Auxin-like and gibberellin-like activity was detected in both coconut milk and malt extract. Indole-3-acetic acid was tentatively identified as being present in malt extract. The results obtained correlate well with the responses reported by researchers using coconut milk and malt extract as additives to basal nutrient media in tissue culture experiments.  相似文献

In the presence of ethylene, which enhances carnation flower senescence, carbohydrates contribute to ovary growth not only from the stem and calyx but also from the petals. With silver thiosulphate and ethanol treatments which delay flower senescence, the petals remain the active sink and ovary development is suppressed. Ethylene stimulated chloroplast development in the ovary wall. However, the calyx plus stem of all treatments showed the greater photosynthetic ability and transported a major portion of the synthesised products to the ovary.  相似文献

The recent success of Aristida junciformis Trin. and Rupr. and Eragrostis curvula Schrad. Nees in dominating South African grasslands has posed agricultural and ecological threats. With the objective of examining if the current success of the species is related to allelopathy, the present study assessed the allelopathic potential of five common perennial grassland species (Poaceae). Aqueous extracts prepared by soaking separately 2, 10, 25 and 40 g of leaf and root material in 100 mL of distilled-water for 36 h were bioassayed using a biotest species i.e. Grand Rapids lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L. cv.). Species, dilution level and plant-part had a highly significant (P < 0.001) effect on germination percentage, as well as shoot and root elongation of the biotest species. At higher concentrations, the leaf extracts of all species showed significant inhibitory activities which declined with increases in dilution level. A. junciformis, E. curvula and Megathyrsus maximus (Jacq.) BK Simon and SWL Jacobs. demonstrated the highest degree of inhibition in germination percentage and subsequent seedling length; with complete inhibition recorded at dilution levels ≥25 % w/v. At high concentration levels, root extracts of all species, except Themeda triandra Forssk. exhibited significant inhibitory effects on germination; with Hyparrhenia hirta (L.) Staph being most inhibitory. Relatively speaking, E. curvula, A. junciformis and M. maximus showed the highest degree of inhibition. These findings suggest that these three species possess strong allelopathic potential. Such an allelopathic supremacy may contribute to their dominance in natural grasslands. Further studies, however, are still required to isolate responsible phytochemicals and to better understand if allelopathic advantage is the key factor contributing to population dynamics in the field.  相似文献

The Iridaceae contains many hundreds of attractive species that have been overlooked for horticultural development. The incredible variation in flower and leaf shape, size and colour suggest this little-tapped resource could offer great opportunities for developing new commercial ornamental products. Micropropagation has increasingly become a valuable tool assisting breeders to release new species and cultivars into the market more rapidly. Here we review the progress made in Iridaceae micropropagation genus by genus, and highlight the potential for future expansion in this field.  相似文献

Slow combustion or burning of dry or green plant material from many sources produces volatile compounds that are water soluble and that stimulate the germination of many seeds with different dormancy strategies. The active principals are apparently produced around 160ndash;200 deg;C and are volatilized at higher temperatures. Once dissolved in water the active compounds also stimulate rooting, seedling growth and flowering. The positive effects of smoke have resulted in it being used as a seed pre-treatment for enhancing conservation of threatened or rare species, the horticultural exploitation of desirable plants and in the reclamation of mine spoils and disturbed land. Presently the identity of the active molecules is unknown but their remarkable effect on seed germination is, already widely utilized.  相似文献

Endogenous cytokinins, auxins, and abscisic acid (ABA) were identified and quantified in 11 red algae collected from the Brazilian coast. Field materials and two isolates cultured in the laboratory were extracted with various solvents and buffers containing a mixture of appropriate internal standards, purified by solid‐phase extraction followed by immunoaffinity chromatography, and analyzed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Isoprenoid cytokinins (free and conjugated forms of isopentenyladenine [iP], cis‐zeatin [cZ], and trans‐zeatin [tZ]) were detected in all species with concentrations of cZ and iP forms being higher than tZ forms. Dihydrozeatin (DHZ) and its metabolites were only detected at very low levels in nine of the studied species. Aromatic cytokinins (6‐benzylaminopurine [BA], ortho‐ and meta‐topolin [oT and mT]) were not detected in any of the samples. The cytokinin profile of Chondracanthus teedei (Mert. ex Roth) Kütz. was distinct in comparison to other species with para‐topolin (pT) derivatives detected in low concentrations. The main auxins present in all species were free indole‐3‐acetic acid (IAA) and indole‐3‐acetamide (IAM). Indole‐3‐ethanol (IEt), indole‐3‐acetyl glutamic acid (IAGlu), and indole‐3‐acetyl leucine (IALeu) were detected in a few species at low concentrations. ABA was present in all species analyzed except for Hypnea nigrescens Grev. ex J. Agardh. No ABA conjugates were detected in any species. These results confirm that cytokinins, auxins, and ABA were common constituents in red seaweeds, with this being the first report of the occurrence of ABA in Rhodophyta. The complexity of the hormone profiles suggests that plant hormones play a role in regulating physiological processes in Rhodophyta.  相似文献
