Length–weight relationships (LWRs) were estimated for nine freshwater fish species collected three times using a scoop net (mesh size 0.3–0.5 cm), cast net (mesh size 1–1.5 cm) and gillnet (mesh size 2.5–4.5 cm) from six rivers of the Western Ghats of India during August 2017–October 2018. The b values for LWRs varied from 2.862 to 3.656 (R2 > 0.916 and p < 0.0001 for all species).  相似文献

Planktonic blooms and its control is an intriguing problem in ecology. To investigate the oscillatory successions of blooms, three simple phytoplankton-zooplankton systems are proposed. It is observed that if the uptake function is linear and the process of toxin liberation is instantaneous, the oscillatory nature of blooms is not observed. On the other hand, periodic planktonic blooms are observed when toxin liberation process follows discrete time variation. The bloom phenomena described by this mechanism can be controlled through toxin producing phytoplankton (TPP). Introducing environmental fluctuation in the system, a critical value of time delay in terms of correlation time of the fluctuation is worked out. We observed from our mathematical analysis, numerical simulation and field observation that TPP and control of the rapidity of environmental fluctuation are key factors for the termination of planktonic blooms.  相似文献

Wilson disease is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. The gene for this disorder has been cloned and identified to encode a copper-transporting ATPase (ATP7B), a member of a large family of cation transporters, the P-type ATPases. In addition to the core elements common to all P-type ATPases, the Wilson copper-transporting ATPase has a large cytoplasmic N-terminus comprised six heavy metal associated (HMA) domains, each of which contains the copper-binding sequence motif GMT/HCXXC. Extensive studies addressing the functional, regulatory, and structural aspects of heavy metal transport by heavy metal transporters in general, have offered great insights into copper transport by Wilson copper-transporting ATPase. The findings from these studies have been used together with homology modeling of the Wilson disease copper-transporting ATPases based on the X-ray structure of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) calcium-ATPase, to present a hypothetical model of the mechanism of copper transport by copper-transporting ATPases.  相似文献

Hyaluronidase activity of human endometrial tissues and uterine fluids was investigated. Endometrial tissue and uterine fluid specimens were obtained from normal human subjects, and different cases of uterine dysfunction induced by steroidal contraceptives, copper IUD, lactational amenorrhea, and in early pregnancy. Hyaluronidase activity was found to increase from Cycle Days 8 to 10 and reach the maximum value during the secretory phase. Hyaluronidase activity was reduced in both endometrial tissue and uterine fluid during lactational amenorrhea and early pregnancy, and was drastically reduced in copper-IUD and steroidal contraceptive users. The low hyaluronidase activity in the early phase of the cycle may be due to rapid growth of endometrial tissue. In the secretory phase, the corresponding activities were found to increase because of high secretory activity and enhanced catabolic processes. In early pregnancy, the low lysosomal enzyme activity may also be explained on the basis of increased endometrium tissue growth. Low hyaluronidase activity of amenorrhic subjects may be due to the absence of ovarian steroids.  相似文献

An acidic heteropolysaccharide has been isolated from the tropical angiosperm Feronia limonia syn. F. elephantum (family: Rutaceae). A partially carboxymethylated α-(1–4) polygalacturonan backbone structure with 2- and 2,4-O-α- -rhamnopyranosyl, 2- and 2,3-O-α- -arabinofuranosyl and 3-, 2,4-and terminal α- -galactopyranosyl bearing side chains has been tentatively assigned. The preliminary study in the murine model showed some significant in vivo Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cell growth inhibition.  相似文献

