Evaluation of defibrillation threshold is a standard of care during implantation of implantable cardioverter defibrillator. High defibrillation thresholds are often encountered and pose a challenge to electrophysiologists to improve the defibrillation threshold. We describe a case series where defibrillation thresholds were improved after implanting a defibrillation lead in the azygos vein.  相似文献

Ever since point groups of symmetry have been used to describe molecules after Van't Hoff and Le Bel proposed tetrahedral structures for carbon atoms in 1874, it remains difficult to design chiral molecules with polyhedral symmetry T, O, or I. Past theoretical and experimental studies have mainly accomplished molecular structures that have the conformations for satisfying the T symmetry. In this work, we present a general theoretical approach to construct rigid molecular structures that have permanently the symmetry of T, O, and I. This approach involves desymmetrization of the vertices or the edges of Platonic solid-shaped molecules with dissymmetric moieties. Using density functional theory (DFT) and assisted model building and energy refinement (AMBER) computational methods, the structure, the rigidity, and the symmetry of the molecule are confirmed by assessing the lowest energy conformation of the molecule, which is initially presented in a planar graph. This method successfully builds molecular structures that have the symmetry of T, O, and I. Interestingly, desymmetrization of the edges has a more stringent requirement of rigidity than desymmetrization of the vertices for affording the T, O, or I symmetry.  相似文献

Novel approaches are obligatory to treat chronic intracellular bacterial infectious diseases like Brucellosis specifically, are very complicated to deal with. The aim of the study to take upon nanotechnology approach to exploit the efficacy of the synthesized nanoparticles, to overcome barriers for treatment of Brucella species and other pathogens. Present study used Rivina humilis extract as reductant of silver ions for synthesis of silver nanoparticles for the first time. Rh-AgNP’s was characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy, DLS, FT-IR, SEM, EDS, TEM and XRD. Radical scavenging, antibrucellosis, bactericidal activity was evaluated. Clinical application was assessed by Rate of haemolysis, fibrinolytic and Hemagglutination activity. UV–visible spectrum of synthesized Rh-AgNP’s showed maximum peak at 440 nm indicating the formation of nanoparticles. TEM showed that the average particle size of nanoparticles 51 nm with spherical shape, DLS depicted monodisperse state in water; EDS confirmed the presence of silver metal. Rh-AgNP’s exhibited potential antibrucellosis activity against B. abortus, B. melitensis and B. suis effective inhibition at 800 μg/mL. The bio-compatibility of Rh-AgNP’s was established by rate of haemolysis, hemagglutination and fibrinolytic activity. For the first time it has been proved that Rh-AgNP’s have efficacy as antimicrobial agent with potential application in the biological domain.  相似文献

Leaf growth of many plant species shows rapid changes in response to alterations of the form and the level of N supply. In hydroponically-grown tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.), leaf growth was rapidly stimulated by NO(3)(-) application to NH(4)(+) precultured plants, while NH(4)(+) supply or complete N deprivation to NO(3)(-) precultured plants resulted in a rapid inhibition of leaf growth. Just 10 microM NO(3)(-) supply was sufficient to stimulate leaf growth to the same extent as 2 mM. Furthermore, continuous NO(3)(-) supply induced an oscillation of leaf growth rate with a 48 h interval. Since changes in NO(3)(-) levels in the xylem exudate and leaves did not correlate with NO(3)(-)-induced alterations of leaf growth rate, additional signals such as phytohormones may be involved. Levels of a known inhibitor of leaf growth, abscisic acid (ABA), did not consistently correspond to leaf growth rates in wild-type plants. Moreover, leaf growth of the ABA-deficient tomato mutant flacca was inhibited by NH(4)(+) without an increase in ABA concentration and was stimulated by NO(3)(-) despite its excessive ethylene production. These findings suggest that neither ABA nor ethylene are directly involved in the effects of N form on leaf growth. However, under all experimental conditions, stimulation of leaf growth by NO(3)(-) was consistently associated with increased concentration of the physiologically active forms of cytokinins, zeatin and zeatin riboside, in the xylem exudate. This indicates a major role for cytokinins as long-distance signals mediating the shoot response to NO(3)(-) perception in roots.  相似文献

We conducted a validation of the line transect technique to estimate densities of orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) nests in a Bornean swamp forest, and compared these results with density estimates based on nest counts in plots and on female home ranges. First, we examined the accuracy of the line transect method. We found that the densities based on a pass in both directions of two experienced pairs of observers was 27% below a combined sample based on transect walks by eight pairs of observers, suggesting that regular line-transect densities may seriously underestimate true densities. Second, we compared these results with those obtained by nest counts in 0.2-ha plots. This method produced an estimated 15.24 nests/ha, as compared to 10.0 and 10.9, respectively, by two experienced pairs of observers who walked a line transect in both directions. Third, we estimated orangutan densities based on female home range size and overlap and the proportion of females in the population, which produced a density of 4.25–4.5 individuals/km2 . Converting nest densities into orangutan densities, using locally estimated parameters for nest production rate and proportion of nest builders in the population, we found that density estimates based on the line transect results of the most experienced pairs on a double pass were 2.82 and 3.08 orangutans/km2, based on the combined line transect data are 4.04, and based on plot counts are 4.30. In this swamp forest, plot counts therefore give more accurate estimates than do line transects. We recommend that this new method be evaluated in other forest types as well.  相似文献

Summary UsingXenopus blastulae of stage 9, recombinates were made of the animal, ectodermal cap (zones I.II) and the vegetative, endodermal yolk mass (zone IV) (see Fig. 1). For the experiments either the entire ectodermal cap (A.B), the single outer layer (A) or the stratified inner layer (B) were used.A comparison of the quantitative composition of the recombinates and the corresponding isolates—on the basis of absolute values expressed in units of section surface area—demonstrates unequivocally that the entire mesoderm originates from the ectodermal half of the anuran egg under an inductive influence emanating from the endodermal half. This holds for recombinates of the vegetative yolk mass with the entire ectodermal cap as well as with its outer or inner layer alone.A comparison of mesoderm formation in recombinates of the entire ectodermal cap or with its outer or inner layer with the vegetative yolk mass shows that in all cases mesoderm formation is proportional to the amount of ectoderm available. In addition, the outer layer of the ectoderm is partially endodermized which may be brought in relation with the fact that in normal development an endodermal lining extends upwards from the endodermal mass, which, among other things, covers the prechordal mesoderm on the outside.The outer layer of the ectoderm has markedly lower neural competence than the inner layer, from which in normal development the bulk of the neural material arises.  相似文献
