We describe intergradations between the arthropod repichnial trace fossils Diplichnites gouldi (Gevers et al., 1971), Dendroidichnites Demathieu et al., 1992, and Monomorphichnus Crimes, 1970 with two distinct cubichnial traces, Gluckstadtella cooperi Savage, 1971 and Huilmuichnus santracruzensis new ichnogenus and ichnospecies. These compound ichnofossils are part of high ichnodiversity arthropod-dominated trace fossil associations from the Late Carboniferous Agua Escondida Formation of the San Rafael Basin (Argentina). The complex ichnotaxonomy of Diplichnites and the ichnospecies D. gouldi are discussed and some possible working solutions are proposed. The most likely producer of the compound trace fossils are the Pygocephalomorpha, a group of Late Paleozoic crustaceans that are recorded in nearby basins from Uruguay and Brazil. The compound trace fossils are used to infer a number of complex behaviors of pygocephalomorphs in a subaqueous setting, including caridoid (tail flip) or more primitive escape reactions, landing followed by resting and transient resting during normal walking. In addition, different gaits can be inferred from well-preserved D. gouldi, which can be correlated with contrasting trackway morphology.  相似文献

Parodon and Apareiodon lack sufficiently consistent morphological traits to be considered a monophyletic group in Parodontidae. Species within this family are either sex-homomorphic or sex-heteromorphic (i.e., lacking a differentiated sex chromosome system, ZZ/ZW or ZZ/ZW(1)W(2)). In this study, a DNA fragment from the heterochromatin segment of the W chromosome of Apareiodon ibitiensis (named WAp) was microdissected and used for in situ mapping of nine Parodontidae species. The species were also characterized using a satellite DNA probe (pPh2004). The species were phylogenetically clustered according to 17 characters, which were examined by both classical and molecular cytogenetic techniques. Given the present results, the single ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system seems to have been derived from a paracentric inversion of a terminal WAp site onto the proximal regions of the short arms of a metacentric chromosome pair, followed by WAp site amplification. We reason that these events restrained recombination and favored differentiation of the W chromosome in some species. Moreover, co-hybridization experiments targeting the WAp and pPh2004 repetitive DNA sites of A. affinis suggest that the ZZ/ZW(1)W(2) sex chromosomes of this species may have arisen from a translocation between the proto-sex chromosome and an autosome. Our phylogenetic analysis corroborates the hypothesis of sex chromosome differentiation and establishes groups of closely related species. The phylogenetic reorganization in response to these new data supports the presence of internal monophyletic groups within Parodontidae.  相似文献

We describe a novel XY body protein of rat and mice pachytene spermatocytes called XY77. Biochemical characterization showed that protein XY77 (Mr 77,000; pH value 8.3) is present in meiotic but absent in postmeiotic stages of spermatogenesis. With the aid of an antibody against protein XY77 together with another specific for XY body-associated protein XY40 we also investigated the localization of these proteins in mice carrying Searle’s translocation, a reciprocal X-autosomal translocation. We show here that in these mice the distribution of both XY77 and XY40 is abnormal. Our results indicate that in Searle’s translocation alterations are not restricted to the translocated autosome, but also involve chromatin segments corresponding originally to the sex chromosomes X and Y. Margins of water reservoirs associated with dams can have high‐frequency tides, promoting soil erosion and nutrient leaching. We propose the use of biocrusts for restoration and ecological engineering purposes, due to their poikilohydric character, to stabilize reservoir margins. We promoted biocrust growth under controlled conditions, testing two types of substrate: native sand and organic substrate. After 2 months, biocrusts grew on organic substrate covering almost all the area, but not on native sand. This fast and easy nature‐based solution for soil stabilization can be used as an environmental engineering tool in highly degraded sites.  相似文献

In biological processes, the balance between positive and negative inputs is critical for an effective physiological response and to prevent disease. A case in point is the germinal center (GC) reaction, wherein high mutational and proliferation rates are accompanied by an obligatory suppression of the DNA repair machinery. Understandably, when the GC reaction goes awry, loss of immune cells or lymphoid cancer ensues. Here, we detail the functional interactions that make microRNA 155 (miR-155) a key part of this process. Upon antigen exposure, miR-155−/− mature B cells displayed significantly higher double-strand DNA break (DSB) accumulation and p53 activation than their miR-155+/+ counterparts. Using B cell-specific knockdown strategies, we confirmed the role of the miR-155 target Aicda (activation-induced cytidine deaminase) in this process and, in combination with a gain-of-function model, unveiled a previously unappreciated role for Socs1 in directly modulating p53 activity and the DNA damage response in B lymphocytes. Thus, miR-155 controls the outcome of the GC reaction by modulating its initiation (Aicda) and termination (Socs1/p53 response), suggesting a mechanism to explain the quantitative defect in germinal center B cells found in mice lacking or overexpressing this miRNA.  相似文献

In the present research we studied the photosynthetic traits and protective mechanisms against oxidative stress in two maize ( Zea mays L.) genotypes differing in chilling sensitivity (Z7, tolerant and Penjalinan, sensitive) subjected to 5°C for 5 days, with or without pretreatment by drought. The drought pretreatment decreased the symptoms of chilling injury in Penjalinan plants estimated as necrotic leaf area and maximum quantum yield of photosystem II. Furthermore, drought pretreatment diminished the level of lipid peroxidation caused by chilling in Penjalinan plants. After one day of recovery from chilling the Z7 and drought-pretreated Penjalinan plants showed higher net photosynthesis rates than the non-drought-pretreated Penjalinan plants, thereby decreasing the probability of generating reactive oxygen species. The greater net photosynthesis was correlated with the greater NADP-malate dehydrogenase activity. No differences in either the de-epoxidation state of the xanthophyll cycle or the antioxidant enzyme activities were found among the chilled groups of plants. However, a drastic decrease in ascorbate content was observed in chilled Penjalinan plants without drought pretreatment. As we found an increase of H2O2 content after drought pretreatment, we suggest its involvement as a signal in the drought-enhanced chilling tolerance of maize.  相似文献
