BACKGROUND: Placental hemangioma (chorioangioma) and congenital hemangioma are relatively common tumors, which on rare occasions may occur together. Very little is known about the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying these lesions. CASE: Herein we describe a rare case of a stillborn infant with chorioangioma, placental mesenchymal dysplasia, and liver cavernous hemangioma. In addition, we present the findings of the karyotype analysis of these lesions, which was done with the bacterial artificial chromosome arrays using the comparative genomic hybridization method. The chromosomal abnormalities that we found were deletions at 2q13 and 7p21.1 and were common to both placental and liver lesions. CONCLUSIONS: None of the identified chromosomal aberrations have been previously associated with chorioangiomas or hemangiomas. Important genes that lie in these DNA regions may be implicated in the pathogenesis of congenital hemangiomas and mesenchymal dysplasia. 相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY), a putative neurotransmitter abundant in the brain, has recently been shown to act within the hypothalamus, inducing a powerful eating response and a specific appetite for carbohydrates. In the present study, NPY (235 pmol) injected bilaterally in the paraventricular nucleus three times a day for 10 days caused approximately a two-fold increase in daily food intake, a six-fold increase in the rate of body weight gain and a three-fold increase in the body fat of female rats. Subsequently, the food intake and body weight of these subjects decreased precipitously, reaching control levels 20 days postinjection. These findings, demonstrating that exogenous NPY is capable of overriding mechanisms of satiety and body weight control, suggest that disturbances in NPY function may play a role in some disorders of eating behavior and body weight regulation. 相似文献

Recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL (oxLDL) by scavenger receptors of macrophages and foam cell formation are mediated by the oxidatively modified apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and lipid moiety of oxLDL. A great amount of oxidized phosphatidylcholine (oxPC) of oxLDL is hydrolyzed at the sn-2 position by lipoprotein associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) to lysophosphatidylcholine and small oxidation products. This study examines the involvement of Lp-PLA2 in the uptake of oxLDL by mouse peritoneal macrophages. LDL with intact Lp-PLA2 activity [LDL (+)] and LDL with completely inhibited Lp-PLA2 activity [LDL (-)] were subjected to oxidation with 5 μM CuSO4 for 6 h [moderately oxLDL (MoxLDL)], or 24 h [heavily oxLDL (HoxLDL)] and peritoneal macrophages were incubated with these preparations. The uptake of MoxLDL(-) was about 30% increased compared with that of MoxLDL(+), and HoxLDL(-) uptake was about 20% increased compared with that of HoxLDL(+). Inhibition of Lp-PLA2 activity had no effect on the uptake of ApoB-liposomes conjugates with ApoB isolated from MoxLDL(-), MoxLDL(+), HoxLDL(-), and HoxLDL(+). Liposomes prepared from the lipid extract of MoxLDL(-), MoxLDL(+), HoxLDL(-), and HoxLDL(+) exhibited a similar pattern to that observed in the uptake of the corresponding intact lipoproteins. This study suggests that the progressive inactivation of Lp-PLA2 during LDL oxidation leads to an increased uptake of oxLDL by macrophages, which could be primarily attributed to the increased uptake of the oxidized phospholipids enriched lipid moiety of oxLDL. 相似文献

A detailed histo-anatomical and phytochemical study on Globularia alypum was carried out to investigate season-induced plant responses related to leaf morphology and content of secondary metabolites (SMs). Leaf tissue analysis by light and scanning electron microscopy showed neither morphological nor significant anatomical adaptions/variations to the coldest and the hottest seasons. Both summer and winter leaf tissue resulted amphistomatic with compact mesophyll and capitate glandular trichomes. Epidermal and mesophyll cells showed a significant accumulation of osmiophilic compounds, further characterized as phenolics by the histochemical screening. Beside the morpho-anatomical similarities in tissue arrangement, SMs production, within and among the different natural product classes, resulted seasonally dependent. In total, 24 SMs belonging to iridoids, flavonoids and phenylethanoid glycosides were tentatively assigned by UHPLC-HRMS analysis. Among iridoids, (E)-globularicisin showed to be the prevalent constituent, with content up to 70%. Total iridoid production was increased by 48.1% during summer. Similarly, flavonoid anabolism was more active during the same period, although with less remarkable seasonal variation reaching 25.6%. In contrast to the overall higher production of iridoids and flavonoids, a drastic fall (33.5%) of phenylethanoids was observed during summer. 相似文献

Background
Obesity is a multifactorial trait, which comprises an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of the current work is to study the complex etiology beneath obesity and identify genetic variations and/or factors related to nutrition that contribute to its variability. To this end, a set of more than 2300 white subjects who participated in a nutrigenetics study was used. For each subject a total of 63 factors describing genetic variants related to CVD (24 in total), gender, and nutrition (38 in total), e.g. average daily intake in calories and cholesterol, were measured. Each subject was categorized according to body mass index (BMI) as normal (BMI ≤ 25) or overweight (BMI > 25). Two artificial neural network (ANN) based methods were designed and used towards the analysis of the available data. These corresponded to i) a multi-layer feed-forward ANN combined with a parameter decreasing method (PDM-ANN), and ii) a multi-layer feed-forward ANN trained by a hybrid method (GA-ANN) which combines genetic algorithms and the popular back-propagation training algorithm. 相似文献108.
