 Analyses of ITS sequences for 49 species of Olearia, including representatives from all currently recognised intergeneric sections, and 43 species from 23 other genera of Astereae, rooted on eight sequences from Anthemideae, provide no support for the monophyly of this large and morphologically diverse Australasian genus. Eighteen separate lineages of Olearia are recognised, including seven robust groups. Three of these groups and another eight species are placed within a primary clade incorporating representatives of Achnophora, Aster, Brachyscome, Calotis, Camptacra, Erigeron, Felicia, Grangea, Kippistia, Lagenifera, Minuria, Oritrophium, Peripleura, Podocoma, Remya, Solidago, Tetramolopium and Vittadinia. The remaining four groups and three individual species lie within a sister clade that also includes Celmisia, Chiliotrichum, Damnamenia, Pleurophyllum and Pachystegia. Relationships within each primary clade are poorly resolved. There is some congruence between this molecular estimate of the phylogeny and the distribution of types of abaxial leaf-hair, which is the basis of the present sectional classification of Olearia, but all states appear to have arisen more than once within the tribe. It is concluded that those species placed within the second primary clade should be removed from the genus, but the extent to which species placed within the first primary clade constitute a monophyletic group can only be resolved with further sequence data. Polycomb group (PcG) genes of Drosophila are negative regulators of homeotic gene expression required for maintenance of determination. Sequence similarity between Polycomb and Su(var)205 led to the suggestion that PcG genes and modifiers of position-effect variegation (PEV) might function analogously in the establishment of chromatin structure. If PcG proteins participate directly in the same process that leads to PEV, PcG mutations should suppress PEV. We show that mutations in E(Pc), an unusual member of the PcG, suppress PEV of four variegating rearrangements: In(l)wm4, B(SV), T(2;3)Sb(V) and In(2R)bw(VDe2). Using reversion of a Pelement insertion, deficiency mapping, and recombination mapping as criteria, homeotic effects and suppression of PEV associated with E(Pc) co-map. Asx is an enhancer of PEV, whereas nine other PcG loci do not affect PEV. These results support the conclusion that there are fewer similarities between PcG genes and modifiers of PEV than previously supposed. However, E(Pc) appears to be an important link between the two groups. We discuss why Asx might act as an enhancer of PEV.  相似文献

We studied the influence of entomopathogenic nematodes , Steinernema carpocapsae and S. riobravis, on natural populations of plant - parasitic nematodes (PPNs) infesting turfgrass in Georgia and South Carolina . S. riobravis applied at 6 109 infective juveniles (IJs) / acre provided up to 95 - 100% control of the root - knot , Meloidogyne sp ., sting , Belonolaimus longicaudatus, and ring nematode , Criconemella sp ., in Georgia , but S. carpocapsae had no effect . S. riobravis was as effective as the chemical nematicide , Fenamiphos (Nemacur 10G) at 4 weeks after treatment and more effective at 8 weeks after treatment . In South Carolina , both S. riobravis and S. carpocapsae applied at 1 109 IJs / acre provided up to 86 - 100 % control of the root - knot , sting and ring nematodes . Application of 6 109 IJs / acre increased control by only 4 - 14 % over the 1 109 dosage . Possible causes of differences in efficacy of S. carpocapsae at the two sites are discussed . It is concluded that S. riobravis may provide effective , predictable and economical control of PPNs in turfgrass .  相似文献

By preparing a new experimental model for the carpal tunnel syndrome, the authors evaluated the differences of the human and rabbit carpal tunnels using a comparative anatomical study. A nearly identical situation-regarding the osseous and connective tissue formations in the carpal channel--was found. Therefore, the carpal tunnel of the rabbit is recommended for a model of chronic nerve compression, which is now planned by the authors.  相似文献

Fine needle aspirates and touch imprints of 36 hyperplastic (reactive) lymph nodes were tested for the presence of keratin and desmin. Keratin-positive cells with morphologic characteristics corresponding to extrafollicular (fibroblastic) reticulum cells were found in 18% of the fine needle aspirates and 42% of the touch imprints. The number of keratin-positive reticulum cells varied from 1 to greater than 30 per slide. Desmin-positive cells with similar morphology were found in 23% of fine needle aspirates and 37% of touch imprints, and the number of such cells per slide ranged from 2 to greater than 70. The relatively frequent occurrence of keratin-positive reticulum cells in these preparations from hyperplastic lymph nodes should be taken into account if keratin antibodies are used to search for carcinoma micrometastases.  相似文献

A Macintosh Hypertalk program (Hypercard ‘stack’)for use in phylogenetic comparative analysis of RNA structureis described. The program identifies covariations and compensatorychanges in RNA sequence alignments, for use in the constructionof secondary structure models or the identification of tertiaryinteractions.
