In most primate groups emigration of the maturing young of one or the other sex tends to serve as an incest avoidance mechanism. Among most primate species it is the males who change groups. This supports the theory that, in terms of reproductive success, males should compete for mates and females should compete for resources. In hominoids the combination of increased longevity and greater female discrimination in mate selection seems responsible for female emigration. This may relate to the high frequency of patrilocality and male control of resources among human groups. 相似文献

An antiserum to flagellar axonemes from sperm of Arbacia punctulata contains antibodies which react both with intact flagellar outer fibers and with purified tubulin from the outer fibers. Immunodiffusion tests indicate the presence of similar antigenic determinants on outer-fiber tubulins from sperm flagella of five species of sea urchins and a sand dollar, but not a starfish. The antibodies also react with extracts containing tubulins from different classes of microtubules, including central-pair fibers and both A- and B-subfibers from outer fibers of sperm flagella, an extract from unfertilized eggs, mitotic apparatuses from first cleavage embryos, and cilia from later embryos. Though most tubulins tested share similar antigenic determinants, some clear differences have been detected, even, in Pseudoboletia indiana, between the outer-fiber tubulins of sperm flagella and blastular cilia. Though tubulins are "actin-like" proteins, antitubulin serum does not react with actin from sea urchin lantern muscle. On the basis of these observations, we suggest that various echinoid microtubules are built of similar, but not identical, tubulins. 相似文献

Phosphoinositides of human, rabbit, rat, and turkey erythrocytes were radiolabeled by incubation of intact cells with [32P]Pi. Guanosine 5'-O-(thiotriphosphate) (GTP gamma S) and NaF, which are known activators of guanine nucleotide regulatory proteins, caused a large increase in [32P]inositol phosphate release from plasma membranes derived from turkey erythrocytes, but had no effect on inositol phosphate formation by plasma membranes prepared from the mammalian erythrocytes. High performance liquid chromatography analysis indicated that inositol bisphosphate, inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, and inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate all increased by 20-30-fold during a 10-min incubation of turkey erythrocyte membranes with GTP gamma S. The increase in inositol phosphate formation was accompanied by a similar decrease in radioactivity in phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PIP) and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2). GTP gamma S increased inositol phosphate formation with a K0.5 of 600 nM; guanosine 5'-(beta, gamma-imido)trisphosphate was 50-75% as efficacious as GTP gamma S and expressed a K0.5 of 36 microM. Although GTP alone had little effect on inositol phosphate formation, it blocked GTP gamma S-stimulated inositol phosphate formation, as did guanosine 5'-O-(2-thiodiphosphate). Turkey erythrocytes were also shown to express phosphatidylinositol synthetase activity in that incubation of cells with [3H] inositol resulted in incorporation of radiolabel into phosphatidylinositol, PIP, and PIP2. Incubation of membranes derived from [3H]inositol-labeled erythrocytes with GTP gamma S resulted in large increases in [3H] inositol phosphate formation and corresponding decreases in radiolabel in PIP and PIP2. The data suggest that, in contrast to mammalian erythrocytes, the turkey erythrocyte expresses a guanine nucleotide-binding protein that regulates phospholipase C, and as such, should provide a useful model system for furthering our understanding of hormonal regulation of this enzyme. 相似文献

