A new method for producing biologically active nanocomplexes by a noncovalent conjugation of proteins with viral particles

A new method for noncovalent immobilization of a peptide epitope on the virion surface was developed to simplify and standardize the procedures for producing viral nanocomplexes. The efficacy of this approach was demonstrated by the example of a model system comprising the tobacco mosaic virus, synthetic cationic polymer poly-N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide, and a model polypeptide. The principle of sequential adsorption, underlying production of the triple system virion-polycation-protein, was used for electrostatic immobilization of a recombinant hydrophilic fragment of the influenza virus hemagglutinin (Flu1-3) on the virion surface. The method provided for a significant increase in the immunogenic activity of this potential artificial vaccine protein.     

Toxicity, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the Soviet bleomycin, bleomycetin, in a single administration to laboratory animals]

Toxicity of bleomycetin (bleomycin A2) administered intravenously, intraperitoneally, subcutaneously or intramusculary in a single dose to animals was almost identical. On its oral administration bleomycetin was 10--14 times less toxic than on its parenteral use. Rats were somewhat less sensitive to bleomycetin than mice. Bleomycetin had no significant effect on the level of the arterial pressure, respiration, ECG characteristics and elements of the vegetative nervous system in narcotized cats. After a single intravenous or subcutaneous administration to rabbits bleomycetin was detectable in the blood for 4--5 hours. The highest bleomycetin levels were registered in the skin, kidneys and lungs. Bleomycetin was mainly excreted with the urine.     

Histological characteristics of the reactions of cerebral neuroglia in laboratory animals

Literature data and the authors' results, concerning structural and functional peculiarities of all varieties of the cerebral neuroglia under effect of a cranial-cerebral trauma, neurotropic chemical products and oxygen insufficiency have been considered. Ideas that neuroglial reactions under the conditions mentioned are proved to be constant and in dependence of certain peculiarities of each case are either progressive or regressive. The reaction degree is mainly proportional to the disturbance power. Nevertheless, certain discrepancies (ariactivity including) can be observed; this is also determined by a combination of prerequisites and by a peculiarity of individual reactivity of the CNS. The greatest stability of astroglia has been stated. Possible variations in relation between changes of neurons and gliocytes are mentioned. Suggestions are made that diffuse-focal progressive reactions of macroglia under conditions of neurotoxicoses can be determined not by proliferation of cells, but by their migration.     

The Duration of Exercise Tolerance in Terms of Circulatory Indices in the Inhabitants of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) within a Ten-Year Period

The duration of exercise tolerance of the circulatory system in different ethnic populations of Yakutia early in and at the end of the last decade of the 20th century (1988–1989 and 1998–1999) was studied. Compared to the native population (Yakuts), those born in Yakutia (Europoids) demonstrated a higher tolerance at both stages of the study. It was found that the work capacity and exercise tolerance significantly decreased in both ethnic groups during the last decade of the 20th century.     

Mapping of the genetic determinant controlling Salmonella K-antigen synthesis. I. Localization of the determinant in conjugation experiments

The preliminary data on the localization of the gene responsible for the synthesis of K-antigen in salmonellae were obtained. Using Salmonella Hfr donors with different onset of the transfer of chromosomal markers and with phenotype K+, the authors selected different classes of recombinants in the process of their crossing with K- recipients. The positive result of the agglutination test with specific K-antiserum indicated that the transconjugate thus obtained possessed phenotype K+. The gene responsible for the synthesis of K-antigen was shown to be localized between minutes 46 and 41 of the genetic map of S. typhimurium. This gene was not cotransduced with the histidine marker localized on minute 44 of the map.