Studies reported earlier [ Joshi et al. (1982) J. Biol. Chem. 257, 13884-13887] have indicated that human interferon-alpha 2 (HuIFN-alpha 2) binds to a specific macromolecular receptor on human cells as identified by cross-linking with bifunctional cross-linking reagents and analysis by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. We have carried out experiments to investigate the fate of the interferon-receptor complex on the cell surface under conditions which lead to cellular response. As analyzed by cross-linking and gel electrophoresis, the interferon-receptor complex, formed on incubation with 125I-IFN-alpha 2 at 4 degrees C, persisted at the cell surface for several hours at 4 degrees C; however, if the cells were switched to 37 degrees C, there was a rapid decline in the complex, apparently due to a loss of the interferon receptors from the cell surface. This was associated with an internalization of the 125I-interferon as indicated by the fact that, on incubation at 37 degrees C, an appreciable fraction of the cell-associated interferon (approximately equal to 50%) became resistant to trypsin digestion, or dissociation on incubation in growth medium or low-pH buffer. A large fraction of the trypsin-resistant (internalized) 125I-labeled material migrated as intact interferon in polyacrylamide gels, and it was immunoprecipitated by anti-(HuIFN-alpha)antibodies but not by anti-(HuIFN-beta)antibodies. The bulk of the internalized 125I-interferon was recovered in a particulate fraction and, on cross-linking with disuccinimidyl suberate, a 150000-Mr complex could be detected. The results suggest that interferon may be internalized as a complex with the receptor, which may account for the loss of the interferon-receptors on the cell surface. This modulation of the IFN-alpha/beta receptors was induced by HuIFN-alpha and HuIFN-beta but not by HuIFN-gamma. The recovery of the IFN-alpha/beta receptors, lost upon incubation with HuIFN-alpha, took several hours and required protein synthesis. The significance of the results is discussed.  相似文献

In acetonitrile, reactions of bis(acetylacetonato)oxidovanadium(IV) ([VO(acac)2]) with 4-R-benzoylhydrazine in 1:1 mole ratio provide coordinatively symmetrical complexes (1-5) of the {OV(μ-O)VO}4+ motif in 40-47% yields. On the other hand, in methanol the same reactants provide complexes (6-10) containing the {OV(μ-OMe)2VO}4+ core in 37-50% yields. In both series of complexes, the ligand is the O,N,O-donor deprotonated Schiff base system 4-R-benzoic acid (1-methyl-3-oxo-butylidene)-hydrazide formed by template condensation of acac with 4-R-benzoylhydrazine (R = H, Cl, OMe, NO2 and NMe2). All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic and spectroscopic (IR, UV-Vis and NMR) measurements. Molecular structures of three representative complexes (4, 6 and 7) have been determined by X-ray crystallography. In each complex, the dianionic planar ligand is coordinated to the metal centre via the enolate-O, the imine-N and the O-atom of the deprotonated amide functionality. Cyclic voltammetric measurements in dichloromethane revealed that complexes 1-5 are redox inactive, while complexes 6-10 display a metal centred reduction in the potential range −0.06 to 0.0.32 V (versus Ag/AgCl).  相似文献

Differences in the genetic and epigenetic make up of cell lines have been very useful for dissecting the roles of specific genes in the biology of a cell. Targeted comparative RNAi (TARCOR) analysis uses high throughput RNA interference (RNAi) against a targeted gene set and rigorous quantitation of the phenotype to identify genes with a differential requirement for proliferation between cell lines of different genetic backgrounds. To demonstrate the utility of such an analysis, we examined 257 growth-regulated genes in parallel in a breast epithelial cell line, MCF10A, and a prostate cancer cell line, PC3. Depletion of an unexpectedly high number of genes (25%) differentially affected proliferation of the two cell lines. Knockdown of many genes that spare PC3 (p53-) but inhibit MCF10A (p53+) proliferation induces p53 in MCF10A cells. EBNA1BP2, involved in ribosome biogenesis, is an example of such a gene, with its depletion arresting MCF10A at G1/S in a p53-dependent manner. TARCOR is thus useful for identifying cell type-specific genes and pathways involved in proliferation and also for exploring the heterogeneity of cell lines. In particular, our data emphasize the importance of considering the genetic status, when performing siRNA screens in mammalian cells.  相似文献
