Myosin-activating protein kinases in human myocardium: Localization and content

Using the immunofluorescence approach, we have determined that the recently detected protein kinases, among which are RhoA-activated kinase, integrin-linked kinase, zipper interacting protein kinase, and death-associated protein kinase, are capable of phosphorylating myosin localized in the Z-lines of human myocardial sarcomeres. Additionally, we studied the content of integrin-linked and zipper interacting protein kinases in human embryonic myocardium, as well as in normal and hypertrophic adult human heart. The content of these protein kinases in adult normal myocardium increases in comparison with the embryonic heart. The content of integrin-linked and zipper interacting protein kinases in hypertrophic myocardium is higher as compared with the normal adult heart. The data obtained suggest the involvement of these protein kinases in the development and hypertrophy of the human heart.

Mathematical simulation of the regulation of the size of the lymphoid population in relation to chronic lymphoid leukemia

A model was constructed of accumulation kinetics of labeled lymphocytes based on the experiments of long-term injection of 3H-thymidine label in vivo into the blood of healthy and suffering from chronic lympholeucosis animals. There was found an essential difference between the coefficients of reproduction and death of cells of the proliferating pool for the normal, initial and advanced stages of the disease. This served as a basis for the creation of the closed non-linear model of autoregulation of lymphoid population size describing different stages of leucosis development.     

Surface K antigen in Salmonella paratyphi B.

It was established by agar immunoelectrophoresis that Salmonella paratyphi B lysate contains a large number of soluble antigens which display a varying degree of serological specifity as well as different diffusion and electrophoretic mobility. Salmonella paratyphi B was found to possess, apart from specific O and H antigens, a surface K antigen. This is a distinct antigen having strict serological specificity. Purified K antigen displayed anodic mobility in immunoelectrophoresis. A detailed study of K antigen properties in cultures treated by different methods as well as immunochemical investigations of purified K antigen showed that the surface K antigen of S. paratyphi B differs from its O, M, Vi, H and other known antigens in terms of basic characteristics.