Summary Both smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells play an important role in vascular wound healing. To elucidate the role of
fructose-1, 6-diphosphate, cell proliferation and cell migration studies were performed with human endothelial cells and rat
smooth muscle cells. To mimic blood vessels, endothelial and smooth muscle cells were used in 1:10, 1:5, and 1:1 concentrations,
respectively, mimicking large-, mid-, and capillary-sized blood vessels. Cell migration was studied with fetal bovine serum-starved
cells. For cell proliferation assay, cells were plated at 30–50% confluency and then starved. The cells were incubated for
48 h with fructose-1, 6-diphosphate at (per ml) 10 mg, 1 mg, 500 μg, 250 μg, 100 μg, and 10 μg, pulsed with tritiated-thymidine
and incubated with 1 N NaOH for 30 min at room temperature, harvested, and counted. For migration assay, confluent cells were starved, wounded,
and incubated for 24 h with same concentrations of fructose-1, 6-diphosphate as in proliferation assay. The cells were fixed
and counted. Smooth muscle cell proliferation was inhibited by fructose-1, 6-diphosphate at 10 mg/ml. In the xenograft models
of 1:10, 1:5, and 1:1 fructose-1, 6-diphosphate inhibited proliferation at 10 mg/ml. In migration studies 10 mg fructose-1,
6-diphosphate per ml was inhibitory to both cell types. In large-, mid-, and capillary-sized blood vessels, fructose-1, 6-diphosphate
inhibited proliferation of both cell types at 10 mg/ml. At the individual cell level, fructose-1, 6-diphosphate is nonstimulatory
to proliferation of endothelial cells while inhibiting migration, and it acts on smooth muscle cells by inhibiting both proliferation

A Citrobacter sp. originally isolated from metal-polluted soil accumulates heavy metals via metal-phosphate deposition utilizing inorganic
phosphate liberated via PhoN phosphatase activity. Further strain development was limited by the non-transformability of this
environmental isolate. Recombinant Escherichia coli DH5α bearing cloned phoN or the related phoC acquired metal-accumulating ability, which was compared with that of the Citrobacter sp. with respect to removal of uranyl ion (UO2
2+) from dilute aqueous flows and its deposition in the form of polycrystalline hydrogen uranyl phosphate (HUO2PO4). Subsequently, HUO2PO4-laden cells removed Ni2+ from dilute aqueous flows via intercalation of Ni2+ into the HUO2PO4 lattice. Despite comparable acid phosphatase activity in all three strains, the E. coli DH5α (phoN) construct was superior to Citrobacter N14 in both uranyl and nickel accumulation, while the E. coli DH5α (phoC) construct was greatly inferior in both respects. Expression of phosphatase activity alone is not the only factor that permits
efficient and prolonged metal phosphate accumulation, and the data highlight possible differences in the PhoN and PhoC phosphatases,
which are otherwise considered to be related in many respects.

Despite extensive analysis of the incidence ofHLA-DR andHLA-DQ allele frequencies in defined autoimmune disease groups, there is very little information available onHLA-DP allele frequencies. This is largely becauseHLA-DP typing has until recently been restricted to primed lymphocyte typing (PLT). However, allelic polymorphism of theHLA-DP subregion can now be studied by Southern blot analysis or genotyping withDPA1 andDPB1 probes. By direct counting of allele-specific DNA fragments, we have analyzed the frequencies of five majorDP genotypes (DPw1, DPw2, DPw3/6, DPw4, andDPw5), in a large number of Caucasoid rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients (n=74), and controls (n=91). The predicted frequency
ofDP alleles in both patient and control groups was comparable to PLT-determinedDP allele frequencies in normal Caucasoids. However, the gene frequency ofDPw4 was increased in the RA patients, with 51% of the patients studied scoring asDPw4, 4 homozygotes. With the exception of one possible combination (DPw5 andDRw6) in the controls, no significant linkage disequilibrium was detected betweenDP andDR alleles in either patient or control groups. Surface antigenic markers were detected on three classes of Marek's disease (MD) tumor cells, i.e., MD lymphoma cells, cultured cells of the MSB-1 lymphoblastoid cell line, and JMV lymphoblastic leukemia cells, by indirect membrane immunofluorescent staining with serum from chickens immunized with JMV cells or from rabbits immunized with MSB-1 cells. This surface antigen was not detected on normal chicken lymphocytes, RPL-16 tumor cells (tranedormed by an avian RNA virus, or MD virus-infected fibroblasts that were positive for viral membrane antigen (MA). Furthermore, the surface antigen appeared unrelated to embryonic or histocompatibility antigens. This antigen is provisionally designated as a Marek's disease tumor-associated surface antigen (MATSA). The MATSA's on JMV, MSB-1 and MD lymphoma cells were related but not identical as demonstrated by antiserum titration, absorption and blocking tests with homologous and heterologous systems. 相似文献
