Effect of diuretics (diacarb and lasix) on the experimental antitumor activity, toxicity and pharmacokinetics of the antibiotic, olivomycin

Diacarb or lasix in combination with olivomycin increased the antibiotic antiblastomic activity and toxicity when used for the course treatment of mice with transplanted lymphosarcoma LIO-I. The chemotherapeutic indices of such combinations did not differ from those of olivomycin used alone. Diacarb decreased excretion of olivomycin with the urine in healthy mice, while lasix increased it.     

Histoautoradiographic study of thymidine-3H incorporation into the parenchymal nuclei of the kidneys and other organs in rats with nephrotoxic nephritis]

The features of changes in the index of thymidine-3H incorporation into the renal parenchyma in nephrotoxic nephritis are compared to other organs. In the kidneys the index of incorporation inthe epithelial cells of the renal cortex was 7.5-fold and in the brain cortex epithelium 15-fold as increased, respectively. The number of labeled glomerular cells was 2.5-fold as increased. In glomerulonephritis, the index of thymidine-3H incorporation in the epithelium of the adrenals, liver, goiter gland and small intestine lowered within 30-80% from normal.     

Effect of 5'-deoxy-5'-S-isobutyladenosine on hematopoietic stem cells

Unlike known cytostatics, 5'-deoxy-5'-S-isobutyladenosine (SIBA) does not inhibit proliferative activity of hemopoietic stem cells of intact bone marrow. On the contrary, it raises CFUs number of 15-28% in vitro and in vivo. SIBA inhibits by 40% the 3',5'-cAMP-induced increase in CFUs proliferation.     

Compensatory hypertrophy of the adrenal glands following unilateral adrenalectomy in juvenile rats

Left-handed adrenalectomy in rats aged 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 days produces compensatory hypertrophy of the remaining gland. Hypertrophy of the right adrenal is unmarked and variable depending on the time elapsed after operation (1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21 and 30 days). The index of hypertrophy as regards one right control adrenal does not exceed 133.6%, whereas that as regards both control adrenals 66.2%. Zona fasciculata reticularis plays the main role in the increase of the dimension and weight of the hypertrophied gland. The body weight of operated rats is lower as compared to control, the weight lag being inversely proportional to the animal's age at the moment of operation.     

Isolation and characteristics of a new strain of diploid cells from human embryonic lung tissue

A new strain of the embryonic human fibroblasts L-68 was obtained and thoroughly characterized. It completely met all the requirements of the International Committee on the Cells Cultures. This strain can be recommended as a substrate for production of viral vaccines, diagnostic preparations and for research purposes.     

The fauna and abundance of chewing lice (Insecta,Phthiraptera) parasitizing sedentary passerine birds (Aves,Passeriformes) in Yakutia

Data on the fauna, abundance and prevalence of chewing lice collected from 360 specimens of 13 sedentary species of passerine birds in Yakutia are given. A total of 3206 specimens of chewing lice belonging to 27 species of 6 genera were collected. Most of the studied bird species were infested with several chewing lice species. Exchange of parasites may take place between some bird species in the study region.     

Evolution of catalytic centers of antibodies by virtual screening of broad repertoire of mutants using supercomputer

It is proposed to perform quantum mechanical/molecular dynamics calculations of chemical reactions that are planned to be catalyzed by antibodies and then conduct a virtual screening of the library of potential antibody mutants to select an optimal biocatalyst. We tested the effectiveness of this approach by the example of hydrolysis of organophosphorus toxicant paraoxon using kinetic approaches and X-ray analysis of the antibody biocatalyst designed de novo.     

The effect of a 105-day experiment in isolated environment on the functional state of the cardiovascular system of the participants

We studied the effect of a 105-day experiment in an isolated environment on the functional state of the cardiovascular system of six male participants aged 25 to 40 years; as well as the diagnostic significance of novel research methods, in particular, the ECG variance mapping and the assessment of endotheliumdependent flow mediated dilation in the right brachial artery. Our results indicate that the conditions of isolation resulted in changes in the internal cardiac hemodynamics and, consequently, to progressive development of cardiac arrhythmias. This is probably related to the changes in neurohumoral regulation of the heart and disturbance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic innervations. The changes in the vascular wall and vasomotor endothelial function in two subjects suggest endothelial dysfunction and an increased risk of atherosclerosis.
