In this study, we sought to investigate the biology (diet and reproduction) and ethnobiology (fishers knowledge and fishing spots used to catch snappers) of five species of snappers (Lutjanidae), including Lutjanus analis, Lutjanus synagris, Lutjanus vivanus, Ocyurus chrysurus, and Romboplites saliens at five sites along the northeast (Riacho Doce, Maceió in Alagoas State, and Porto do Sauípe, Entre Rios at Bahia State) and the southeast (SE) Brazilian coast (Paraty and Rio de Janeiro cities at Rio de Janeiro State, and Bertioga, at São Paulo State.). We collected 288 snappers and interviewed 86 fishermen. The stomach contents of each fish were examined and macroscopic gonad analysis was performed. Snappers are very important for the fisheries of NE Brazil, and our results indicated that some populations, such as mutton snapper (L. analis) and lane snapper (L. synagris), are being caught when they are too young, at early juvenile stages. Local knowledge has been shown to be a powerful tool for determining appropriate policies regarding management of target species, and artisanal fishermen can be included in management processes. Other suggestions for managing the fisheries are discussed, including proposals that could provide motivation for artisanal fishermen to participate in programs to conserve resources, such as co-management approaches that utilize local knowledge, the establishment of fishing seasons, and compensation of fishermen, through 'payment for environmental services'. These suggestions may enhance the participation of local artisanal fishermen in moving to a more realistic and less top-down management approach of the fish population.  相似文献

The extent of incorporation of aspartate into dipicolinic acid and into various amino compounds was determined in Bacillus cereus at various times before, during, and near the end of synthesis of dipicolinic acid. The purpose of this study was to gain further information on the in vivo control of the biosynthesis of amino acids derived from aspartate. Control of the lysine biosynthetic pathway was of particular interest with regard to sporulation, owing to the important role of diaminopimelate and dipicolinate in the structure of the spore. As synthesis of dipicolinate was initiated, incorporation of carbon derived from aspartate was funneled preferentially into this compound as compared with others of the aspartate group. Incorporation into lysine essentially stopped just before the synthesis of dipicolinate began. This is consistent with the previously observed disappearance at this time of diaminopimelic acid decarboxylase in cell-free extracts. Synthesis of diaminopimelate continued during the time of synthesis of dipicolinate. The previous suggestion that diaminopimelate might exert negative control on one of the enzymes between dihydrodipicolinate and diaminopimelate is thus considered unlikely. The possibility is discussed that synthesis of dipicolinate is favored by an increase in the rate of synthesis of dihydrodipicolinate rather than by a block in its rate of utilization.  相似文献

Bacteriol. 91:1875-1882. 1966.-The guanine analogue, 8-azaguanine (azaG), was found to inhibit sporulation of Bacillus cereus strain T when added to proliferating cells, but not to inhibit when added after the transition to presporulation. When azaG was added to vegetative cells, the growth rate was reduced, but no immediate bactericidal effect was demonstrated. Azaguanine was shown to be incorporated solely into ribonucleic acid (RNA). All of the natural purine bases and nucleosides were found to prevent azaG inhibition by blocking incorporation of the analogue into the RNA. Addition of a subinhibitory level of C(14)-azaG to proliferating cells resulted in an increase in incorporation paralleling the increase in number of cells. At the time of transition from growth to presporulation, a rapid removal of the azaG label from the cells occurred in the absence of net RNA breakdown. If differentiation was inhibited by increasing the concentration of azaG, then no expulsion took place. Instead, at the end of growth, net incorporation ceased, and a steady-state condition was established in which incorporation equaled breakdown. No azaG degradative enzymes are present in presporulating cells. The possibility is discussed that an increase in the ratio of natural purines to azaG occurred at the time of transition, and that the natural purine derivatives then were reincorporated into RNA preferentially to azaG. The data are consistent with the hypothesis than an increased rate of RNA turnover occurs at the time of transition from vegetative growth to presporulation. Addition of phosphate buffer (pH 7.0, 0.1 m) to azaG-inhibited vegetative cells caused reversal of inhibition, the reversal being accompanied by expulsion of the azaG. At least a partial explanation of this effect is that phosphate causes a decrease in the azaG intracellular pool size.  相似文献

The importance of cytokines in disc degeneration is well recognized. Little is known about IL-22 expression in the human intervertebral disc. We investigated IL-22 immuno-localization in disc tissue, and molecular expression and production of IL-22 by annulus cells cultured in three-dimensional (3D) culture. We examined human disc tissue using immunohistochemistry and we cultured isolated annulus cells in 3D to analyze IL-22 expression and production, and its receptor, IL-22R, in conditioned media. Ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) also was used to identify significant gene expression networks within the molecular data. IL-22 and IL-22R were immunolocalized in many cells in the human outer and inner annulus; fewer cells exhibited localization in the nucleus. Three-dimensional culture of annulus cells demonstrated production of IL-22 in conditioned media; exposure to IL-1ß or TNF-α significantly reduced IL-22 levels. Significant decreases also were identified in conditioned media assayed for IL-22R in TNF-α treated cells. IPA analysis showed that IL-22 ranked among the top canonical pathways. We found constitutive expression and production of IL-22 and IL-22R in the disc, which expands our understanding of the effect of pro-inflammatory cytokines on IL-22 expression and production. Three-dimensional cultured annulus cells exposed to IL-1ß or TNF produced significantly lower levels of IL-22 into their conditioned media compared to levels produced by control cells. Our findings have clinical relevance because of the elevated pro-inflammatory milieu within the degenerating human disc.  相似文献

Abstract: A decapod crustacean faunule from the lower Miocene (upper Burdigalian, ‘Karpatian’) of the Slovakian part of the Vienna Basin comprise five new species: Callianopsis marianae (Ctenochelidae), Crosniera schweitzerae (Thomassiniidae), Agononida cerovensis and Munidopsis lieskovensis (both Galatheidae) plus Mursia harnicari (Calappidae). The new species of Callianopsis is the first undoubted member of the genus to be recorded from Europe; it is based on sexually dimorphic major and minor chelae as well as on portions of carapace and abdomen. Crosniera schweitzerae sp. nov. and Agononida cerovensis sp. nov. constitute the first fossil members of these genera. Additional material of an enigmatic crab, Styrioplax exiguus, and a re‐examination of the type material, confirms assignment of that genus to the subfamily Rhizopinae (family Pilumnidae). Palaeoecological data suggest that deposition of the levels (Lak?árska Nová Ves Formation) from which these taxa were collected took place under generally low‐energy, deep‐water conditions that were conducive to the preservation of delicate structures. Palaeobiogeographical affinities of the described taxa suggest a trans‐Atlantic migration during the early Miocene.  相似文献
