ulcers remains largely unknown, and significant efforts have been made over the last decade to functionally characterize some of the factors involved in the etiology of this disease. Considerable attention has been focused on gastric acid secretion, but its primary role in stress-induced gastric ulcer disease remains uncertain. In fact, agents which effectively inhibit or neutralize gastric acid secretion such as cimetidine or antacids do not necessarily exert protection against stress-induced gastric ulcers (1,2). Moreover, in our original studies with neurotensin, a brain and gastrointestinal peptide, we have found that central administration of this neuropeptide, which completely prevents the development of cold + restraint stress (CRS)-induced gastric ulcers, does not appreciably alter gastric acid secretion (2). These findings support the contention that gastric acid secretion may not be an important factor in the development of this type of gastric ulcer.There is, however, considerable evidence that the automatic nervous system plays an intermediary role in the development of these ulcers (3,4). In this regard, surgical or pharmacological blockade of the vagal (cholinergic) division of the autonomic nervous system prevents the appearance of stress-associated gastric ulcers (5,6). Direct stimulation of catecholamine receptors, or indirect activation via increased sympathetic outflow to the periphery (7,4,8–11) appears to produce a salutary effect of stress-induced gastric ulcers.Szabo and his associates (12, 13, 14) have extensively studied the anti ulcer effects of dopamine (DA) in duodenal ulcer formation. Yeast tRNAPhe has been studied by using proton NMR and nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) with deuterium substitution. Direct NOE evidence is presented for assignment of imino resonances of 23 of 27 base pairs in this tRNA. Other indirect evidence is presented for tentative assignment of four other base pairs. Almost total assignment also has been made of the important noninternally bonded imino protons and tertiary interactions (however, G18-psi 55 remains unassigned). The most surprising result has been identification of GC11 at -13.68 ppm; this is the first time a GC base pair has been identified so far downfield. This peak (GC11) is also identified as the resonance of the unique imino proton that exchanges in a time of more than 1 day, as previously described. These identifications of imino proton resonances made it possible to reinterpret the proton solvent exchange rate data previously published on this tRNA and understand them better. The assignments of resonances should pave the way for more detailed solution study of this tRNA and its interaction with biologically relevant molecules. 相似文献

A fluorescent pigment was isolated from the culture fluid of Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum strain H. This pigment was shown to be 7,8-didemethyl-8-hydroxy-5-deazariboflavin by various spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. This compound was previously described as the FO acid hydrolysis fragment of coenzyme F420. On the basis of the time of appearance of the pigment in the course of fermentation, it is suggested that this substance may be an over-produced biosynthetic precursor of F420. 相似文献

Haploid recombinant yield is reduced in matings conducted at 42.5 C between deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) temperature-sensitive [dna−(TS)] recipients unable to synthesize DNA at 42.5 C and any of the three major donor types (Hfr, F+, F′) of Escherichia coli. No such reduction is observed in matings conducted at 42.5 C when the dna−(TS) mutation is in the donor parent. Evidence is presented which indicates that chromosome transfer from donors to recipients unable to replicate DNA at 42.5 C during vegetative growth occurs at normal frequencies when the mating is conducted at 42.5 C. It is concluded that some stage in haploid recombinant formation is adversely affected in dna−(TS) recipients mated at the temperature restrictive for DNA synthesis. 相似文献
