Results of the investigation of the aquatic macroinvertebrate fauna along a 504 km stretch of the Danube River in Serbia are presented. A total of 74 macroinvertebrate taxa were observed during a 2001 survey. Oligochaeta and Mollusca were the principal components of the community with regard to species richness and abundance. Based on data on the qualitative composition of the macroinvertebrate fauna, a correspondence analysis divided the investigated stretch in three sectors — upper (Pannonian), Iron Gate sector and entrance sector to the Iron Gate stretch. The distribution patterns of certain species supported the division of sectors defined by correspondence analysis.  相似文献

The synthesis of a series of lanthanide tetracyanoplatinates containing the auxiliary ligands 1,10′-phenanthroline (phen) or 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) have been carried out by reaction of Ln3+ nitrate salts with phen or bpy and potassium tetracyanoplatinate in solvent systems containing dimethylsulfoxide and dimethylformamide. The use of these solvents has lead to the isolation of [{Ln(DMSO)2(C12H8N2)(H2O)3}2Pt(CN)4](Pt(CN)4)2·2C12H8N2·4H2O (Ln = Eu (Eu-1), Tb (Tb-1), Yb(Yb-1)), [Ln(DMF)3(C12H8N2)(H2O)2NO3]Pt(CN)4 (Ln = La (La-2), Eu (Eu-2), Tb (Tb-2)), and [Ln(DMF)3(C10H8N2)(H2O)2NO3]Pt(CN)4 (Ln = La (La-3), Sm (Sm-3), Eu (Eu-3), Tb (Tb-3)) in the form of single crystals. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction has been used to investigate their structural features. The use of DMSO versus DMF as the solvent results in markedly different structural features. Eu-1 contains [{Eu(DMSO)2(C12H8N2)(H2O)3}2Pt(CN)4]2+ complex cations where the two Eu3+ centers are linked by a trans-bridging Pt(CN)42− anion to form a dimeric lanthanide complex cation. An additional uncoordinated Pt(CN)42− anion balances charge. Eu-2 and Eu-3 consist of zero-dimensional salts with [Eu(DMF)3(C12H8N2)(H2O)2(NO3)]2+ or [Eu(DMF)3(C10H8N2)(H2O)2(NO3)]2+ complex cations, respectively, and only non-coordinated Pt(CN)42− anions. Photoluminescence measurements illustrate that the Eu3+ and Tb3+ compounds for all three structure types display enhanced emission due to intramolecular energy transfer from the coordinated cyclic amines.  相似文献

The synthesis of a number of lanthanide tetracyanometallate (TCM) compounds have been carried out by reaction of Ln3+ nitrate salts and potassium tetracyanometallates in solvent systems containing dimethylsulfoxide and water. These reactions result in the isolation of three distinct structure types: (1) monoclinic [Ln(DMSO)4(H2O)3M(CN)4](M(CN)4)0.5·2H2O (Ln = Eu, Tb and M = Pd, Pt), (2) orthorhombic {La(DMSO)3(H2O)2(NO3)M(CN)4}·H2O (M = Pd, Pt), and (3) orthorhombic {Ln(DMSO)3(H2O)(NO3)M(CN)4} (Ln = Tb and M = Pd, Pt; Ln = Er, Yb and M = Pt) in the form of single crystals. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction has been used to investigate their structural features. Structure type 1 is a zero dimensional ionic compound with a M/Ln ratio of 1.5:1. It contains coordinated as well as uncoordinated [M(CN)4]2− (M = Pd, Pt) anions and features relatively long platinophilic interactions. Structure types 2 and 3 differ quite drastically from structure type 1, but they are very similar to each other. Both of the latter are one-dimensional in nature due to chains containing linkage of Ln3+ coordination spheres with trans-bridging [M(CN)4]2− anions. These coordination polymers both have a M/Ln ratio of 1:1, a lack of platinophilic interactions, and incorporation of a bidentate NO3 for charge balance. Photoluminescence properties for select Eu3+ and Tb3+ compounds have been investigated. They show characteristic absorption and emission for the Ln3+ ions, but no significant influence of the tetracyanometallate anions.  相似文献

Dispersal knowledge is essential for conservation management, and demand is growing. But are we accumulating dispersal knowledge at a pace that can meet the demand? To answer this question we tested for changes in dispersal data collection and use over time. Our systematic review of 655 conservation-related publications compared five topics: climate change, habitat restoration, population viability analysis, land planning (systematic conservation planning) and invasive species. We analysed temporal changes in the: (i) questions asked by dispersal-related research; (ii) methods used to study dispersal; (iii) the quality of dispersal data; (iv) extent that dispersal knowledge is lacking, and; (v) likely consequences of limited dispersal knowledge. Research questions have changed little over time; the same problems examined in the 1990s are still being addressed. The most common methods used to study dispersal were occupancy data, expert opinion and modelling, which often provided indirect, low quality information about dispersal. Although use of genetics for estimating dispersal has increased, new ecological and genetic methods for measuring dispersal are not yet widely adopted. Almost half of the papers identified knowledge gaps related to dispersal. Limited dispersal knowledge often made it impossible to discover ecological processes or compromised conservation outcomes. The quality of dispersal data used in climate change research has increased since the 1990s. In comparison, restoration ecology inadequately addresses large-scale process, whilst the gap between knowledge accumulation and growth in applications may be increasing in land planning. To overcome apparent stagnation in collection and use of dispersal knowledge, researchers need to: (i) improve the quality of available data using new approaches; (ii) understand the complementarities of different methods and; (iii) define the value of different kinds of dispersal information for supporting management decisions. Ambitious, multi-disciplinary research programs studying many species are critical for advancing dispersal research.  相似文献

