The variations in ventricular-atrial mitral annular position during the cardiac cycle and the simultaneous changes in left atrial silhouette area (obtained by angiography after injections of contrast material into the main pulmonary artery) were investigated in six experiments on intact dogs with chronically implanted intracardiac markers. Frame-by-frame measurements of the angiograms (120 frames/s) were used to determine, under various hemodynamic conditions, the duration, magnitude, and average rate of the mitral annular motion and of the simultaneous changes in left atrial area during atrial filling (ventricular systole) and atrial emptying (early in ventricular diastole). The mitral annulus was seen to move towards the ventricular apex during systole and towards the atrium early in diastole with the duration, average rate, and magnitude of displacement (although varying widely) showing good statistical correlations (P less than 0.0005-0.005) with the changes in projected left atrial area. These findings suggest that the duration, rate, and magnitude of atrial filling and emptying may be, in the intact heart, determined by the movements of the atrioventricular junction. 相似文献

The region of Bacillus stearothermophilus strain NCA 1503 23-S ribosomal RNA protected from T1 ribonuclease digestion by the 50-S ribosomal subunit protein L1 from Escherichia coli has been established. The sequence of 115 nucleotides is compared to the analogous region in E. coli. The similar behaviour of the RNA towards the recognition of protein L1 may be explained in terms of secondary base-pairing, even though there exists almost 40% difference between the primary nucleotide sequences. 相似文献

Isolated perfused fed rat livers spontaneously liberated glucose and orthophosphate to the medium; 24-hr fasted rat livers did not exhibit these phenomena. In perfused fed rat livers, glucagon (2 mug) increased glucose output and promoted orthophosphate incorporation. In perfused fed rat livers, insulin (250 or 500 mU) inhibited the spontaneous liberation of glucose and orthophosphate. Four strains of heterotrophic, fusiform caulobacters have been isolated from freshwater sources. A single prostheca extends from one pole of mature cells, and cells attach to various substrata by means of a holdfast located at the distal tip of the appendage. Thus, superficially these bacteria bear a strong resemblance to bacteria in the genus Caulobacter. However, unlike Caulobacter these bacteria do not exhibit a dimorphic life cycle of motile, non-stalked daughter cells and immotile, stalked mother cells. Instead both mother and daughter cells are immotile, and at the time of cell separation the daughter cells are essentially identical mirror-image replicas of the mother cell. In addition, the prosthecae of these fusiform caulobacters do not have crossbands, they are somewhat wider than the stalks of Caulobacter and the pseudostalks of Asticcacaulis, and they terminate in a bulbous tip. The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) base composition ranges from 54.6–60.1, well below the 62–67 range for the genus Caulobacter. Based upon these and other differences, a new genus and species, Prosthecobacter fusiformis, is proposed for the fusiform caulobacters. 相似文献

A previously undescribed denitrifying bacterium was isolated from soil. The cells are small gram-negative rods, asporogenous, and non-motile. Colonies become yellow after long exposure to light. This colouring is due to the production of a carotenoid pigment. The organism shows no fermenting activity, and grows only in the presence of one of the following electron acceptors: NO

, N2O, and O2. It does not reduce nitrate. It gives a positive oxidase test and has a cytochrome c and catalase. It requires no growth factors, is a chemoorganotroph and uses only sugars as carbon and energy supply. The DNA base composition is 40.8 moles percent GC. A new method making use of a radiochemical enzyme assay at the single cell level is presented to investigate metabolic cooperation, a widely studied form of cellular communication. In this case metabolic cooperation between normal human fibroblasts and fibroblasts derived from a patient deficient for the enzyme hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase has been studied.A mixture of an equal number of both cell types was cultured in close physical contact and after trypsinisation, replating and culturing the cells for several hours in a high dilution, quantitative enzyme measurements with individual cells isolated from the mixture were carried out. From the distribution curve of the enzyme activities of the individual cells the conclusion could be drawn that a macromolecule, either the enzyme itself or DNA or mRNA, coding for that enzyme, is transferred from normal to mutant cells. 相似文献
