Electromyographic biofeedback treatment of a woman with chronic dysphagia

In this case report, a 25-year-old female with chronic dysphagia spastica(difficulty swallowing because of constriction of the throat muscles) was treated with 20 sessions of frontal electromyographic(EMG) biofeedback and home-relaxation practice. The subject monitored on a 10-point scale her difficulty swallowing during meals for 2 months prior to treatment, during treatment, and after treatment. There was a significant decrease in reported difficulty swallowing associated with frontalis EMG feedback. Improvement was maintained at a 6-month follow-up.     

H(Tla) system: Identification of two new loci,H-31 andH-32, and alleles

Skin and tumor grafting experiments performed on F₁ hybrid mice indicate that theH(Tla) histocompatibility system is composed of at least two genetic loci,H(Tla-1) andH(Tla-2), and that one of these loci,H(Tla-1), has at least three alleles. We suggest thatH(Tla-1) andH(Tla-2) be renamedH-31 andH-32, respectively.     

Reconstitution of pig lymphocyte plasma membranes from solubilized components, with particular reference to membrane-associated immunoglobulins

Plasma membranes of lymphocytes obtained from pig mesenteric lymph nodes were reconstituted after solubilization with bile salts. The proportion by weight of immunoglobulin in the reconstituted membrane was no greater than about 5-10% of that in the original membrane. Possible reasons for the low reincorporation of immunoglobulin are discussed.     

A FERTILE AXIS OF TRILOBOXYLON ASHLANDICUM,A PROGYMNOSPERM FROM THE UPPER DEVONIAN OF NEW YORK

A partially petrified impression of Triloboxylon ashlandicum (Aneurophytales) is the first recognized fertile axis of the genus. Identification of the fertile axis rests on the similarity of its anatomy with that of previously described vegetative specimens. Fertile organs replace some vegetative branches along part of the main axis. Fertile organs are twice dichotomized in one plane and bear elongate sporangia arranged pinnately. Vegetative branches differ in that they bear the ultimate appendages of the plant helically. The latter organs dichotomize many times in one plane. Although similar in size and morphology to the ultimate appendages, the fertile organs are homologous by position and vascular supply to the vegetative branches which they replace. Sporangia of T. ashlandicum dehisce longitudinally and terminate in an apiculate tip. Spores are unknown. Fertile organs of T. ashlandicum resemble those of other Aneurophytales and support the earlier placement of Triloboxylon in the order on anatomical grounds. T. ashlandicum differs from other Aneurophytales, however, by bearing vegetative organs at the distal end of its fertile axis.