Introduced mammals pose serious threats to native island fauna, and understanding their distribution is fundamental to evaluating their conservation impact. Introduced sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps) are the main predator of critically endangered swift parrots (Lathamus discolor) on mainland Tasmania. We surveyed sugar glider occurrence over ~800 km2 in an important swift parrot breeding area, the Southern Forests. During 4–5 visits per site, we used call broadcast of predatory owls to elicit sugar glider alarm calls and surveyed 100 sites during February/March 2016. Naïve occupancy by sugar gliders was high (0.79), as was detectability (0.52 ± 0.03 SE), resulting in a cumulative detection probability of effectively 1. Occupancy modelling indicated a positive effect of the proportion of mature forest cover on occupancy. The best model, based on AIC scores, included the proportion of mature forest cover within a 500 m radius with constant detectability. Our study revealed surprisingly high rates of occupancy of available forest habitat throughout the heavily logged study area, such that even when mature forest cover was <10%, sugar glider occupancy was >0.5; where forest cover approached 100% (i.e. in the best quality breeding habitat for swift parrots), occupancy by sugar gliders approached 1. Our results reveal that sugar gliders are widespread across the study area which may be indicative of occupancy rates elsewhere in the breeding range of the critically endangered swift parrot. As a result, the risk of predation by sugar gliders for small birds may be widespread across logged Tasmanian forests. Additional work to identify whether population densities of sugar gliders vary with forest cover (and whether this may impact predation likelihood) is critical to understanding the conservation consequences of deforestation in the breeding range of the swift parrot.  相似文献

Refuges for threatened species are important to prevent species extinction. They provide protection from a range of environmental and biotic stressors, and ideally provide protection against all threatening processes. However, for some species it may not be clear why some areas are refuges and others are not. The forty‐spotted pardalote (Pardalotus quadragintus) is an endangered, sedentary, cryptic and specialised bird endemic to the island of Tasmania, Australia. Having undergone an extreme range contraction over the past century the species is now mostly confined to a few small offshore island refuges. Key threatening processes to the species include habitat loss, wildfire, competition and predation. The ways in which these processes have molded the species’ contemporary range have not been clearly evaluated. Furthermore, the security of the remnant population within refuges is uncertain. To overcome this uncertainty we assessed key threats and established the population status in known refuges by developing a robust survey protocol within an occupancy modelling framework. We discuss our results in the context of planning trial reintroductions of this endangered species in suitable habitat across its former range. We found very high occupancy rates (0.75–0.96) at two refuges and in suitable conditions, the species was highly detectable (p, 0.43–0.77). At a third location our surveys indicated a local extinction, likely due to recent wildfire. We demonstrate that all refuges are at high risk of one or more threatening processes and the current distribution across island refuges is unlikely to secure the species from extinction. We identified large areas of potential habitat across the species’ former mainland range, but these are likely too distant from source populations for natural recolonisation. We propose that establishing new populations of forty‐spotted pardalotes via reintroduction is essential to secure the species and that this is best achieved while robust source populations still exist.  相似文献

Cholestatic encephalopathy results from accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin and hydrophobic bile acids in the brain. The aim of this study was to determine disturbances of polyamine metabolism in the brains of rats with experimental extrahepatic cholestasis and the effects of l-arginine administration. Wister rats were divided into groups: I: sham-operated, II: rats treated with l-arginine, III: animals with bile-duct ligation (BDL), and IV: cholestatic-BDL rats treated with l-arginine. Increased plasma γ-glutamyltransferase and alkaline phosphatase activity and increased bile-acids and bilirubin levels in BDL rats were reduced by administration of l-arginine (P < 0.001). Cholestasis increased the brain’s putrescine (P < 0.001) and decreased spermidine and spermine concentration (P < 0.05). The activity of polyamine oxidase was increased (P < 0.001) and diamine oxidase was decreased (P < 0.001) in the brains of BDL rats. Cholestasis increased the activity of arginase (P < 0.05) and decreased the level of citrulline (P < 0.001). Administration of l-arginine in BDL rats prevents metabolic disorders of polyamines and establishs a neuroprotective role in the brain during cholestasis.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by inadequate secretion of insulin. Polyamine oxidase (PAO), a FAD-containing enzyme is involved in the biodegradation of Sp and Spd, catalyzing the oxidative deamination of Sp and Spd, resulting in production of amonia (NH3), corresponding amino aldehydes and H2O2. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and acrolein (CH2=CHCHO), potentially toxic agents, which induce oxidative stress in mammalian cells, are then spontaneously formed from aminoaldehydes. The main signs of oxidative stress in diabetic children were the values of HbA1c and MDA levels. Polyamines have an insulin-like action. Antiglycation property of spermine and spermidine has been recently confirmed. There are no data in the literature about plasma polyamine oxidase (PAO) activities in children with type 1 diabetes. The idea of this study was to evaluate the polyamine metabolism through the estimation of polyamine oxidase activity. We have study children with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus (n = 35, age group of 5–16 years, as well as age-matched healthy control subjects (n = 25). The biochemical investigations were done on diabetic children who have the pathological values of glucose (9.11–17.33 mmol/l) and glycosylated Hb (7.57–14.49% HbA1c). The children in the control group have referent values of glucose and glycated hemoglobin (4.11-5.84 mmol/L and HbA1c 4.22-6.81% of the total Hb. Glucose levels in blood plasma and glycosylated hemoglobin in erythrocythes hemolysates (HbA1c) were measured by using standard laboratory methods. PAO activity in venous blood plasma and the amount of malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured by the spectrophotometric methods. PAO activity, glycemia, HbA1c and MDA were significantly increased in diabetic children compared to the control subjects. PAO activity in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus was very high. The findings of higher blood HbA1C and MDA levels confirm the presence of oxidant stress in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and demonstrate that PAO activity may participate in these circumstances.  相似文献
